I'm hearing good things about this one from a few people. It's one of the books on the long list that I can actually get easily here but I much prefer the UK cover so...🤔 I'm glad to hear that it's a bit darker than expected because that makes it more appealing to me. Ok I’m convinced. I DNF’d TBQ for one reason. That was the use of Indian words or slang with no parenthetical definitions. Maybe I’m just not bright enough to read through the lines. Anyway I’m going to try again! Especially if it makes the short list. Thanks for the review!
Great review of this book Gemma. I finished this recently and loved it also. The author did a fantastic job of tackling some hard topics through the use of humour. It was a risky move but I think she hit the nail on the head. The balance was just right and I too hope this one makes the Shortlist. It more than deserves a place in my humble opinion. 😊

The same slang comes up multiple times throughout the book, so you definitely get more of a feel for it as you go through.

The Bandit Queens was a good read. It’s not gonna be an all time fave but I would re-read it and check out other work by the author.
I’m really excited to see what Shroff does next.
