For me, the best thing about this game is that it looked as I thought it should. I was prepared to tell myself that it was okay if they didn't dominate as long as they won, so the fact they did dominate was great. Keeping it in context, it was a team we were literally bigger, faster & stronger than. I will really start to feel good if we look close to this good vs NC ST. I'm most anxious to see how Parker adjusts his calls based on the opponent, AND how well he adjusts when we can't push our opponents around and do whatever we want.

@@paulayersii4881 I’m for sure worried about the defense . Navy ran right down the field in the first drive and if it hadn’t been for two navy receivers running into each other was a wide open throw and catch for a touchdown . To say that was a fluke isn’t true…. as they connected later in the game with another 20+ yard throw… then seeing all the missed tackles brings up memories of last year …. I don’t think the score really reflects anything in this one as the game got away from
Navy not getting any breaks like with the collision and drop … and then not being able to scoop a fumble up from estime … those two plays alone could of changed momentum and the score in this one to make it a closer game

great game. only a few minutes into the stream. One thing I disagree with Tim about is its NOT the same offense as under Rees. It's real similar and what Rees SHOULD have done but its not the same. Rees would always force in both read option and "RPO" style plays which we completely avoided today. These plays haven't worked for ND at all in the last 20 years so I am glad to see that style of offense completely gone. I never had a problem with running Duo. I love duo. My problem was when we would run read option with Pyne instead of just running duo instead. Cost us big (Pyne fumbled) in USC game for example last season.

I'm ok with playing the vets against Navy because of it being Game 1 and their style of play. BUT we need to see Junior T and Sneed in there when we play Ohio State or Clemson. Of course USC, Williams was dancing around our guys on the field last year. The veteran linebackers are great but we will need more speed on the field.

I'm not as worried about "taking the top off the defense" as the hosts are to be honest. We will eat on play action. Merriweather was way behind the defense on Hartmans under / late throw. Gatehouse had them burned on his Touchdown. Thats why I love seeing the power run game. Some say that is conservative but I think its the style of ball that fits our team the best. Power run with play action. All our WRs can get behind the defense if we establish the run. With our Oline being one of the best in the nation and our deep stable of backs we should be able to establish the run on anyone.

I kind of understand the _"Where's Rees"_ comments. Sure, Notre Dame with Pyne put 35 on Navy in the first half. You left out the context of that second half and what Rees did. Navy ran a base scheme in that first half and came out in the second with all out blitz with fire blitz. Rees had no answers with little to no adjustments to what Navy was doing. We beat the crap out of NAVY ( as was expected)
    We have a NFL QB.
We can probably play with anyone in the country.
Last year we lost to marshal and Stanford and Navy ALMOST beat us.
    It's a celebration 🎉😁

ND was dominant. Conservative? No. Efficient? Yes!! Sam is the man, he will only get better as he develops chemistry with his receivers.

YEP take the tie off or wear a jacket. Yes Navy is not of the quality ND is but we still have people make negative comments on ND, nitpicking looking for anything negative , obvious they are not ND fans, wish they would just keep their negative comments to themselves. Look ND will play three teams ranked higher than they are. I am sure those teams are not taking ND lightly, ND can and hopefully will win at least one game against a higher ranked team. So all you experts expressing the doom of ND against ranked teams go ahead bet big money against ND I will be happy to send you a crying towel. If not a ND fan go somewhere else and whimper about another team. I am a proud defender of ND have been since 1960 and always will be. 81 and happy I am still alive to support ND. MKL Retired American living in Philippines for the past 14 years, almost impossible to see ND football here, lucky sometimes ND can be heard on ND radio. Enough said, GO ND.

    1. I HATE the new rule not stopping the clock for first downs! HATE IT. Games go by fast enough already. 2. Dont care what anyone says about Navy they are a fundamentally very sound team- block shedding- tackling- assignment driven. Well coached- just too much IRISH size, speed, weapons. 3. Jordan Bothelo taunting Navy sideline was weak. #GOIRISH

    • @TimHydecoach
      @TimHydecoach 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

A main point for why the game went fast was barely any penalties, and Hartman only had 4 incompletions, so the clock is going to keep moving when guys make catches. It was a very clean game 1.

Singer, don't pull a muscle patting yourself on the back about Quinn.. I don't think many had an issue with his recruiting, he just couldn't coach them. That was the issue.

@@NotreDameFightingIrish Not at all in my book.. I criticized him a lot.. Here's an unpopular take, I don't think he was as great as everyone makes him out to be. I've said that for years. I think he does a great job of "individual" development, but not the line as a whole.

People dunking on Rees, please. This is Navy, with a far superior Quarterback, better O Line and a better reciever room. I'm glad this game went as well as it did, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

You have reading comprehension issues. I said Hartman is like Book if Book could read defenses better. They have similar stature, arm strength and mobility.

good showing by the offense in the opener. need to temper expectations a little considering this was a vastly undersized and inferior opponent. that being said business was taken care of for the most part. what is most concerning to me is the run defense. i said it earlier on that i think teams are going to run the ball down our throats and if this game is any indication we are going to be in for a long season. i don't quite understand golden's schemes and play calling. the reality of it is we lack elite athleticism in the front seven and that is going to be exposed against the better teams. hartman is a major upgrade obviously. his experience alone is invaluable. they need to work on the deep ball in practice he needs to develop a better rapport and timing with his deep guys. after seeing his tape i said in the off season that Greathouse has day one ability and sure enough that kid showed why he has all american potential. he has very good hands, is strong at the point, and has that innate ability to get open. thomas is a mis match and i'm glad they are making him the focal point. we need to feed that guy. i'm not sure about that 5-6 back by committee approach but hey it worked in this game. all in all a solid showing. the team did what was expected of them. i wish freeman would have pulled hartman earlier because we are gonna need him healthy for the entire season. things can only get better offensively as hartman develops a connection with his skill guys. there is reason to be optimistic this season. the schedule is brutal but we have the team that can compete with the best of them.
