Wow, Zach..another great video. I am several ZachLife videos behind, but am certainly enjoying the "catch up." This rig re-do is a joy to watch. That is a fantastic exhaust job! I loved that startup afterwards. I could listen to that thing idle for hours on end. Your "think it out and do it" mechanical expertise is priceless. I sure admire your hands on knowledge and greatly appreciate you taking the time to take us "Tubers" along with you. I know I speak for all of us. Keep up the great work.
I've watched most all of your videos and am often intrigued by your "on the fly" designs and methods. At 75 years old and being a field mechanic for 60 years of that, I sometimes watch you dive down that rabbit hole and think UH-OH!!...but a couple of minutes or shows later...out you come with a fried up rabbit and all the fixin's. I not only love watching you be successful, but I learn some new tricks for this old dog. I have worked in both oilfields and gas fields here in Alaska so I mostly understand the what and why in the things you do. Isn't it kool what we as Americans can accomplish if we just take the word "can't" out of our vocabulary? And I'm with you on chinee parts, but sometimes it's hard to eat steak when you are paying for it with a baloney billfold. Keep on keepin' on!!!
You have a real engineers brain. Not the modern kind who can only do differential equations, but don’t understand how machines actually go together. You have the old school, 60’s, grew up on a farm engineer brain. This sort of creative work is my absolute favourite. Too bad building things, even when you do it yourself, is so darn expensive! If you ever get tired of the nuts under the console you can always throw in Rivnuts instead. Good for you for keeping the momentum going on all your projects. Too bad I live in Canada, if I lived local it’d be fun to lend a hand. I think you and I have a very similar mindset.
Well Zach, I believe untold numbers, of designs of various objects, are formed up by folks such as yourself, lying in bed…, hahaha..! The console looks awesome…! I am loving this drill rig series build. WABCO (Westinghouse Air Brake Company)… Great video, Thank you sir.
I thoroughly enjoy watching how you process things and how you create and build things. It’s pretty darn awesome. Hopefully you might make a cover to protect your command center from the elements.
I thoroughly enjoy watching a humble genius creat. Watching you reminds me of when I was young. Don't stop what you do and you'll be young long. Thanks, Zach!
I enjoy Your engineering and fabrication Zach. Your work over rig is a very interesting project. Thank You for sharing Your time and effort. Best Wishes to You and Your Family.
Amazing drillers console build,Zac. I chased drilling rigs for 30 years in west Texas renting BHA and RDH and surface mud equipment. Spent many hours watching drillers at their consoles. Not all that familiar with pulling unit operating, but same concepts. Sold rig and production supplies for NOV last 5 years before retirement. Rexroth air valves and fitting and gauges everyday. Your vidieos are great reminders of the oilfield. Your knowledge and skills are amazing. Good luck on rig build. Can't wait to see it operate.
Zack put a railing around the station and a umbrella stand or a fold out weather steel/ tarp. Oh pull out all the gages put sealant on them. This rig is coming along right smartly.👍🏻💯
@@wellscody86 We are actually living in strange times. They said that over time productivity would increase and things would become cheaper, but what I have noticed is that building a suit to put on a pig has become cheaper for many things in recent times.
I ran a rig that was straight piped...it was cool for all of 30 seconds before I was over it. As a rig pig I will tell you you might not ever have someone say thanks for your exhaust mod, but it's appreciated. And just FYI that straight pipe was all of 36" and it was loud af.
Definitely add a dog house for the motor. Itll quiet it down a bunch. Definitely better for the crew. Id also do a remote mount oil filter if you plan on running a lotta hours.
Fan named Justin watching ya in FACT doin Zach thangs! pure talent and just wow. find it hard to imagine you cant find a solution to ANYTHING! cheers from Santa Cruz ca
receipt paper is the trick to measuring stuff like this it also works really good for measuring trim for super exact finish carpentry just roll out how long you need and cut it to the length then you can transfer that to the stock your cutting from a journeyman who did finish trim for 30 years taught me that trick during my apprenticeship one job
My grandfather owned a fleet of old 70's and 80's R model Macks, all with straight pipes. He told me the turbo charger was the muffler on older trucks. IDK they sound good either way.
Please enjoy this happy congratulatory comment to tickle your algorithm. I enjoy your episodes very much and I want you to keep making them keep them coming baby you're doing great I love your show.
that paint is in no condition to be brushed on a windy day...needs to be thinned to about 3 to 1 paint to mineral spirits thinner and add a product called Penitrol at half as much as the thinner.... if you are not already using Penitrol in your oil based paints, you will think it is a gift from The Gods for how much it improves the paint when brushing...works great for spraying too
Zach, as usual I am IMPRESSED but never SURPRISED at your skills!!! You just have a vision and bring it to completion. It just again reminds me of what a successful operator does - jack of all mechanical trades...and pretty much MASTER at them also. In awe, as always.
Ran a Gardner Denver Mayhew 1500 here in Australia for 4 years before moving on to UDR 1200's, Schramm TX 180's & American Augers, mostly doing directional coal seam.gas & verticals.
Ah, finally you started squirting wire, I 100% quit pounding slag 45 years ago. How great the controls turnout will be determined more by how well they are labeled than whether the paint has runs. I wish there was at least one Murphy Gauge on the panel, I have loved their control parts for a long time.
I can't help but laugh when you got the chipmunks talking when you fast-forward through a section. You do fine fabrication, The way you take time and make it look right.
looks awesome.. you might consider a guard over the gas pedal on the ground/base below the console in case if something ever drops down there it wont hit the gas..
Excellent Video!! Beautiful / Functional Work!! I am no expert on oil rigs but from a control panel stand point seems very functional and practical! Thanks for showing us your design and work!
That thing's gonna be nice. Really well thought out. One thing though, I don't think you completely understand paint. Looking forward to seeing you run all those lines. Thanks for the video.
I busted out a wrap-a-round a while back, and my boss was mystified about how it could possibly help with pipe fab. I was using it to help fab up some custom temporary air to air piping.
when I was a refinery pipe fitter I solved the weird angle cutting problem by placing a over size blank in the joint (reference plane) used hermaphrodite calipers to scribe a cut line
Zack that Exhaust could not have turned out any better if an Engineer planned it but you just might want to drill a small hole somewhere on the bottom of the pipe. Just in case water would happen to get in there. That Console gets two thumbs up, possibly three.
That console turned out bad ass! I assume you used a cnc plasma table? This is a pretty amazing project to watch you work through even though I've watched a lot of the motorhome and trailer build.
Wow, just minutes for us and a month of sundays for you. I enjoy you showing and talking but if ya feel uncomfortable to talk to a imaginary person/microphone then its so be it. To have that much hanging in your head at night would boil beans without the stove. Keep em coming Zach
Damn Zach you got it going on. You know what you want, make your way and you will be happy. Can't wait till the next installment!!!¡😊😊😊😊 Keep up the great work!!
SOME IDEAS: HOW ABOUT A FLIPPER EXHAUST LID ON TOP OF PIPE TO KEEP WATER AND ICE FROM GOING DOWN,I HAVE SEEN THESE ALSO MOUNTED ON 45 DEGREE STUBS ON THE TOP EXHAUST MOUNTED SO WHEN RUNNING DEFLECTS EXHAUST TO THE OUTSIDE,ALSO PLEASE TELL US WHAT ALL THE GAUGES ON CONTROL PANEL ARE FOR,ALSO I HAVE SEEN OLD AIR COMPRESSOR AND TANKS 40-80 GALLON MOUNTED ON RIGS WITH INLET CHECK VALVES FOR AIR TANK SUPPLY RESERVE FOR THE CONTROL PANEL,THERE ARE HIGH VOLUME AIR COMPRESSORS WITH ADJUSTABLE AIR GOVERNOR FOR THE CUMMINS ENGINE AVAILABLE CHEAPER ON LINE,MANY ROAD CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT USE THESE!!! TRIC- HELL ZAC MAN❤😊
I had no idea those rexroth levers were that expensive. I agree with buying us made stuff but that's an absolute joke. I've rebuilt enough of those valves to know theres not 10k worth of gold in them. The only thing I'd change personally is I'd slap your slip lever next to your main drum clutch lever, I like having slips right next to clutch to avoid feeling around.. if you're not going your stopping. The only other thing other than that burning rag you had next to the draw works that I'd make sure you have is a lever that powers your rig up levers and work mode. That way you have power to rig up/level out then ya flip the switch and it cuts all the power to those levers and you have hydros to tongs/winch. That way you can't "bump" a lever and have the rig move when your tripping. She looks good though, its coming together nicely.
Love these videos... takes me back to watching my dad work on and build stuff.... I'm hoping I didn't miss this in the video, so I'll ask, were the "precision cut" parts for the valves and gauges, I'm guessing those weren't hand cut, so CNC, but was it plasma? laser? Were the parts sent out? to a local shop? or maybe to somewhere like sendcutsend? I'm just trying to imagine myself setting up a straight edge and guides to try and hand plasma out all those shapes, and nah, not gonna happen....
Nothing better in a Friday evening watching this and drinking cold beer
Thanks.
Come on now.... nothing????
@@justinr4787 I can think of other things, but this will do for now😂

Turning into a sweet rig, saved a boat load of money and better than most 2nd hand rigs floating around out there. Nice
Very well thought out layout and excellent craftsmanship!
Let's drill some holes!
Not gonna lie Zach. Your videos are awesome. No job too big for you.
Zack don't forget the flapper or in my area coffee can for that fancy exhaust. 😊
Pure genius, it's like music watching and listening.
Top shelf Zachary .... you may go home early. 😅
That is the stoutest exhaust system I’ve ever seen. I like it.
so much fun to see an old iron made to work once more

The gopro spinning on that casing was pretty neato! Well done!
Those 2 steel 90s are about the most expensive exhaust 90s Iv ever seen😂. At least they’re load bearing 👌🏻
Truthfully I bet they were cheaper the the actual exhaust ones.
@@TheZachLife. Why put lipstick on a pig when you can tailor that ole hog a whole suit. Excellent work on that console

Zach you forgot one thing that goes on the right side of the console. A cup holder. Great looking work right there.
You could fab up an exhaust flapper out of a hub cap it’s that big or cut a hole and weld a valve on the lowest point to drain the water
Cant wait to see it operate. The console looks so nice, looks like it could use a cover to keep it out of the weather.
Zach Love the camera on the rotating pipe trick!!!
What a fantastic project. What a great show.
that is a well thought out and very serviceable control station. WELL DONE!
"work twice as hard and wrestle this up there" I like to call this the BFI method, aka Brute-Force and Ignorance.
