Learn 8 English Idioms You Can Use At Work! 🧑💼🔨

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 พ.ค. 2024
- In this English lesson you'll learn 8 different idioms that you can use when you're talking about work. Each of these are quite common. In fact I heard 5 of these just over the past few days. I'll be sure to explain the meaning, and also give you a number of example sentences as well. You'll also be able to hear the pronunciation as I use each of them numerous times.
In this lesson you'll learn words and phrases like: to roll up your sleeves, to bend over backwards, to get cracking, to go the extra mile, to cut corners, to have your work cut out for you, to pull your socks up, and to have your hands full.
I hope you enjoy this lesson on business idioms.
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

Bob the Canadian always goes the extra mile to teach us English. We are in good hands, people! 👨🏼🏫🙌🏻
I could not agree more!
I still wish the phrase was "go the extra kilometer" but alas, the U.S. and U.K. just have a grip on these phrases! 😎🚀🏋
I agree with you 👏🏻💯
Hey! Thanks for the shoutout! We had our work cut out for us, but it was super fun. 😊
Yep. It was a good time. If money wasn't a deciding factor I'd come visit this winter and be a guest speaker in your class! 😎🚀🏋 BTW, I've added to link to your channel now in the video when I'm pointing around. Sometimes I forget things.
@@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian that is so generous of you. Thanks so much!
I have been watching your video for over 7 years now on a daily basis. When I do my house chores, I always listen to you, so it is a win-win, finishing my work and listening to English and learning from you. Although I ended up in Canada since 7 years now and although I really speak English very very well now but I can't stop listening to you because there is always something new to learn and also you are so nice teacher with positive energy that keeps everyone motivated. Merci encore et Bon journée ❤
Bob,I admit that quality of your videos has improved for 2 years. It's commendable that you don't stand still
I'm a Russian speaking student who's about to take an IELTS exam in a couple of months so I need to roll up my sleeves to enrich my vocabulary. I'm trying to learn new words and phrases everyday by listening or reading different texts/podcasts, there's no way to cut corners while preparing for such an exam. People who want to get a higher score, need to get cracking on their preparation. It's really good if you go the extra mile and find supplementary resources while getting ready for the exam. Those who are lazy or don't feel motivated need to pull their socks up! Despite the fact that it can be sometimes very hard to find 'the right time' to sit at the table and start working because you have your hands full, try to do your best anyway! IELTS exam preparation means you have your work cut out for you.
Very clever and well done! You used all those idioms perfectly. Sounds like English is your first language - again, well done! 👍

thank you bob for teaching me this idiom "have my hands full". cause i always have trouble in managing time and plans, there are too many things i need to handle, think, and check, i just always make myself have my hands full.
maybe bob could teach us some ways to express our anxiety or busy in daily life. thank you a lot, wish you have a good day.💖
Thanks for the useful phrases!
At the start I was confused by phrase "popped out' but then I have involved into the lesson with all my might :)
Yes, when you're at work or at home you can "pop out" to do something. It means to do it quickly and efficiently. I might "pop out" to get some ice cream or something like that! 😎🚀🏋
@@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian , teacher God bless you!!!
I know Bob from channel “Learn English from Lucy”. But I was attracted by Bob’s detailed explanation of the English words using in different conversation or surroundings. We can use these words more properly in daily life. Thanks again. 😊😊😊
Yes, Bob is definitely a better teacher 😂
Well done our teacher
Thanks for watching! 😎🏋🍕
🍁🙋Good morning lovely teacher. It's 9:30 a.m. here in Brazil. I just have my GYM -Workout done. But I stop a little bit to hear from you. Thank you for all your nice English Class you have done so far. Greeting for Jen and Kids of yours. See you.🍁🙋🤝👍👏🍁🌎
Thanks for squeezing me in! I'll say hi to Jen and the kids for you! 😎🚀🏋

A wink from France
I like it when you interact with people. . Teacher Bob. . That would be a nice English lesson, you interacting with people.
Good evening ,MR Bob😀👋
Good morning! 😎🚀🏋
Thanks a bunch, Bob for going the extra mile all the time with your lessons here!
I am pleased that you decided to dive in and give us this new lesson.
Thanks for the lesson. Some students can be a handful. They don't want to roll up their sleeves, muck in, bend over backwards or go an extra mile. They just slack off. When they fall behind they need to catch up. Thanks for the idea with a basket for phones.
Great example sentences and I hope your phone basket is working out. We like using them because then the student doesn't feel like your taking their phone, it's just spending some time by itself in the basket until the end of class! 😎🚀🏋
Bob's definitely a person who's cut out for teaching. If he decides to make a good lesson for us he buckles down, even if he's got a lot on his plate. Thanks a lot, teacher!👍❤🤝
I try my best! 😎🚀🏋
@@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian Hope, you keep it up!
Thank you so much, Teacher. I've just listened to this lesson twice, not enough if I like to go the extra mile. I have to bend over backwards, so I'll try to pull my socks to learn English.
Have a wonderful day, Teacher.
To roll up your sleeves, I think it is the universal one. It is easy to know the meaning. I can tell the meaning without being told what it means. Great video!
It's a great phrase. You can easily picture someone rolling up their sleeves to do something. 😎🚀🏋
Very good and handy video.
Great video Bob, as per usual! I would only like to add the idiom "to go above and beyond". I know it's very similar to "to go the extra mile" or "to go the whole nine yards", but I thought it was worth mentioning it, cos I think it's quite common and useful too. Have a great rest of the falling month! 😉💪
That's another good idiom to know, thank you 🤪
New idioms to learn. Thank you Sensei Bob.
I'm happy to help! 😎🚀🏋
밥 선생님 감사해요^^ thank you bob teacher!

Hello Bob How's It going? Hope you Okay. This is the First Time I talk to you from your grandparents' original country . The country I have recently emigrated to . Thanks for helping us learning English .You are awesome.
I hope things are going well there and you have settled in! 😎🚀🏋
First of all thank you for this great lesson.
You're very welcome! 😎🚀🏋
Thank you 💚Teacher BOB💚
You are very welcome! 😎🚀🏋
Thanks for this channel and this video!
I watched the video three times cos i need to use them if i remember them, cut corners offten do by people who are not responsible some people do it on purpose to get anything cheaper, we should avoid it. Don't bite more than you can chew as well, we should veg out from time to time, and we should roll up our sleeve if do togue works, i'm delighted that mrs. Jen always go extra mile to make the customers feel satisfied with the flowers that you two sold,
Sometimes people bend over backwards to finish their work. When i was an elemetary school students i needed to get cracking or else i would be late, i don't have any work cut out for me today i have too much time on my hands. Japanese people usually pull their socks up to make their boss elated.😂
Note: Noriko san commented on this lesson on the comment you know, plus japanese people are puntual people like you.😊
Sad reality in japan:
Workers there too stress about work, probably that's because they have their hands full, however they force themself to settle everything.😢
Thank you for your tremndous work ! 👏
You're welcome! 😎🚀🏋
Love the lesson. Thanks for the useful phrases!
Thank you So much! It help me understand much better at work 😊
You are the best ever, thank you.

You went for the extra miles, bending backwards and pulling your socks up literally. This helped us to memorize these idioms 😀👏✨ Thanks, sir.
