    Great review! We just got a 2023 SV with the optional black wheels, crossbars, muffler finisher, illuminated kick plates, etc., and paid about 24K. We are astonished at how nice this car really is! Like, something this cheap has no business having this nice of a ride! The ride is truly comfortable, the bumps are muted and the ride itself feels luxurious and is better than ANY other car we've owned. This is not an exaggeration. The handling is great, the steering is direct, the brakes are good and easy to modulate, the seats are super comfortable, there's plenty of space inside for adults, including a baby seat in the rear, the trunk is big, the doors close with a solid thunk, gas mileage is awesome, the stereo sounds good, the screen is responsive - I can go on and on. Truly, this car is a hidden gem! The ONLY negative is the refinement of the engine - that's where the cost cutting comes through (they had to make it cheap SOMEwhere). You both feel and hear the engine when accelerating - not refined. Other than that, however, when cruising, the car is very quiet and comfortable. But, that same weak-ish, unrefined engine gives you amazing gas mileage. Overall, this car is a HIT!

    • @Jan96106
      @Jan96106 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with everything you say. However, I only hear the engine once in a while. Some mornings the engine is a bit loud when it idles. Other mornings not at all. I am glad it has blind spot monitoring as this is my first SUV, and I really need that. The blind spots are different on an SUV than on the coupe I had before. I have over 1,400 miles on it now. I drive it around town and on the expressway. I can get as high as 43.4 MPG on the expressway. I also like the Sirius radio. After the trial, I took it for a year because I got it at a very reduced price. Otherwise, it is too expensive.

    • @Naldynator
      @Naldynator ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jan96106 Yeah, you gotta keep the SiriusXM radio subscription lapsing - keep ignoring their offers/reminders until they lower the price to, like, $5 a month, LOL! That's the only way. And, yeah, at idle, the engine on the Kicks is quiet. I'm saying, when accelerating - especially uphill - it's pretty loud and unrefined. But, that's OK. No car is perfect. And, for the price, this car is sure close to it. For me, just wish it had about 150HP and a more refined engine. Then, it would be absolutely perfect. Still love it, though!

    Love my 2022 SV 2-tone. I gladly gave up a 2019 Hyundai Tucson for my Kicks. It's already been from Georgia to NJ and had no problems keeping up on turnpikes or entering/exiting interstates. Plenty of room and very comfortable and the ride is so smooth.

Quite a lot of updates for the 2023 model and it will be a nice contrast to your March review of the 2022 Corolla LE.

    Sometimes I despise the fact that I love performance. This is easily the best bargain out there in a compact, technically SUV. Which are becoming more and more insanely popular with the car-buying public. CUV? I think that's the right abbreviation. Good looking inside and out. Inside it's a Nissan Versa with a hatch and a tall roofline. But that's going to be perfect for so many people. Again, if I didn't care about performance, I'd just buy this or the Versa; and enjoy all the money I saved.
    Over $40K for the average new car nowadays? How can the average person afford that? They can't. Those vehicles end up dangling from a repo-man's hook. The Kicks and the Versa are two that aren't likely to end up getting towed away. In general I like the SV trim most of all.
    Also, thank you for including 0-60mph. times. So sick of so many other car review channels that leave that out. It's a good baseline for acceleration on the parkway. Last thing you want is a vehicle so slow, you get run over trying to use the entrance ramp.

    • @funktron4
      @funktron4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dukeofurl01 People calling it an SUV are making that choice on their own. It's a crossover and that's how it's promoted. Not an SUV, but a sub-compact crossover, which is what it is.

      Or get the SR that isn't the Premium, unless you want the Premium features. I didn't want the leatherette or speakers in the headrests, so the SR worked out great and was only fractionally more than the SV.

    • @funktron4

      We have a lot of cars, and one of the fleet is a 2018 Kicks. I find myself wanting to drive that one a lot, LOL, just because it's so much fun to swing around. We've taken it on longer highway trips too, and it's surprisingly composed on interstates, and of course the fuel economy is solid. I've been leaving a Saab and BMW in the garage, leaving an Armada and other cars in the driveway, and getting in the Kicks. Might take it on a 16 hour round trip later this week.

    Guess you have never tried to get onto the LIE in rush hour traffic as this is way too slow. Too bad we don't get the 3 cyl turbo overseas gets. Selling this with drum brakes, one of the last vehicles with such an inferior setup just to save a few bucks leaves me wondering where else they cut corners. The FWD only is another area that it totally falls short.

    • @funktron4
      @funktron4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They might discontinue the Rogue Sport and redesign the Kicks for 2024, and offer AWD. With the Rogue and Rogue Sport offering AWD, there was no reason for this Kicks to have it. All that would do is take interior volume from the model and for no reason, since Nissan has two other crossovers in the lineup that offer it. Fact of the matter is that the Kicks has become popular enough that they can afford to end the Rogue Sport, make the Kicks larger and offer AWD. And honestly, the fact that the little car came with the naturally aspirated engine and early models had drum brakes, doesn't mean they cut corners anywhere else. It's actually the opposite----by doing that, it freed up the money to give it a nicer interior, and more standard tech features. The things they decided turned out to be correct based on the growth of sales of the modestly priced little car.

    A1 transmission CVT continuous variable transmission ain’t no true automatic is the worst transmission to go on the market. Know that it was a true automatic transmission maybe I’ll consider it but does that come in a manual transmission a word a dime. Maybe for those kids or lazy know if they don’t want to learn how to drive manual transmission cars. Which is 100 hp that’s low standards. Nobody wants a rubber band transmission CVT is help me with most people don’t know about that that’s one reason Nissan has terrible reputation on a transmission
