The Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize, which is named to honor one of the world’s greatest humorists, was awarded to Adam Sandler at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy -- including Chris Rock, Conan O'Brien, Ben Stiller, Dana Carvey, Pete Davidson, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Anniston, Idina Menzel, David Spade, and more -- on March 19, 2023, and aired nationally on CNN on March 26, 2023.
The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th-century novelist and essayist Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist, and creator of characters, Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly.
“Adam Sandler has entertained audiences for over three decades with his films, music, and his tenure as a fan favorite cast member on SNL,” said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter about this year’s recipient. “Adam has created characters that have made us laugh, cry, and cry from laughing. I am looking forward to a laughter-filled evening like no other as we celebrate his career at a ceremony that is sure to bring together the best in comedy.”

@@SirQuantization Not true all the time. Will Smith was in front of cameras and was expected to laugh. Allthough he did laugh initially the cameras didnt stop him from slapping Chris Rock when did didnt like his joke.

Steve Buscemi was a former NYC fireman. When 9/11 occurred, he dropped everything, showed up, and helped out his former crew. Never said anything about it or made a big deal about it. Now that is class, real class.
I did not know that. My respect for that man just got elevated to another level.

Steve buscemi is a legend in his own right, and the fact that he says no one looked out for him as much as Sandler did, really shows how much Adam Sandler puts on for his friends, he's literally the best friend we all want

What a lot of people may not know, is what a great human being, Steve Buscemi is. Before his acting career took off, he was a volunteer fireman in NYC. Or wherever it was, when 9/11 happened, and Steve heard that his former fire house was helping at Ground Zero, he went to Ground Zero and pitched in. He’s what we call a Mensch. I already was a fan of his work, but ever since I knew that back in 2001, I’ve always tried to see everything that he’s in.
He was a firefighter in the 80s and then came back 9/11 happened and when his firehouse closed or was going to be closed
Norm macdonald was also present in Manhattan that day looking for his brother
It was my understanding he was a professional fireman in Manhattan, not a volunteer in Poughkeepsie somewhere
