    • @RobDahm

      Multiple maps and selectable on the fly... that ecu is SICK!

    • @SterlingRyan
      @SterlingRyan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +163

      @@RobDahm R5 can do a lot more than you will ever need hopefully its better to over build and not utilize it 100% than underbuild and use 110%, I know on my Elite 2500 we have it set up to where I can put 87 in and it will pull timing and boost keeping the car safe from knock on bad fuel but if you throw in some e90 and fill the water meth, the ECU knows the octane rating (flex fuel) as well as the level in the meth tank and will put in more ignition and boost blending the maps together keeping it basically stupid proof. Gotta love having all the inputs and outputs as well as safeties.

    • @RobDahm
      @RobDahm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +204

      Sterling you are so right. The amount of programming i can do to the ECU is jaw dropping. Its so customizable you definitely need a plan or goal before jumping into it. When you hear the car breaking up, haltech found that i enabled rally style antilag while testing features. Completely forgot about it haha. But its impressive what all it can do!

    • @SterlingRyan
      @SterlingRyan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +93

      @@RobDahm Definitely especially running a rotary, most people don't realize that exactly how many inputs and outputs you need. In your case with the sheer amount of injectors, ignition and sensors you would saturate 90% of ecus out there and would probably have to use 2 2500s from haltech to run the engine properly. The r5 was by far the best choice for the build. Cant wait to see you dive further into it and squeeze all the potential you can out of it. The boys over at Haltech are gems have had multiple hour long conversations over the phone brainstorming ways to use their ecus as well as troubleshooting.

    That smile, excitement, and happiness emanating from you after that first lap brought me to tears man. It's a dream of mine to build a car worthy of passing down and being proud of. This jsut took me back to the days of wrenching with my family and friends and trying to build better. This is the motivation I needed to finally build a k powered beast our of my ek hatch. Keep up the awesome content.

There are people who have less complicated and cutting edge cars who have entire teams out there wrenching. If you ever saw that car at first and didn't know you'd think it was built by a bunch of engineers. Nah just a couple of dudes in a garage. looks like youre hitting the bumpstops, so going with stiffer springs or a "stiffer" exchange ratio on the suspension arms would help with going around corners and not tearing the jack points down.
    also, its a bit hard to tell but it looks like theres positive camber in the rear which i dont recommend unless youre exclusively drifting.

    • @Mawson6492
      @Mawson6492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      He also mentioned in recent videos that the suspension is currently "falling rate", meaning the more it compresses, the softer it gets. Not ideal! I imagine that's on the list to revise.

    Fell in love with the rotary back in 1974 riding 160 miles round trip everyday up Iron Mountain leaving Birmingham, and every back road we could take to cut time back and forth each day in his 1974 RX 3 wagon.
    Nothing like the pop in-between gears as it accelerated up through the gears.
    Amazing that we survived those days flying around the mountain back roads curves on the old ancient technology skinny tires it rode on.
    Especially at the speeds that little wagon was capable if you kept her rpms twisted up tight at upper end of the power band.
    Never a boring ride back during those days, not even if it was a little damp out.
    Luckily once over the mountain, the traffic that there was, was going opposite direction so wide open in front of us going, are coming back.
    Once we headed off the beaten path most took, rpms went to the red line, and let the fun begin.
    Ever seen a rock retaining wall built by the chain gangs of the 1920's and 30's a foot from your side of the car doing 80 around curves built for model T's, and the likes that had a top speed of maybe 35 on the straight aways.
    I have, and remember it like yesterday, even though I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.
    Yeah nothing like this RX7's that came later on, but then they weren't station wagons either were they. {;^€)~

    Let me just say you’re the most genuine and humble TH-camr I have ever met. I went up to get a picture with you on the last day (Sunday) while you were walking back from the pits. You were more then happy too and also engaged in conversation (unlike almost every other TH-camr). You talked to my friend and I as if we weren’t your fans, but as if we were your friends. You went very deep into detail on how the car had improved over the weekend, which was really cool and not something you usually get from famous people. Not to mention your mood, I swear you were smiling and upbeat the whole entire weekend. Really an amazing car to see in person, video does it absolutely zero justice, it is ear piercing, and those pops between shifts rattle your entire chest. Thanks for being such a cool guy!
