I don't think any other actor could do a more convincing "painful laughter" scene than Joaquin Phoenix. I mean you can just see that he is trying to stop so many times but can't and he is almost in tears. So good!

I'm a huge fan of Marvel but tbh after watching joker's movie I completely made joker my favorite villain of all time. I'm actually happy that in this generation all the hero's and some villains get their own origin movie and how they started to become what they are today.
People need to understand, this is a different form of Joker. Way way different. Phoenix's Joker is just the new standard for a realistic Joker. More so than Heath's now. It's weird to say Heath's Joker is more comic book than Phoenix's. Overall though Nicholson's my favorite Joker because of the comic book interpretation but I have to say, Phoenix's Joker is probably the best form of Joker in the cinema.
Two truths: DC > Marvel Phoenix > Ledger as Joker...Nicholson is still where you set the bar. Ledger played a damn great character, but only Joaquin and Jack have shown they ARE the Joker through and through in their respective movies!!
The JOKER movie was an outstanding film, the direction and buildup was done in a wonderful way. It rose, then fell and went to 0-100 then back to 0 in minutes of screentime. Definitely a masterpiece, It truly was a dark but realistic take on real world concepts. And that is what made it perfect!
Did you notice how many African-American characters there were in ‘The Joker’? Arthur’s love interest and her daughter, the social worker, the lady on the bus and her young son, the clerk at Arkham, and many of the denizens of Gotham who were dressed like clowns. Black people got a decent amount of numeric representation in the film.
I REALLY want to see more of this Joker. I especially want to see how this story's eventual Batman would interact with him. God that would be something special.

Just seen it. Abaolutely amazing. I agree with everythingyou said. I am more of an action guy and while Dark Knight is my favorite DC movie, Phoenix is my favorite Joker and artistically it's easily at the top of the list. The acting was amazing. He has to get an Oscar. If not, it's highway robbery. It was dark and had dark humor. He nailed that role. And let me say "Bravo to Todd Phillips" absolutely amazing job of directing this. Easily my fave of the year.

Looking at Joaquin's Joker compared to Heath's... Ledgers is more exaggerated (in a good way) and Joaquin's is more of a realistic depiction

I empathised with him to a point, then he just becomes wicked and evil and thats the end of that. But thats perfect. Its Joker.
the point of the movie is to help u understand him in the end. You don't have to empathise with him, just understand him.
Joker was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It addressed so much. Had me looking for for more after the street riot scene, then the director gave me more at the end.

Monaghan is always gonna be my favorite Joker, but really exited for this one.
One of the only movies ever where I just CANT STOP THINKING about it after I already saw it! So so memorable!!!! This will be shown in film schools in the future
