    im a dual combo - i use Alpine Moto Safe Pro earplugs and in helmet comms / speakers. I run the black "Tour" earplugs which are the lower level earplug whichgive a 17 dB attenuation (compared to the red "race" ones which do 20db). If i wear the red you can tell the few DB difference mainly in having a convo when stopped etc. This dulls the wind noise and all noise but still allows you to hear comms / music and can leave them in even when stopping for lunch and still have convos. As you mentioned i then need music on full volume to get a decent listen but i find overall it works well as protecting ears and reducing those "helmet headaches" from the noise while still allowing comms and conversation.

      im using racing version now and no regrets, give me all silencing in the world, the more the better lol ; i can still hear sirens etc, but for longer than 3min stops i take them out.
      You can have convo with them in ears, but only without helmet. Plugs+helmet and u almost deaf for convo purposes ;
      So for like refueling at gas station just taking helmet off work well enough for me .
      They do kinda get loose with time, so every 2-3hours i need to take them out and in again, but i always have break in that time anyway to take them out so no big issue.
      theres always big 'relief' feeling after longer ride when i take them out, like getting back to reality and having hearing back ;

    OHHH a resounding YES on the earbuds. Got my music going and if on a long slab run google maps going for the speed trap warnings. Nothing like riding motorcycles and jamming to AC/DC. Just an American viewpoint, each to their own. 😂🏍

    I started wearing foam earbuds because at speed the speakers built into my helmet had to be turned up full, which is awfully loud at a red light. Earbuds actually made it a better experience blocking out wind noise whilst still hearing the music. I used to only use the speakers on a boring highway ride but now I don't use them at all. Just me and the bike once the helmet goes on. I can't imagine talking to people while riding, but that's just me.

    Great topic. I don't use ear buds, I prefer to focus on the adventure. Plus, I have never liked anything sticking in my ear. So, when needed, I use over the ear head sets. Adding speakers in your helmet is just asking for hearing damage.

      @MickH60 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      John, i thought the same, the first time I wore them, within half an hour, i totally forgot I had them in and they cut out all the droning from the wind on the highway and I could still hear everything else.... I have bad tinnitus and really need to wear ear protection, I should have been doing it years ago. Speakers in your helmet will only damage your hearing if they are too loud, being as close to your ears as they are, they don't need to be loud, you can still hear the music with ear protection in as well, I know this because I'm a musician that worked live for years, that's how I got tinnitus in the first place, no ear protection. I always assumed i wouldn't be able to hear the guitar properly, I was wrong.....

    i use dedicated alpine moto ear plug racing version and im pretty happy with them other than they a little too big for my ear, they should have different sizes, but they silence wind and other low frequency noises very well.
    I cant imagine listening to music during ride, especially offroad when im 100% mentally focused. Maybe on some boring road travel when theres no traffic and its mostly straight roads id be fine but still, never practiced that. But if someone can do it and still be very focused on road it doesnt bother me.

    Custom moulded earplugs are fantastic. Very comfortable, block out wind noise and offer great sound reproduction for music or speech. I found with in he,met speakers you had to crank the volume super high to hear them over wind noise causing both distortion and likely damage to your ears over the long term, where as with moulded ear plugs you can have the volume at normal levels and hear everything perfectly. I use Noiseguard, an Aussie. Fans, but I’m sure there are many more.

    I use to run samsung ear buds but as you said got sick of the treasure hunt every time you take your helmet off so after I dropped one in to a puddle 🙄 I went and bought a set of Sony WI-C100 in ear head phones and they are really good they have a cable between left and right so theres safety string and the bits that go in to your ears a very small profile so easier getting your helmet on/off, sound and battery is really good too.

    It depends on what I'm doing but I like the Oxford filterbuds ear plugs when running around town and short runs down the highway. They take away a huge amount of wind noise and they don't stop the good sounds of my bike. Long trips I'll just throw in my blue tooth buds but lately it's mostly just been the Oxfords .

I can hear the bike, whatever’s coming through my speakers, but I get very little wind noise all the way up to 80-90mph. Highly recommend Earpeace ear plugs. Shure aonic 215 with shures cable (tye Bluetooth moduels are too big to comfortably fit under a helmet. Shure claim 37db passive attenation from the foam tips. Way quieter than any ANC!!! And as good as most foam ear plugs.
    Shure quality music right in your ears with wind noise blocked out! The cable wraps up over the ears and really helps keep them in place. The buds as so small it’s easy enough to get the helmet on and off, don’t fall on the ground when removing your helmet. Comfortable enough for all day use. Don’t have to worry about flat batteries cause your anc to not work. The 3.5mm plug just plugs into the 3.5mm jack on my Cardo packtalk bold. By far the best solution I’ve tried in over 20th are if adv riding!

      The laws are stupid and antiquated.
      Whilst the manufacturers are adding more sound deadening to vehicles, more distracting screens, and amphitheater levels of stereo systems inside vehicles, they don't accommodate how loud wind can be while on a motorcycle at speed, that 90% of the noise is only a hindrance and not a help for situational awareness, also easily compounds fatigue and inattention over time.

    Yeah, I agree with how you wear them, sort of. I actually wear Beeswax earplugs, and listen to music via my Comms device, through the plugs, You need to have it cranked up, but it works. Have the music on, on the transport sections, off when you're in the bush, just to remove any distraction they may provide, you need to be concentrating 100%, watching for that earbud wearing motorcyclist coming the other way, riding too fast listening to their favourite song. 😂. I think L and P platers should ride for a few more years without them, after they get their license, while they're still green .
