    Back in the late 90’s early 2000’s I’d go here to buy video games at Electronic Boutique and Anime at Suncoast video. Man those were the days

    Glad to see you back with another great informative video! I hope they can at least develop the exisiting parking lots for some housing (especially that empty portion near the old Carsons). Can't wait for any future videos!

    Glad you filmed this. I always enjoy your commentary. A mall out in Iowa was Washington Prime Group and went to Kohan. I know Namdar hasn't done well in Iowa either.
    Hoping for the best.

      Namdar *may* be trying to improve its reputation. Earlier this year they bought two high-occupancy malls in CT and NY from Westfield for a substantial price.

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta ปีที่แล้ว

      @@R32R38 They paid $196 million, for Trumbull and South Shore for the record. They also bought Louis Joliet more recently(not sure for how much money), which was still doing well when I visited last September.

      @@BoratWanksta I haven't been to Trumbull in 15+ years but as I understand it the mall's doing reasonably well. There's an issue with a deteriorating parking deck that will be costly to fix, and no doubt Namdar took the cost of the future repairs in setting the price it paid Westfield.
      South Shore is semi-local to me and once again appears to be in good shape. It has a low vacancy rate and one plus is a large and thriving food court. One flaw is that there is a rather higher percentage of local tenants vs. national chains than mall operators prefer, but it's not at a dangerous level yet.
      Both malls have vacant Lord & Taylor stores, but of course they're hardly to blame for that. In any event L&T was an odd anchor for South Shore, which attracts many lower-income shoppers.

    I went to this mall in May of 2022 and it was fairly busy. I honestly think that to many malls were built in the Chicago area. Like, near Lincolnwood there is golf mill, old orchard, Northbrook Court, Hawthorn, and Gurnee mills. That is a crazy amount of malls for the area.

    For this mall, when I visited for my first time they still had the neon on (that isn’t used anymore) but it was doing better then. Also for a different mall in the Chicago area, Louis Joliet mall is now owned by the same owners as Stratford square (namdar).

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta ปีที่แล้ว

      Lincolnwood has been doing alright as a mall for years, but to me it is obvious too many malls were green lighted to be built in the Chicago area. No doubt it has had to more turn towards non-traditional tenants, in more recent years. Especially since it lost Carson's. Before Carson's closing, I'd say this mall was doing a little better. Still this mall could be doing much worser, i.e. Northfield Square(where NO anchors or junior anchors are left there, except for a Cinemark theater), Stratford, and Spring Hill. And I know you and me both know the latter 2 malls have struggled for a long time, Stratford slightly more so. But both malls still are doing much worser, than Lincolnwood.

  • @BoratWanksta
    @BoratWanksta ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ah yes, my local mall. I do have no doubt the existence of other malls(cough Old Orchard), is why this mall could only attract certain chains(i.e. PacSun, Aeropostale) years ago, but not others to it(i.e. Hollister, American Eagle, etc).
    That said, I'd say other malls are in worser shape than Lincolnwood, such as Spring Hill, Northfield(near Kankakee), and especially Stratford Square. If you walked through its food court(which didn't appear to show up on your video), the food court here is mostly full, and it even has a location of the Korean chicken place Choong Man(CM) Chicken. So I wouldn't say it is totally dead. This mall even managed to get a mom and pop pizza place to take over Villa Pizza, so I don't think that's a bad move if you ask me. Also I walked through this mall last December, and to my surprise it was actually a lot more full of shoppers than one might think at first glance. There was a long line of parents and kids, waiting to talk to Santa inside the center court!
    I really hope they don't 100% demall Lincolnwood. Just because other places demalled their malls(i.e. College Hills in Normal, IL, Machesney Park in the Rockford area, Randhurst in Mount Prospect, btw if you ever visit Randhurst Village you can see a lot of vacancies there to this day), doesn't mean it needs to happen to Lincolnwood as well. Sure if the parking lots are partially redeveloped with a lifestyle type of redevelopment that wouldn't be the end of the world(a la what Yorktown Center did near where H&M is), but I'm COMPLETELY OPPOSED to a 100% demalling of the mall structure. I really hope the mall owner and the village of Lincolnwood try to incorporate as much of the mall building as possible, into any kind of redevelopment.

    Another nice docu as usual!
    Do you see Woodfield eventually hopping on this bandwagon as well with the vacant Lord & Taylor space despite Streets of Woodfield being right next door?

    • @LostDepartments
      @LostDepartments  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really with the Lord and Taylor store since it is kind of built into the mall and parking garage. They are doing something with the old Motorola Campus though, I don't think they're not focusing on Woodfield yet.

    • @ProspectElevators
      @ProspectElevators ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LostDepartments Got ya, the Sears space probably has a better chance than Lord and Taylor but even then, I've heard plans on simply subdividing the building instead of tearing it down entirely

      @@ProspectElevators I was at Woodfield last week and noticed that Primark is taking over the upper level. They also have Enterreum Place that limits demolishing the building.

    They missed out by not opening up a movie theater that was always rumored.
    This mall was destroyed once Walmart opened up the street. They need to spruce it up or shut her down for good.

    You did fail to mention the massive redevelopment happening at Northbrook Court. If you haven’t researched what’s happening in the current day, they will be adding outdoor luxury shopping & dining in the Neiman Marcus parking lot. After that phase, Macys will become housing, and strictly housing only. No more grocery’s and what it was going to be. After that, if ALL GOES AS PLANNED, which there is a extremely high chance it won’t, the mall could potentially be demolished for an expanded redevelopment. But the demolishing is if the property is such success as presented to be. The future of the mall is up to Brookfield.

    • @LostDepartments
      @LostDepartments  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Northbrook is on my watchlist. The biggest problem is that it's always crawling with security thanks to the luxury stores that remain there.

    It appears that Louis Joliet Mall in Joliet has been bought by Namdar so god knows whats gonna happen to that mall in the future. Its at 92% occupancy too

    Also, while these "walkable communities" are all the rage, I can't think of any successful examples.

    • @LostDepartments
      @LostDepartments  ปีที่แล้ว

      - The Glen Town Center in Glenview
      - Bayshore Town Center in Bayshore, WI
      - Downtown Westminster in Westminster CO which is being built on the site of a former Indoor Mall.
      - Downtown Areas where many people are moving.
      Many people in my circle of younger people frequently talk about wanting to live in places where they have some freedom to walk some places. While cars are inescapable in our society, living somewhere one could walk without driving like an old downtown is very appealing. For towns that have these malls, it is an opportunity to create more value in the land while making their communities more desirable. At least kind of like how old downtowns were built before.
