This answered a lot of questions I had about training. I started training my kitten without clicker and got through seven-ish tricks without a clicker. I got a target stick clicker eventually and continued with it and I'm glad I did, some tricks like sit pretty were hard to teach without it.
I decided to try your kit because I originally bought a cheap clicker, and it was way too loud so she was scared of it. Yours works great (and the stick is SOOO helpful) and she loves cat school!
Great videos, thanks! Another TH-cam instructor used a ball of aluminum foil on the brush end of an old toothbrush as an effective target stick. Really any stick with a ball of aluminum foil at the end that wouldn’t fly off could do it.
How to stop unwanted behavior. My kitty has an automatic feeder for dry food, but I also give her wet food once a day. The room I feed her in she obviously associates with eating, so every time I enter the area she meows and follows me around. Can I stop this behavior?
I got the clicker and I'm so nervous to start training my cat. She's 1 and when did training when she was 5 months and she did good but she got attitude and will only listen when she wants to and when she does listen it's only a half listen 😮💨 Wish my luck you guys, imma need it when I start.
Thanks Julie again for a great video, I still have two more questions if you don’t mind: 1. I notice in the video you do not say a command for Jones to sit on a chair as an example, once you get rid of the pointer, how would he associate a verbal command to sit on a chair if a command wasn’t part of your training? 2. After sessions of training, can I reward my cat a treat without using a clicker if she follows my word command that we trained on? Thanks 🙏🏼
I don't focus on teaching verbal cues to cats since it's easier for them to follow hand signals. Yes, it's fine to reward your cat with a treat without using the clicker.
Your training video is soooo helpful! Thanks a lot😘I’ve attend a training course, but I cannot precisely get the procedure of step by step(until I see your video (how I trained my cat to fetch). And I have a problem with what hand gestures and cues should I use during the training ?(now I use index finger to show touch and then transfer it to the cue(come),palm down show sit and already transfer it to a cue(sit)
Or I just don’t need to worry about cues and gestures, cuz we can use target as a replacement? But I really want my cat lie down on the mat when i say a cue to him.
What about when training with two cats? Is it always 1 click and reward? I’m trying to teach them individually and at the same time, so when it’s individually I only give the one cat a treat at click. I feel like it’s confusing for them but when I try to separate them into other rooms they get upset lol
She said in the video that you can use parts of their meals as a treat, yes, but obviously you need to control the portion. My cat is very food motivated too and sometimes we use the usual food, but for harder tricks he needs a more high-quality reward
Hi Julie! I got my clicker and pointer/clicker, thanks! What brand of treats do you give Jones? I got some freeze dried chicken treats which my kitten love but they crumble when I try to break them apart. What brand do you use? I see you breaking them up.
There's a video on treats, and I think I provide links to the brands I use in the description. The Instinct freeze-dried raw meals are the least crumbly: www.instinctpetfood.com/cats, but I also use ones that crumble, and I put the tiny pieces in a food puzzle at the end of the session. Have fun training!
As children in the classroom, the goal is to teach each kitten to stay at their spot. Work with one kitten while the other gets treats for staying on their spot. You can also distract one kitten with a food puzzle while you work with the other.
With the subscription, does the book and web login include these TH-cam videos? Or will I need to watch these videos here on TH-cam first, and then watch the subscription content? Also, I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the book, but will the cat be both finger and clicker trained or will they always have to rely on the clicker once they understand?
The subscription is separate from TH-cam. When you are in the membership you don't need to watch the TH-cam videos - all the videos are organized in there. A clicker is a teaching tool. Once the cat learns the behaviour, you no longer need to use it, but you should continue to reward your cat for their effort.
You really don’t need a clicker. If you’re using a bridge many different things can be the bridge. A whistle, a clicker, your voice, a cue. Some species I train you don’t even need a bridge, unless you’re planning on being so far away you can’t reward right away.
I cluck my tongue instead of a clicker because I can do it anytime and my hands don’t have to juggle another thing. I have used it while actively riding my horse to help her understand clearly what the correct answer was when learning a new movement or perfecting a movement she struggles with! I can’t STOP riding and treat right then and there, but she still KNOWS when she have the correct response! 💜
Do you think it's possible to train a 15 year old kitty? He's always been pretty smart and he LOVES food, but I've always wondered if he has bad hearing. Vet says he's not deaf, he just doesn't care to respond. 🤣
How do you get someone to go to work when you don't want to give them a paycheck anymore 😉? Reward your cat often, but if you don't want to use treats, use a portion of your cat's meals - working for food provides mental, physical and behavioral benefits.
When do I know the cat KNOWS the behavior we wanted and not to use clicker anymore?? Trying it without clicker and it shows like that they are okay without it??
A clicker is a teaching tool and once the behaviour is taught you don't need it anymore. Training is like playing a slot machine - the cat doesn't need to win every time to play the game.

That was really educational about how and why to use a clicker. Perfect. Thank you!

Thank you grate video!
I ll start training my cat with your method I'll share the results with you thanks a lot for all your recommendations kisses to Jones ♥️
And? How's it going?
Amazing! Thank you!
New friend here, These training tool is so useful! Thank you are sharing so good video! I have a Scottish cat, I'll follow you!
Thank you

Why not just solely use the target stick, since it has a clicker built in already? Is there a benefit to having the standard clicker as well?
I was thinking the same

They can tell clicker sounds apart if you use 2 different models! Think about how attentive cats are at how 'plastic bags' sound (treat bag).
I make a click sound with my tongue. Works the same. But the stick is definitely a good idea coz my boi grabby af.
How many treats can i give per day?
Adorable cat:)
Can you use their normal food as a reward if they are very food motivated? Or should it be something different?
She said in the video that you can use parts of their meals as a treat, yes, but obviously you need to control the portion. My cat is very food motivated too and sometimes we use the usual food, but for harder tricks he needs a more high-quality reward
What if my cat is deaf
Do we add verbal commands?

@@CatSchool Thanks so much! I knew you had it somewhere but couldn't find it.

I have 2 kittens - can i train them at the same time? Or will they end up distracting each other more often than helping each other?

I don't have clicker training and freeze-dired-treat so what should I do??
I want to train my kitten😔☹️

I downloaded a clicker app and it works great! We have to use what we have.

I have a question dose the target stick come with the clicker?
Yes it does :)

How do you wean your cat off of the clicker and treats to just do what they’ve been trained to?

Hii
This is so weird lol. It's just always odd seeing cats do what u ask 😆. I trained my cats to sit and come, but that's about it lol.
Instead of a target stick can I use a toy like those toys that are like a snake 🐍
but like this you cant stop using the clicker AND the treat.. :(

Do I need a clicker or can I click with my mouth
