You know, with all the traditional fantasy RPG tropes in this game (wizard staffs, storming the Moldorc castle, BURG.L's quests being worded like fantasy missions), the lizard would have made for a great dragon stand in.
I really hope we get the lizard back or something similar, I know bugs are the main focus of the game. However I felt like the game could use a boost with a few non bug enemies to make the yard feel more real. Like maybe some small snails that move around, maybe a gardner snake boss in the tree stump. Would love to see new creatures.

Some things to note, the lizard had a spear and armor set and the ant queen had a scepter. The ant queen would summon multiple unique minions according to the code, a guardian and a spitter. The lizards code had been completly removed from the game, but the ant queens is still in along with her minions.
Could have been a horny toad, they are common here in west Texas. They eat ants and prefer dryer sandy climates. Their face is covered in spikes and they are able to spray blood from their eye.

I can understand all the points about the Lizard possibly being an unkillable entity, such as the crow and koi, mainly due to its size. Common house geckos might be a better fit as a boss or mini boss. It would be amazing to see one skittering across the porch wall or other verticle surfaces!
Just so you know Sim, the lizard is a horned lizard, not entirely sure which species though. It's a lizard that lives in hot climates, so makes sense it's in the sandbox. Hope they decide to add it in the future along with the ant queen/s

This subject is something that's super easy to hold a toxic attitude about. Really nice you didnt just trash the game like some other grounded creators. BTW, i saw a interview that the lead developer said that, nothing is cut from the game completely, some things were just cut from current release. Im sure we will get more, but i would much rater receive a more polished boss rather than something just thrown out.
I agree, something some people forget about is that even if the devs had enough time to make the bosses good, it can take a lot of time to figure out how to put out a well made encounter. The devs probably needed more time to figure out how they should implements the fights and their rewards and decided they didn’t want to add any poorly designed bosses just to have them ready for release.
Two creature’s I always feared if they were in the game from the start: Centipedes and scorpions. Now I kinda wonder what they’d be like after discovering they weren’t. Although at that point this yard would have such an insanely diverse ecosystem XD
Since the lizard was supposedly going to be thors, I’d expect it to have been a story boss that doesn’t come back. Or maybe it could be like the black widow, where there are 4 spawns and only 3 of them respawn. It would be cool if the one that was unable to respawn (thors pet) had a chip somewhere, and now you have to kill it to get it back. Then there could be other weaker ones that can respawn, and which have a different creature card.
I just came back to this video just because, and I just noticed something about hoop’s inventory in the ant queen screenshot; you can see the bards bow! They’ve had these bosses planned for quite a while to have that there I think
maybe instead of killing the queen ant when she is defeated she runs away and triggers a cave in that would require a bomb to open up her spawn so you can fight her again. I also think that there should be a frog boss in the pond area as the koi isn't really a boss. plus if there's tadpoles you kinda need a frog.
It's a Horned Lizard (or Horny Toad). They eat ants, mostly, so it would have made sense to be in the sandbox. In real life, most of the time they aren't a very big lizard. They can easily fit in your hand. They are also endangered, so it is illegal to handle them (in Texas, where they mostly live). Fun fact: Horned Lizards shoot blood streams from their eyes when they are threatened. I wonder if they had the lizard in the game do the same at some point in the fight.
I understand and fully agree that some things need to be cut, be it some small mechanics or bugs, especially when they don't really offer anything, like the water fleas which are weirdly still a thing. Bosses however, I think, the game should have more and not less. They don't have to be part of the progress, they don't need to gate something, all they have to provide a fun challenge and reward the player with something fun and unique, like the recipe for a real elevator, a new building style, an additional backpack row etc.
@Sir Sim-Alot so part of the reason the lizard wasn't add has to do with blood and gore bc it is a 13+ and couldn't have that rating so as a result it could not have been add bc if you were to kill it, it would bleed red bc it breathes oxygen, just a lil bit of info to share
I'm willing to spend some money for these future updates on grounded, this game is really fun and that's something I don't say for most games today. The possibilities of boses this game can have is pretty cool and new areas as well.
Well, an Ant Queen boss getting killed would not necessary mean that the entire colony would die, after all this is a game, and I highly doubt a ladybug can take down a big orb weaver irl. When it comes to Fire ant queen awards, perhaps an armor set that makes all the fire ants peaceful towards you since they think you´re the queen.
Another boss that was meant to be added although cut very early on was a huntsman spider, there is still code in the game for the kids' reaction to seeing it along the lines of "Wow, that spider is huuuge!"
What’s worse than a wolf spider? The huntsman. That thing is huge and long even as a normal human looking at it, so it would be a sort of giant to the grounded characters.

Hopefully they do a tier 4 update and include these and possibly other bosses. Hopefully one day they have small parts of the other yard maybe we have to beat these bosses to unlock it or something
im hoping for multiple dlcs for this game. there could be so many insects added to the game. they could add grasshoppers, crickets, smaller preying mantis', and worms for a small dlc. Then they could add bosses for another dlc, these two bosses could be added and possibly an assassin bug boss or a tarantula and maybe a fight between you and the crow or koi fish. It would be cool if they added more common insects into the game as well like house flies around the deck of the house, maybe add fleas that hop around and are the size of the aphids, they could put centipedes and millipedes inside some of the caves in the world and then put a couple different stick bugs around the map that kind of hide from the player so they are super rare to find
They should make a mechanic for when you kill the ant queens the nest is weakened or wiped out for a few days and then a “new” queen of the same type (red, black, fire) takes over spawning ants again.
Maybe they could add an ant queen to all the ant hills and have them drop something unique, but they would need to be combined to make that certain item

there’s so many missed opportunities this game has it’s not even funny. just not having access to the house alone is a huge ball drop. imagine the story line being making it a mission to wendell’s room for certain files or the final chip. harvesting household things to craft. dodging life size people that could potentially step on u while ur in there… anything… this game missed allot. the ending was so bad i felt like i wasted my time when i beat it.
I think it would make sense that if you killed the fire any queen, all fire ants would disappear for maybe 5 or 10 days before coming back. And it's summon recipe is found in the mixr room so you couldn't cheese the mixrs
Were these actually cut? I feel like their existence in the dev build would imply that these are still planned, but unfinished (hence, why they are in the development build). If they didn’t want it in the game, I think they would have phased out the idea of it before partially implementing it
It would be cool if they added a scorpion boss instead of the lizard because I kinda have no idea what it could do. Instead of like lizard chain mail but the scorpion or a scarab it would be cool because the scarab could give you wing set and you could go camouflage. For the scorpion you could have a stinger club with it’s stinger
the lizard was originally going to be thors (Wendell's son) PET that Wendell hid under the sandcastle so i see why thew wouldn't want it to be a boss but it could have been a cool unkillable enemy roaming around the sandbox like the koi fish at the koi pond
I feel like the queen ant would been work more like a mini bass and the lizard I think u could of make made a sword that looks like the tick sword because of the horns and did burning damage or maybe a shield that did damage when it got him

The problem with the lizard boss and grounded is that they want to keep a lower age rating and a lizard fight is considered “animal cruelty” because people are going to care more about a lizard getting beat up and killed AND all the blood that usually isnt seen besides a player getting hit. No one cares if the bugs get killed, also its not technically blood so yea they want to keep the ratings for the games age group lower for better marketing also more people playing the game and having fun
I don't think a Fire ant queen would be a good option from a bio perspective, but depending on the exact species a black ant colony may have multiple queens.
This is why i don't buy new games till all the dlc are out and if it still suck it can set on the shelf at the store for ever like i say it once i say it again no frog boss the game will not be worth buying.
They didn't want to make the lizard a boss fight because they were thinking of it as a family pet and they didn't want to do that because it would give the game a different rating in the UK I think
I think a possible reason that the Lizard Boss was cut out was it would’ve not made much sense. Compared to most of other insects. The Lizard would’ve needed to be at least about the size of Koi and even then it would’ve been a very small Lizard. It would have simply made not much sense

It’s really upsetting I love grounded me and my friend just defeated the mantis on woah and it was such a good time and to think that such cool things could’ve been in the game and to think they’ll never be there is disappointing a true let down
i hope they add more content soon. I was very happy with the new content.. just finished it all quickly and dont really feel like starting a whole new world.
What if the queen ant was kinda like a raid thing you would go into the ants home and kill the worker ants up to the soldier and and then the queen ant then you could get lots of food and materials in like their storage room or something
I will like to said that the mantis and the Broodmothers come back to life so I don’t think the Fire ant queen dieing and the colony living will not be to werid
Idea for a mutation it replaces natural explorer since it now cancels in combat what if they renamed it to fight or flight and you keep the speed boost while out of combat bit the moment you go in to combat you lose the speed boost like current natural explorer but you get a damage increase to make up for the loss of speed

Ive been wanting a non bug boss also the idea of pheromones and a queen makes the ant hill more worth exploring

They should add Dragon Fly armor that gives you a double-jump.

Looks like a horned toad… which is a desert lizard. We have them in Arizona. 😊

According to other people the lizard's code isn't even in the files anymore but the ant queen's code is still in so they could still add it

I believe there was going be 3 Ant Queen boss's. If you explore each ant hill there was paths block by a rock which will go into the boss room.

What was cut from the game sounds like a great video!
Have they been cut or have they been placed to one side for a new DLC or later update ?.

the fact that ant queen was teased since the game became available & for the team to give it up is so fcking sad
with the scale of the bosses already such as broodmother the lizard would have tohave been atleast 5x the size shown here
Add them in with dlc, I swear if they stop doing content for this game thay are ignorant af this is the best game that Xbox has to offer there’s nothing else like this

If ur like me from the grounded future in there hot bar for the queen ant picture they have the bards bow which is pretty neat as a cool think that’s in the game now
feel like that lizard is the one that shoots blood from it's eyes. horned lizard. Much closer match than bearded.

If it was in the game if you killed it it could give you a mutation where you can climb walls like some lizards
It’s really upsetting I love grounded me and my friend just defeated the mantis on woah and it was such a good time and to think that such cool things could’ve been in the game and to think they’ll never be there is disappointing a true let down

i hope they add more content soon. I was very happy with the new content.. just finished it all quickly and dont really feel like starting a whole new world.

What if the queen ant was kinda like a raid thing you would go into the ants home and kill the worker ants up to the soldier and and then the queen ant then you could get lots of food and materials in like their storage room or something

Here’s an idea make all boss gear teir 4 so now you have a reason to go for bosses
You already have a reason… you have to discover all the bosses and bugs to get 100%

I will like to said that the mantis and the Broodmothers come back to life so I don’t think the Fire ant queen dieing and the colony living will not be to werid

Idea for a mutation it replaces natural explorer since it now cancels in combat what if they renamed it to fight or flight and you keep the speed boost while out of combat bit the moment you go in to combat you lose the speed boost like current natural explorer but you get a damage increase to make up for the loss of speed
