  • What started out as a fun and demonstrative climb quickly turned into a frustrating time trying to beat sundown while my Captain Hook was stuck in the tree. This was a beautiful day to climb a big Bur Oak despite the hard time I had. Let's not forget how fricken sweet that SAKA is!

    Have you ever struggled on a climb? Tell me about! Sometimes the tough climbs are the ones you learn the most from.

    I've had my share of bad climbs but I always remember the first time was so much harder. I feel like I have grown lol. Stay Safe on the ground and the canopy.

    Ok. Right at the 10:01 mark. Ive not seen anyone do that before. I have a similar technique. I dont have a captains hook but I will tie a throw weight on to an extra length of rope and put a blakes hitch on it. I like that you threw a hitch cord on the slack of your blue moon. Do you have other videos that show this technique a little better? Or know where I can find more about this?

      So at that marker I just used a throw bag tied to the end of my line so that I could toss my tail over a limb. Then I anchor the end of my line to a biner and used my hitch chord & pulley to create a second climbing system on the end of my SRS/SRT system. I've carried a second line with me in the past, but I used the end of my rope since I was in a pinch.
      I'll keep this in mind for a video to demonstrate this for a future video!

    Really like your 2-throw TIP/redirect method, I'd never seen that before, definitely gonna use that on big sprawling canopy from now on! Seems WAAYYYY easier vs. how I've always done it!

    • @CaseySnyder
      @CaseySnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you liked it! It's a good way to set up in a big climb, especially if you have a full canopy to move through!

    IDK if I have ever sympathized more with a TH-cam moment than when you said "fuck this stub!" 😂

    that SAKA looks great .....i have had my fair share of struggles, just the other day we had 2 big beautiful silver maples to deadwood and honestly they were fairly easy climbs but i was having one of those days.....i wanted to use/play with my spider jack 3 so i was climbing DRT and i literally couldn't do anything right... Sometimes I feel like the tree gods are smiling down on me but sometimes I think there just plain out laughing...... But either way it's still OK to be human
    stay safe stay healthy

      This was definitely one of those days were all seemed to be perfect until it wasn't. Even to do I had a hell of a struggle with my throwline and thought I might as well pack it up. Thanks for watch man.

    Yeah, whether the weather is 50* or not in MN the wind & early sunrise never helps. I'm a DRT or MRS guy & I can't wait to try out my new Petzyl Ascender & my other new items like the DMM Eccentric & DMM Pinto with a Spacer on it. Planning on using the Pinto as a redirect.

    • @CaseySnyder
      @CaseySnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That pinto is going to work great for you! I use one on my lanyard and have thought about buying another one for an MRS redirect! Thanks for checking out my video!

    • @josephtreadlightly5686
      @josephtreadlightly5686 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaseySnyder Yeah, tough being here in MN. I bought the Pinto mainly for a re-direct.

    • @josephtreadlightly5686
      @josephtreadlightly5686 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaseySnyder I bought the spacer for the Pinto so I didn't have to hook the oval DMM Oval into it for the redirect. Not really sure what to use on that application but I want to be able to do it with some kind of wrap system with a prusik eye & eye.

    Good video. I usually get my throw bag stuck and have to go rescue it.

    Any climb it a good climb even if it goes a little bad it teaches you something. I’ve been in similar situations practicing climbing in the woods an very nearly loosing all light, gets pretty spooky out there on your own cool tho and probably kinda stupid climbing alone but that’s how I learned mostly.

    Without a doubt about the hard climbs. I use a big box with wheels. Richard is a true innovator in our line of work. I dont miss the winters up there. Climbing MRS on proper trims. Live Oaks are massive. I hate they screwed with the terminology...srt...drt....that was simple enough. I try and tell everyone the new SRS...MRS stuff though.

    • @CaseySnyder
      @CaseySnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, I'm not such a stickler for the terminology, but I do get that it's a moving rope system and not truly a "double" rope system. Same with SRS/SRT. In the end we all are doing the same thing and kicking ass. Thanks Dan.

    Ah... Captain Hook. Nothing beats beating that thing loose from that perfect looking hooking point with your palm in darkness. Your will to live faded with the sun and that tightly wedged shitty piece of shit wont even budge. Good times.

    I just carry two zig zags and use double line on both... i think that set up beats this one

    • @CaseySnyder

      The price ends up being the same and is probably less likely to get stuck so it seems like a good alternative!

    Some may beg to differ, but not all four letter words are “COOL”. They’re out of place in a class act. “Don’t coil your throw line”. On the other hand, if you were born Italian, every other word has four letters lol.
