In retrospect, that’s how I looked at it, but not at the time. Lol I think it was Lars who said that if they hadn’t done Load/Reload, they wouldn’t have been able to do what they did afterward. I rarely listen to those two albums, but it’s cool they did them. It was a bold move, because they could have easily kept doing the same thing over and over, but they would probably sink into obscurity, eventually.
@@scorpionking4012 definitely. Devil’s Dance is probably my favorite on Reload and Bleeding Me on Load. I’m not wild about James’s vocals on these albums, but I think Bleeding Me is my favorite vocal performance of any of their songs.
I cannot still comprehend how people still to this day, couldn't understand this. They wanted to play with Lou, be his band, because they have a connection with him otherside of music, as a human. Not everything is music in this life.
James' vocals on Reload are adventurous, high, and often nasally and exaggerated. They were hard to stomach at first, but I grew to love them. Some background on the recording of Reload, since it can be confusing. The music itself was all done around 95/96 with the recording of Load. However, during a break in touring a year later in 97 finishing touches were put on the songs as well as vocals being laid down. So that's why James sounds different vocal wise from Load to Reload. I always wondered what the 6 best songs from Load & the 6 best songs from ReLoad to make one coherent 12 song album would sound like, and which type of production would you record this album in? The mix of Load or ReLoad? Great video gents - your getting much better at this type of vid now.
I think a mix between the two records with the best songs and it is better than the black album. I know it's an unpopular opinion but imagine hero of the day, until it sleeps, bleeding me, the outlaw torn, fixxxer, devil's dance, fuel, the unforgiven 2, the memory remains together... it would have been an AWESOME album.
1: Fuel 2 King Nothing 3 Ain't My Bitch 4: Hero of the Day 5: Fixxxer 6: 2 x 4 7: Outlaw Torn 8: Bleeding Me 9: Wasting my Hate 10: Devil's Dance 11: Where the Wild Things Are 12: Prince Charming
Was waiting for this, hell yeah! Unforgiven II will always have a special place in my memory. I love how there are little references to the first one, like the hidden riff from pt. 1 toward the end and the "never be, never me" in the last choruses
You were saying you have imposter syndrome and I totally understand that feeling! As a TH-camr myself I definitely feel that But believe me, you are definitely one of my favorite reactors on TH-cam right now, anything you do I love watching, I have especially loved all these Metallica vids! Keep it up!
Hey from Scotland! Really love what you guys are doing. Totally different from the usual reaction videos that have been doing the rounds on TH-cam for the past number of years. As a self-confessed Metallica obsessive, it’s great to think about their music from a different perspective, thank you. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻 as for post-2000 bands, Trivium. Awesome band!
@@philsmith2842 OHO! You sir are right! i LOVE Volbeat (I have all of their albums on CD) and Seal the Deal and Let's Boogie is my favorite! I love the title track, but I also really like Battleship Chains (gets stuck in my head whenever I listen to that album) and Marie Levau!
1:32:56 No, Chris, not Drop-D, just D/Db-standard. Metallica had never used a Drop tuning prior to -Human on the S&M album (and then used Drop-C, etc. extensively on St. Anger). It is a common fallacy that they used Drop-D on The Thing That Should Not Be, but that is easily disproven by watching live video from '86 of them playing the song, as well as more modern live performances of the song as well. Patrick was reading the information 100% correctly.
I’d love to hear you react to the first few Danzig albums; those are immaculately produced in my opinion, and the songs are all so hard-hitting and well-structured.
2:36:00 The problem with Low Man's Lyric is that it was produced, period. There are videos of this played acoustic (in Korea, I think) with James just sitting in a chair with a guitar and a hoodie and it's much, MUCH better since it's really a personal, emotional song. A lot of that sort of music falls apart as it passes through multiple hands and multiple pieces of equipment (which sounds like a ridiculous thing to say, but a heartbreaking song played live in front of you carries *so* much more with it, right?) As far as the production on it's face, I'm not sure they actually knew what to do with it mechanically. Topically... it's about homelessness sure, but because of heavy drug addiction. The voice of the song has had no success breaking addiction and is writing his last words to his family and sending notes to God before, in my opinion, taking a hot shot and just fading out to nothingness.... the slurred last lyrics getting softer and eventually to a hum, and the symbolism of the drone note from the hurdy gurdy continuing as if it were a flatlined ECG.
Makes me think of "bloody hammer" by Rocky Erickson. The full band studio version isn't bad, but the acoustic version is so much better, and it captures the weird dark content of the lyrics way better as well
All songs were written and mostly recorded together. However, the first set of songs that were considered done went on Load in August '96 and the rest were fine tuned and completed and released in '97 so it has the exact same production/mix and is great in that regard.
To me, the songs that were nearly done were the more interesting / better ones, hence why Load has more groove and more varied songs like Hero and Sleeps, and why Reload is mostly samey (or coherent, maybe) and not as good.
There s a footage of 1995 where you see them still with long hair 😉, where they recorded the basic tracks in 1995 from both, but did completed in 1996 for reload
The hi-hat coming in on Prince Charming sounds weird because the riff doesn't start on 1, but on 4-and. You can't really tell that in advance though as it begins with guitar only
LuLu is not Metallica's album, it just features Metallica instrumentals that Lou Reed asked them for as a feature on the album. But it is not a Metallica album. Can't stand people saying it is.
My favourite parts is when present chris doesn’t agree with something someone says but instead of saying it he just opens his eyes really wide for the camera and scoffs
1. Ain’t my B**ch 2. Memory Remains 3. Waste my Hate 4. Until it Sleeps 5. King Nothing 6. Bleeding Me 7. Carpe Diem 8. Thorn Within 9. Where the Wild things Are 10. Outlaw Torn 11. Fixxxer Perfect Load album 💿 Keep same logo and only Lars cut his hair, boom then we wouldn’t have been so mad lol
Although Im not sure Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer should be one after the other. Maybe put Where the Wild Things Are and then throw Mama Said in there as well, and finish the album with Fixxxer after those two songs.
These Metallica reaction videos are the most entertaining things I’ve seen in ages. 😂 I honestly don’t think they’ve ever made a bad album. This is a cracker of an album. They broke out Carpe Diem Baby out of nowhere years ago on tour.
Bro Patrick you’re killing me with the Lars / Kirk makeup 😂 everytime I look at you with the necklace and reload colored shirt, I die laughing 😂 awesome video guys
1:15 omg what an anomaly who would’ve thought that there was someone like that 55:30 thats a funny statement too especially when the bulk of their catalog during the 80s was influenced by nwobhm and other metal acts that weren’t priest or maiden. James was listening to the venom song buried alive when he got the idea for the intro to one. All the cool harmony stuff that cliff had a hand in on orion was from what kirk said in a interview influenced by thin lizzy, cliff said to kirk thats where he gets his stuff
To answer Present Chris’s question, yes that is a B-bender in Unforgiven II. It was also used on My Friend of Misery on the black album. Great video again, Patrick!!
I read that when James writes lyrics he does the dahh dada dahh type stuff that Maryann was singing until he adds words and that originally she was going to have lyrics to sing but they ended up just liking her singing the da da dahh stuff instead
Where The Wild Things Are is one of Hetfield's masterpieces. Patrick and Chris can't help but feel it at 1:59:56. These videos are great guys! Keep it up
Sorry bro, but this song is Jason Newsted's masterpiece! That is why it's so unique and so much different from the rest of the songs on Reload. One of the very rare occasions when Jason was given the chance to show his songwriting skills to the world.
I think the next goal is to get music album reactions that’ll fit in the Metallica algorithm. Love the format. Also, remote Chris has to be on every album show.
That was interesting. I am unfamiliar with Reload and Hardwired. They were just albums that passed me by but I listened along with you to Reload… and it was ok. It probably would’ve made an incredible double album. I look forward to your Hardwired listen.
3:11:32 I have an original run version of Death Magnetic and it was indeed a digipack style. The lyric book was actually glued in to the front cover and it was actually cut out all the way through the booklet to make the grave 3D.
I think you should absolutely listen to Garage Inc. Being a double album, the first disc was recorded during and/or after ReLoad. The second disc has recordings from throughout their career going back to like 1984, so you get a chance to hear their production over their whole career in essentially two hours. Also, saying you don’t know the bands they’re covering is a cop out. It’s not like you knew these songs until you listened to them either.
@@PatrickMusilek They hail from Australia and have become a huge headline act across Europe, they celebrate 20 years this year. Certainly worth looking at on the channel one day!
Interesting suggestion! I dont know much about them at all but I think I liked one of their songs back in high school. Ill definitely add them to the list!
To you inquiry about ‘Better than You’…I remember reading years ago that the song structure, particularly the ending, is meant to be a live feel as if they were in concert with a teaser on how and when the song would end.
When you asked what band influenced Metallica in the Load/Reload era, I would say Corrosion of Conformity. It seems like they were trying to go for that southern sludge sound that CoC was doing at the time. They even took CoC out on tour with them on the Load tour.
Just for the record, You missed a : in your timestamp for 0027:59 Fuel Discussion so it's messed the timestamp up a little. I love this album, so many good memories from this album and it's cool to hear a sound engineers perspective on it.
Long comment, but yo this is a 3 hour video - gimme a break. I may have some of these details mixed up, but somewhere there's a story about the recording of "the Loads" that said most of the drums for all of the songs were done by the release of the 1st album, whereas a lot of the guitars and vocals on ReLoad were completely new or redone from the original takes. It kind of shows. James found a cleaner and more adventurous vocal style throughout the Load tour, and that's much more present on ReLoad than its predecessor. A comedian friend of James' suggested that the Marianne Faithful vocals on Memory Remains were mostly a Lars idea that they just ran with. Regardless of her vocal style being offputting at first, that song was huge on rock radio and MTV. It's probably their biggest evergreen on this album, often showing up live with a really cool moment where the audience takes over singing at the end. Unforgiven was in contention for S&M but they ended up passing on it. Unforgiven II, despite being a big single, is actually very rare live. They debuted it on an awards show soon after the single was released and it didn't go over so well, and they ended up never playing it again until 2014. It has since got back into obscurity. I love them bringing back musical leitmotifs from the original - that's such a cool idea. Better Than You, amusingly, won a Grammy for best hard rock or metal song in 99 despite most of the fanbase being puzzled that it was ever nominated at all. Lars himself has poked fun of that. There was a hilarious outtake CD from the Load sessions they released to their fan club members, and in the midst of it you can hear them working on that one live with the full band. The different sound of the final song *could be* because a lot of it came from those loose live sessions without much additional work. You were right about Carpe Diem Baby's solo being James on the album. That song has long been one of the fan favorites from this one. It wasn't played live until 2011 for the 30th anniversary shows, but they kept it in the set for a while afterwards. The Bad Seed cough is undoubtedly a nod to Sweet Leaf from Black Sabbath. Wild Things - I love it in general. It's there where I'm most struck by their dedication to throwing expectations by the wayside. It has the most "metal" riff on the album by far, yet the vocals are completely clean and subdued rather than aggressive barking. Have never been bothered by anything in Prince Charming vocally. Not really sure what the immediate distaste for anything that isn't a big sung melody is all about, but different strokes and all. The chorus on that one actually sounds the most like his idyllic trademark style in my opinion. Low Man's - I think it's great, just too long. The demo was a *little* more traditional with some distorted guitars and lead work leaking in, but again I respect that they went for something unique. Disagree that voice cracks here and there equate to being something that *should* be redone - human moments like that add so much character. Overly corrected modern stuff has too little of that. Fixxxer has long been a fan favorite, though I have a few issues with it. That's one where to me the differing James/Kirk tracks are a disservice - one big riff played the same on both sides would be less messy sounding there IMO. Then there's a big build up to the solo only for there not to be much to it. I also could do without the long loose jam section. It crescendos so nicely into the final chorus though, and the climax the song ultimately reaches is pretty strong. James struggled with that chorus the one time they played it live recently and made a little snarky remark about everyone knowing why they'd never played it before now, so I'd be surprised if they ever try it again. Overall I like Load more, but ReLoad has some high points for sure - the 1st four tracks, Carpe Diem, Wild Things, and Fixxxer. Bad Seed easily could have been a hit single. A few songs like Slither meander a bit and seem to suffer from having been left half-done before they got into touring on Load. There was a time when I'd say this was one of my least favorite Metallica albums, but at this point I just embrace it for what it is and enjoy it overall.
Another great review and reaction from you guys! ReLoad is definitely the heavier of the two albums. There are quite a bit of clean moments on Load whereas ReLoad is mostly heavier! Another big difference on ReLoad, as you guys mentioned is that James chose to sing with a more nasally vocal approach. Many people don't care for it BUT I love it! James is always trying something new each album! Fun fact: Better Than You won a Grammy 🤣🤣 I'd love for you guys to do a 6 hour video where you compare all the songs on Garage Inc. that Metallica covered with the originals! Also, before the Load albums, all rhythm and harmony guitars were done by James. When they started Load & ReLoad, James took a week off and came in only to find that Kirk had recorded a bunch of rhythm tracks and decided to keep them because they were loose. E Flat tuning was also Kirk's idea and James jumped on board because he could sing one step lower!
I realize you probably know this already, but Rob Zombie’s first album came out in ‘98, which is after this album. So, if anything Zombie sounds like ‘90s era Metallica, which makes sense because of how big Metallica was in the ‘90s.
I found you guys simply because I’m a diehard Metallica fan since the age of 12 and I’ll be 42 next month. I’ve seen them live 25 times and have tickets to see them twice this summer and twice next summer. With that being said, I love watching you guys critique their albums. Can you please review the entire catalog of one of my all time favorite bands… TYPE O NEGATIVE…. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 3:11:55 - "You know, it's only a Digi-pack if it comes from the "Digi" region of france" did you guys get the refference?? If not read my own response below:
Champagne is a drink that was originated on the region of the same name in France, and they have been suying every company that sells products labeled "Champagne" if it's not from a company based in Champagne. What is silly but is also kind of legit. Otherwise it's just a sparkling wine.
I have absolutely loved these album reactions. Metallica was the band that got me to want to play guitar. Looking forward to all the remaining Metallica content. Just as a suggestion, i would love to see you guys do album reactions for all of Trivium's albums. They are my 2nd fave band and each album is different from the last and would make for very entertaining reactions.
You are correct! Unforgiven was played with a B Bender Fender. You can see James play it in the Live debut of the song at The Billboard Awards in 1997.
a very good classic thrash metal band that came out in the 2000's is havok they are an amazing band and they sound incredile and straight from the 80's.
Tons of bands I like that started after 2000: MGMT, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Everything Everything, Thundercat, Grizzly Bear, Car Seat Headrest, Hand Habits, Parquet Courts. So, yeah, you are absolutely right many Metallica listeners aren't necessarily metal fans. Metallica stands out because James is a great songwriter.
Realistically I don't have the time to sit for three hours to watch you guys react fully which is a shame, however I've watched a good bit and I love the way you guys do things. I'm giving the same synopsis I did with your Load video. I don't give a fuck, this is Metallica at their peak for me. I can listen to Puppets or Justice for sure, however Load and Reload keep me coming back time and time again. Lyrically & Sonically top notch, Low Man's Lyric is easily their top ballad for me. That emotional journey is excellent. People talk about James's voice in the late 80s however songs like 'Where The Wild Things Are' & 'Fixxxer' are perfect examples of his true ability, they are my personal favourite in terms of his vocal performance across the discography. Carpe Diem and & Prince Charming are grooving as fuck, love the guitar tone, again great lyrics too. I don't mind the pentatonic overload, it works in the albums situation for me, differently some of Kirk's more memorable solos. Overall I do take ReLoad over Load, just feels more alive to me in a sense. I'm only 15 however I've been listening to Metallica since I can remember. If you want something truly unforgettable, listen to anything by Steven Wilson. His project 'Porcupine Tree' is in my opinion the best music out there, versatility is the only word.
Great reactions. I'm a huge metallica fan and load and reload came outb when i was in my 20s and it was such a great time. I dont listen to many newer rock bands. But one of my favorites which have come post 2000 is Ghost. And Metallica are fans of Ghost as well.
@PatrickMusilek I think you'll like them. They are a very unique band and have a following like Metallica. They also have fans that are split on them as their more recent albums are more mainstream, kinda like what Metallica did. I guarantee you will find something to love about Ghost!! Oh and I'm actually first time watcher of this channel and I've watched the load, reload and 72 seasons reactions. Very cool!!
Post 2000 band I like: Babymetal. Avenged Sevenfold didn't drop an album till 2001 but they officially formed in 1999. Also Coheed and Cambria formed in 1995 but their first official album release was in 2002
Coheed and Cambria might be interesting to check out. Remember A Flavorhouse Atlantic and one other song of theirs that was huge when I was in high school. I have heard people refer to at least one of their albums as a "Masterpiece" and that always intrigues me!
How y’all are just sitting there while fuel should be ripping your faces off blows my mind. Get your face off already! That shjt is AWESOME! First concert I ever went to was this tour in 98 at Smirnoff Starplex in Dallas. Later saw them 8 more times for much better shows but this one will always be my first. Man good times. My mom died this year. Her favorite song was Low Man’s Lyric. We used to listen to them every day while driving when I was a preteen. So thankful for their music and the fun I have with my kids and it now. And they’re still going as strong as ever. 72 is some of their best, no lie. Inamorata is maybe my favorite of all time. It is absolute perfection. Crown and shadows and too far gone are great as well. Love these guys. But anyway, GET YOUR FACES OFF AND MOVE! I can’t sit still hearing this. Got to drum and air riff and exaggerate the vocal punches. Ooooh yeah-heah!
1:36:00 a drummers perspective on the tom comments for this album. Lars, like many 80's drummers, was using power toms from Ride The Lightning up to the Black Album. during the Load/Reload sessions, TAMA sent him their Starclassic Maple kit which was released in 1995 and saw the return of shallower drum depths as was popular in the 70's. the tom sizes on this album would've probably been 10" - 12" - 16" - 18" // vs. his sizes on the Black Album which went 10" - 12" - 14" - 16" - 18" - 18" (and the two Lars tends to favor are the rack toms directly in front of his snare 12" and 14") so we're hearing a MASSIVE size difference already as is in terms of the circumference, but now you gotta factor in that we're hearing shallower toms as well. this coming from the dude who had a 16" RACK TOM on his far right - which is standard floor tom size now haha
Patrick, I am so glad to see someone else that hears the, in my opinion, *VERY* apt comparison between Reload and 72 Seasons. Metallica is my favorite band, but a few days after the album came out, I even tweeted: "Really loving the new Metallica album - and the fact that they finally released a follow-up to 1997's hard-hitting Reload album!" LOL P.S. - I said that with all the love in the world, as I love both Load and Reload, as well as the older thrash-ier stuff.
@@Huddle_House56honestly between the two of them i feel like load has material thats “darker” if that makes sense, i know all that stuff was written and recorded around the same time but I personally think that both of them are two different animals in a way even though there are some similarities. I think reload has a few more uptempo rock tracks than load does, i honestly have to revisit both after watching this.
Are you guys gonna do Garage Inc. and S&M? or are we just sticking to original material studio? Also, Patrick, the lady on Memory Remains sounds f'ing amazing.
Ill have to watch the reaction video again, but I think it was this video you guys were talking about production and whether they do things on purpose or they just havent figured it out. A great watch if you get a chance, especially when you get to the hardwired review. They show production on each song
I will not tolerate any Low Man's Lyric slander. That song is phenomenal.
Agreed, although the original demo version (Mine Eyes) is superior in my opinion and it's a shame they didn't record it that way.

I don’t think Iv ever been more excited for a TH-cam video lol
"what is james' ancestral background" was so random and then the reply was priceless😂
James: Ooooo!!!
I think the eye liner fits so well with this review hehe
Devils Dance was first played live in 1995!!!! Fun Fact!!!
that and 2x4 at donington ‘95 if I remember right, unless they did it at the fan club show in the uk club that same yr first
It’s definitely a B-Bender on Unforgiven II
Right on: Bleeding Me is one of my top favorite Metallica songs of all time. Along with Fixxxer and The Outlaw Torn.
1: Fuel
2 King Nothing
3 Ain't My Bitch
4: Hero of the Day

8: Bleeding Me
9: Wasting my Hate
10: Devil's Dance
11: Where the Wild Things Are
12: Prince Charming
@@redyyz4489 Thank you for having Prince Charming as the best 6 on ReLoad, cause that song kicks ass.
If it was it’s own album name it could be called unload😂
Was waiting for this, hell yeah! Unforgiven II will always have a special place in my memory. I love how there are little references to the first one, like the hidden riff from pt. 1 toward the end and the "never be, never me" in the last choruses
ive been waiting for this im so happy
Been waiting for this one! Only one I’m more excited for is Stanger
Oh God.
Did they do Death Magnetic yet?

You were saying you have imposter syndrome and I totally understand that feeling! As a TH-camr myself I definitely feel that
But believe me, you are definitely one of my favorite reactors on TH-cam right now, anything you do I love watching, I have especially loved all these Metallica vids! Keep it up!
Thank you very much for the encouragement!
@@PatrickMusilek 🔥🔥
You and remote Chris are great with discussing albums. Can’t wait to hear more!
Trivium has been requested a few times, so it has been added to the list of possible bands to react to!
@@PatrickMusilek another good band to check out would be Volbeat, particularly their album ‘Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie’
@@PatrickMusilek niiiiiice 🤘🏻 I love Goodbye Forever and You Will Know. I do agree with those tracks you named too, particularly Marie Laveau.
Will you do Death Magnetic? (pd: all nightmare long is.. goated)
We will! But first we have to do St. Anger! Then its DM and Hardwired!
Their live performances are what made them great . They put on some angry awesome METAL shows.
Fixxer is my favorite song on the album.
Do you guys think you're going to do St. Anger? It would be... interesting... to say the least.
Yeah they’re going chronologically.
They MIGHT do S&M next but they will definitely get to St. Anger eventually.
Hey! We're down to only 23mins before the music starts haha, I very much enjoy these.
I actually did a cover of "Fixxxer" where I put bagpipes on it....😬
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Welcome back Present Chris!
You should do garage inc a double album of cover songs
I love the poetry of these albums. Low man, memory, until it sleeps, king nothing, hero so so good.
Wild that Better Than You won the 99 Grammy for best metal song.
VERY wild in deed! One of my least favorites off the album!
All we need to know about grammies.
2:36:00 The problem with Low Man's Lyric is that it was produced, period. There are videos of this played acoustic (in Korea, I think) with James just sitting in a chair with a guitar and a hoodie and it's much, MUCH better since it's really a personal, emotional song. A lot of that sort of music falls apart as it passes through multiple hands and multiple pieces of equipment (which sounds like a ridiculous thing to say, but a heartbreaking song played live in front of you carries *so* much more with it, right?)
As far as the production on it's face, I'm not sure they actually knew what to do with it mechanically.
Oh i like the flatline reference!
Get a life lol
Makes me think of "bloody hammer" by Rocky Erickson. The full band studio version isn't bad, but the acoustic version is so much better, and it captures the weird dark content of the lyrics way better as well
Never thought about bad seed sounding like zztop but now you ve mentioned it i cant unhear this! Nice call
Load is no St. Anger. lol. The Load/Reload albums are my sneaky faves. Not just the hit songs either, the deep cuts are beefy.
There s a footage of 1995 where you see them still with long hair 😉, where they recorded the basic tracks in 1995 from both, but did completed in 1996 for reload
The hi-hat coming in on Prince Charming sounds weird because the riff doesn't start on 1, but on 4-and. You can't really tell that in advance though as it begins with guitar only
I'd say most Metallica fans haven't heard the "Lulu" stuff, but they've definitely heard the S&M albums. So I'd support reacting to the S&M's!
LuLu is not Metallica's album, it just features Metallica instrumentals that Lou Reed asked them for as a feature on the album. But it is not a Metallica album. Can't stand people saying it is.
Here are some bands that I love that started after 2000: Mastodon and Baroness. Baroness has an album coming out in September actually.
My favourite parts is when present chris doesn’t agree with something someone says but instead of saying it he just opens his eyes really wide for the camera and scoffs

@@ssnakeloveme_sicp2253 hmmm nice I’ll go with that👍
Metallica didn't use a drop tuning until -Human on S&M in 1999, everything else was just lower tunings. Bad Seed is C# standard tuning.
Is C# the same as D Standard? I was pretty sure that this song was D Standard and I hate to remember tunings unless its eb or e
@@Mine_CraftLP2 C# is not the same as D standard. It's a semi tone lower.
These Metallica reaction videos are the most entertaining things I’ve seen in ages. 😂 I honestly don’t think they’ve ever made a bad album. This is a cracker of an album. They broke out Carpe Diem Baby out of nowhere years ago on tour.
What an ear man!... yes he is playing a telecaster with a b-bender.... amazing! (would love to have one just to play this song lol)
Better car driving song than fuel is... My apocalypse !! From death magnetic
Bro Patrick you’re killing me with the Lars / Kirk makeup 😂 everytime I look at you with the necklace and reload colored shirt, I die laughing 😂 awesome video guys
1:15 omg what an anomaly who would’ve thought that there was someone like that
55:30 thats a funny statement too especially when the bulk of their catalog during the 80s was influenced by nwobhm and other metal acts that weren’t priest or maiden. James was listening to the venom song buried alive when he got the idea for the intro to one. All the cool harmony stuff that cliff had a hand in on orion was from what kirk said in a interview influenced by thin lizzy, cliff said to kirk thats where he gets his stuff
the eyeliner honestly looks good on you
To answer Present Chris’s question, yes that is a B-bender in Unforgiven II.

Cool if that's true. Good for Newstead, such a champion of Metallica for all those years!
I think the next goal is to get music album reactions that’ll fit in the Metallica algorithm. Love the format. Also, remote Chris has to be on every album show.
Reload got me into metal as a young teenager. 20 years later im still a proud metalhead because of this album.
You guys resist my blood pressure, listen to memory remains live when the crowd sings the old ladies part
That was interesting. I am unfamiliar with Reload and Hardwired. They were just albums that passed me by but I listened along with you to Reload… and it was ok. It probably would’ve made an incredible double album. I look forward to your Hardwired listen.
There was a good reason why lars didnt turn it into a double album, I forgot why but you can look it up or something😅
Listened to this whole at work for 45 minutes before I looked down and realized big homie has eye shadow😂😂
You lost me when you didn't know Bob Rock produced the record until you were listening to Devil's dance
3:11:32 I have an original run version of Death Magnetic and it was indeed a digipack style. The lyric book was actually glued in to the front cover and it was actually cut out all the way through the booklet to make the grave 3D.
Yep. Have one too
Small detail, but devil's dance is not in drop D, but in standard D tuning.
Will you guys be doing the Hardwired Album?
can’t wait the st anger reaction
Although I like st anger, their reaction probably wouldnt be good
I think you should absolutely listen to Garage Inc.
A metal band I love that formed after 2000 is Parkway Drive. Those guys kill it, every damn record. Massive riffs and massive vocals.
Ive seen their name but never heard any of their music...i think Remote Chris has mentioned them before...
I'd also be interested in you reviewing the new Sleep Token album. I like the production.

You guys must listen the Queens of the Stone Age discography.
Interesting suggestion! I dont know much about them at all but I think I liked one of their songs back in high school. Ill definitely add them to the list!
@PatrickMusilek Please do it! You will not regret it. Their music is extremely rich and the albums are very different from each other.
Thank you! On it to fix it!
He trolls
Yo, I agree.
He doesn't listen to the lyrics at all, so he's missing out on a lot there.
Great reactions. I'm a huge metallica fan and load and reload came outb when i was in my 20s and it was such a great time.
I dont listen to many newer rock bands. But one of my favorites which have come post 2000 is Ghost. And Metallica are fans of Ghost as well.
Yes that's true! Ghost might be a good band to look into int he future. I know OF them but I don't think I've heard a single song!

Lars, like many 80's drummers, was using power toms from Ride The Lightning up to the Black Album. during the Load/Reload sessions, TAMA sent him their Starclassic Maple kit which was released in 1995 and saw the return of shallower drum depths as was popular in the 70's.
the tom sizes on this album would've probably been 10" - 12" - 16" - 18" // vs. his sizes on the Black Album which went 10" - 12" - 14" - 16" - 18" - 18" (and the two Lars tends to favor are the rack toms directly in front of his snare 12" and 14")
so we're hearing a MASSIVE size difference already as is in terms of the circumference, but now you gotta factor in that we're hearing shallower toms as well. this coming from the dude who had a 16" RACK TOM on his far right - which is standard floor tom size now haha
3:09:57 they did that recently in chasing light
Patrick, I am so glad to see someone else that hears the, in my opinion, *VERY* apt comparison between Reload and 72 Seasons. Metallica is my favorite band, but a few days after the album came out, I even tweeted: "Really loving the new Metallica album - and the fact that they finally released a follow-up to 1997's hard-hitting Reload album!" LOL
P.S. - I said that with all the love in the world, as I love both Load and Reload, as well as the older thrash-ier stuff.
This album is proof the double album wasnt the best idea. If they combined Load and Reload with the best of both it would be an insane album
