I have a 1989 KitchenAid mixer (made with Hobart specs), and the attachments are very durable, with a nylon coating that does not chip. They should never have changed them to the type you have, but I've read they're using a better coating now. However, I would get the stainless steel attachments, which I feel they should just simply ship with all KA mixers. I have a Kenwood Chef Titanium, too, and it has the stainless steel tools, which are terrific. Did you end up getting a new mixer?
Hi, I agree. I contacted KA and they said it was fine to eat the stuff which flakes off! Law suit incoming….🤣 I bought a new stainless dough hook, just need to save up for the stainless beater. They cost around £50 each, so one for the Christmas list!
@@Himoutdoors KitchenAid should stop using that cheap coating and start shipping all machines with stainless steel dough hook, beater & whisk. Either that or go back to the nylon coating that the old machines had, but I would prefer stainless steel. This new coating is just a gimmick. They know it will flake off and that it means people have to buy new ones. More $$$$ for KA.
Hi, no I still have the same one. Plenty of life in the old girl yet. Stainless steel is the way to go, and it should be a standard offering, I agree but they want to penny pinch to make sales…..
It helps to stop the flour turning into a cloud when you add it with the mixer on. I’m not sure about splashing, I think it’s about containing fine particles or either flour or icing sugar….
I do not think much of the KitchenAid as I feel they are made in china not many made in USA as they are far too expensive plus comparing to Kenwood they do not have the power of a Kenwood even the new sunbeam is great as well but now they are all made in china / where my last Kenwood went for 30 years doubt the new ones will be as good 😀
My kitchenaid says Made in USA. It’s a 5KSM150. St Joseph, Michigan, USA. Kenwood are good, I agree. Not much between them, I guess it depends on what you like the look of. If I were to buy again I’d get one with a fixed head where you lift the bowl up to the head. Tilt head mixers get wobbly too quickly and need adjusting too often IMO. Also stainless steel mixer parts, of course! 🤓
@@Himoutdoors Made in USA or assembled? My artisan says assembled in USA, but I got it from Walmart (in 2022) and I know some manufacturers make a different version of their product exclusively for Walmart, usually to get the price a lower. Also, I looked on KitchenAid's website and from what I could see they don't ship the stainless attachments with any of their mixers anymore other than the $999± USD NSF rated commercial bowl lift mixers. Even the ones featuring the "deluxe" attachment kit are grey coated, you just get more attachments. You can order a 3 piece stainless set that replaces the coated set that came with your mixer for $99 USD, or you can get them individually for about $35 USD each. I guess they went with a grey coating so the chipped areas blend better with bare aluminum underneath? For what they charge for their mixers plus the fact they present themselves as the premier brand of mixers, you would think that they'd ship stainless steel attachments with all their mixers. EDIT: I was mistaken about mixers shipping with stainless attachments. Just found a 4.5qt. tilt head on amazon that comes with stainless so I'm sure there are probably others available. I still think stainless should standard equipment though.
Just bought artisan lift bowl and has polished and high quality stainless steel attachments

Alternatively I could powder coat it…

@@sashineb.2114 My thoughts exactly! Making things that break down quicker is on purpose.
