I used to have a black russian terrier many years ago and would give anything to get another one. These dogs are loyal beyond belief. Mine was about 75-80cm (28-30 inches) tall and around 130lbs (58kg). Very poweful yet playful. When I first bought him as a pup I thought he was a giant schnauzer but by the time he was 2 he grew larger than any schaunzers in town. Then I found out he was RT. For anyone who owns this breed of dog, you are very lucky.
I met a BRT at a dog park once - it was huge and a stunning dog. Imposing but then very friendly once its owner permitted me to pet her. The dog was so calm and confident yet friendly - the experience had a lasting impact on me.

I have a 5 year old male and a 6 month female, they truly are great dogs (with good training). I find it surprising how the wolf is actually being submissive. Although i'm not surprised that the bears intimidates him. Nice video, thank you.
had brt in the past. It's very friendly dog, but also it's one of the best guarding dogs. When watching this I was imagining what would happen to the wolves and bear if that kid would be in any danger
i live in australia and when i move out i would love to buy a BRT, mainly because I love russia and the dog is so big and unique. the only problem is, you said above 27C it suffers. it is always more hot than that here, will it be ok, or will i have to shave it?
Yep, they a very special breed of dog, very human-centric and objective-centric, they feel themselves more like a member of your family/pack, than like being a dog. Nowdays you can get it easily from abroad. From EU, its easy because of open borders and unified veterinary regulations, but originals come from mother Russia :) But be careful - because of its black color it feels comfortable until 25-27C, above it it suffers. But ideal temperature for them is anything below 0 C. :)
@@deanfirnatine7814 yes, but certain times of year it is normal for large bears to have a belly almost dragging the ground in preparation for hibernation… but I agree if the bears are well fed than they have no need to try and feed by attacking other predators.
Holy mackerel, what kind of zoo is this that keeps wolves and bears together? Aren't they competitors in the wild? In this video, they are like friendly neighbors!
@@quetzalcoatl3242 if this is Russia, then the bear does not need to break the fence, in the evening after work, he just leaves through the door, goes to the store for vodka, and then rides by bus to his apartment in the city center.
@PulkaSkurken Yep, we, owners of BRT are like owners of Lexus - once try, never want another brand (breed) :) And Sweden should be perfect for them. Regards to Baxter
Well...actually it's much smaller then national park, it's called "Bear Farm". I would guess the whole place containing 3-4 big cages should be not more than 15-20 hectars
Well, I dont know about shaved BRT :)) I have a feeling that it will look like a shaved sheep :))) Regarding comfortable temperatures I do know, that NRT like almost any other russian breed is optimized for temperatures from -30 to +30. Everything below-above is not comfortable, but you should try to speak to BRT owners from "warm" countries. Are there any BRT in Australia?
I typed in русский wolf and got this I thinking "there's a small/big bear with another bear with to wolves and their not killing each other, nice" and "there's a cute Russian baby who gets to know Russian when he starts talking. back to wolves I heard they can become a domestic wolf if taught at birth. (Idk y but I've looked up Russian foods, tea & coffee and I like the writing but I think I will be a audio recording to learn how to speak it.
The wolves in this video reminded me of how dogs are actually supposed to act. This is how normal dogs also act if they haven´t had much contact with humans. We just always detrain our dogs to not act the way they naturally act and to be less submissive. But then again, who cares as long as the dogs and owners are happy!
They're not really true terriers, either. The names I've heard are Russian Bear Schnauzer, Tchorny Terrier, Stalin's Dog, and of course Black Russian Terrier. Personally I think Bear schnauzer fits best. Their size and guardian heritage fits better with the schnauzer family than the terrier family. They really have nothing in common with terriers, their only connection being an Airedale ancestor.
I agree about Airdale blood being minimum compared to the main line of Schnautzers, so you have a point there. Thanks again for sharing this new name with me. I actually start to like it, too :)
Actually the two original breeds were the Giant Schnauzer and the Airdale so there really is a 50/50 split in the very beginning then other breeds were brought in. But the real reason for the "Terrier" is they wanted the "never give up" gamness of the terrier temperament, and they got it in spades, but with a solid personality.
Then I guess BRTS don't make good guards if you have wild animals near your home. I am looking for a dog that is obedient, likes exercise & can defend against bears, Mountain Lions & Coyote.
Yes, most likely you are looking for some nordic breed - Laika, Malamut and the like. I'm sure there are places where they can help you refine your search. Even though I'm positive that a properly trained BRT would be good against wild animapls let's face it - there are other breeds that are genetically much better suited for this. For instance I'm almost sure that BRT sniffing is worse than that of Laika. Not speaking about the fact that Laika instinctively knows how to avoid getting killed by a bear.
Yes, he was friendly to people. That's also genetic for working and hunting breeds. I'm sure that Laika , for instance, would attack bear in this situation without hesitation.
