Melanie Griffith is an American actress. She was cast in 1988's Working Girl, which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She received Golden Globe nominations for her performances in Buffalo Girls (1995), and in RKO 281 (1999).
While attending the Hollywood Professional School, she was advanced in her studies, which allowed her to graduate at age 16.
16-year-old Griffith met actor Don Johnson, then 22. The two began dating, and the relationship culminated in a 6-month marriage in 1976.
She was subsequently cast in two 1975 movies: the comedy Smile, and Stuart Rosenberg's The Drowning Pool.
In 1981, Griffith appeared in the exploitation movie Roar. On one occasion during the shoot she was mauled by a lion and had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery.
Griffith's well-known drug and alcohol addictions temporarily stalled her career in the early 1980s.
Griffith achieved mainstream success when Mike Nichols cast her in Working Girl (1988). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance.
Griffith reconnected with Johnson, and the two remarried in 1989. She gave birth to her 2nd child, daughter Dakota Johnson.
In 1995, she starred in the Western miniseries Buffalo Girls. Griffith was nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1996, Griffith co-starred with Antonio Banderas in the comedy Two Much. Banderas and she began a relationship during the film's production, and were married that year.
She followed this with a starring role as a free-spirited heroin addict in Another Day in Paradise.
In 1999, she starred in Crazy in Alabama, a comedy-drama movie directed by Banderas.
This was followed by a role in the HBO television film RKO 281, in which Griffith portrayed 1920s and 1930s movie star Marion Davies. She received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
Griffith appeared alongside Banderas in the 2014 science-fiction film Autómata.
She stared in a 2020 comedy-drama film The High Note.
