We are on the same page! I started with mavik mini 1. Looking to upgrade. I also had a 7 year old computer and just upgraded it. So much faster for editing on FCPX. I definitely recommend upgrading your phone. The iPhone 12 Pro is amazing for videography! The resolution especially for the wide angle is incredible. And it also has a cinematic mode that blurs the background behind your subject. I also have the ring light. And a blue yeti microphone. Your drone shots are beyond gorgeous in your other videos so I definitely need to save up and upgrade.

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking about getting a used camera that could do better slo-mo. The iPhone slo-mo gets blurry and I hate it! Also want a lens eventually to get birds and animals 😄

Arigato Yoshiki! I would love to come to Japan and get beautiful videos of Mt. Fuji and the ocean :)

I watched your entire video and I will say that all your purchases have been really smart and well thought out. In addition the two things you mentioned acquiring, a gopro type camera and perhaps an interchangeable lens camera would add some option to your video. The video quality on the iphone is great, just can't really get a true telephoto or macro, etc but your style of vlog may not require that. The only thing I'd mention is that your audio is good but it's echoey. That has more to do with room treatment than the microphone but you may want to address that now that you have a better microphone up and working. Do some experiments, try recording yourself in a closet, try different rooms, even try outside. Dynamic mics tend to pick up less of the surroundings than condenser types. Your narration/voiceover skills are quite good if you're reading from a script, sounding like you're not reading from a script is more difficult than one might thing having done it. In the end it's all about content and if a tool will bring more interesting content people will want to watch.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! My room is echo-ey... I added an area rug, but the walls and flooring outside the rug are still hard. I have a desktop and record at my desk so I am not sure I am set up to record in a non-echoey setting very easily. I do read from a script! I like to be very precise in what I say, but yea conversational, funny, and energetic voiceovers are definitely an in which I can improve. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this! One thing about TH-cam I like is the community of other filmmakers! It's a tough job and we need to help each other so thank you!

@@PeterOwenFilms Yeah, there's definitely a lot of helpful folks on here but also the usual trolls. Just recently, I mean as recent as today Markus ( think his channel is caleld Markus Pix) put out a video on exactly this subject of room deadening and he also pointed out some interesting things like how your body will block some of the echo when wearing a lavalier. He's doing a whole audio series and its' one of the best I've seen so far.

@@robwasnj oh yes the trolls lol. I usually try and make light of their comments with a harmless joke. I suppose it's the price we pay for putting ourselves out there! I will check out the sound video!

A word on music by the way. I use epidemic sounds as well. That being said you can definitely use copyrighted music if you aren’t monetizing your content. I have another channel where I do more cinematic stuff and I use copyrighted music cause it’s not a channel I will ever monetized. I’m happy the ad revenue goes to the musical artist and I get to use copyrighted music I love.

Oh wow I didn’t know that! I thought they would take it down?

@@PeterOwenFilms I’ve done about 100 videos on my 2nd channel and only 2 weren’t allowed to be public. All it means is you can’t monetize it since you don’t own the rights to the music. I say go for it. It will hit your video saying it has copyrighted content. You just acknowledge it and the video stays up. No strike or anything. You’ll be good!!!

@@mchase4 oh wow cool! I guess I thought monetization would be cool some day so maybe I’ll just stay with epidemic sound 😆
