      Nick, I'm a subscriber and a solid fan of yours, but unless things have DRASTICALLY taken a bad turn since I was in Pikeville (on business 5 years ago for a WTE company), I found the city to be very scenic and somewhat of a gem. As a college town, the University of Pikeville offers a medical school, plus there's a regional convention center that holds diverse events that brings in good revenues for the city as well. I'm not saying drugs aren't an issue there, but I guess it seemed as though you didn't highlight Pikeville's good attributes and VERY interesting physical history of the city, as well.
      Again, all in all I think you do a great job with your videos, just thought you may have misjudged Pikeville a bit :)

    Can't believe people says that Ky is boring!! Live in a rural area and there is plenty to do!! Watch cows and horses quietly graze the beautiful pastures, go to the lakes and all the beautiful parks! Sit on the porch and just listen to the sounds of a quiet country life!! Watch the birds, turkeys, deer and other wildlife anytime anyday!! Not all about hearing sirens all day and all night, it's more about living in peace and quiet, visiting with neighbors and friends, That is the Ky I live in and love every minute!!

    That’s definitely not the worst places to live in Kentucky. Somerset is one of the top rising cities in the state. People come from other towns to Somerset to shop and eat. I’ve been all over the state and lived in Kentucky my entire life. When I flew into Lexington from being out west I remember how beautiful and green it was from the sky. I was so happy to be home. Kentucky is a great place to live. I wouldn’t live anywhere else. There is poverty everywhere but its not like people make it out to be. It’s just friendly, hard working people.

    You showed an entire portion of “Somerset” that was actually annexed into Burnside. There’s a culinary school there and plenty of restaurants. And all the pictures you showed are only out skirt pictures. If you’ve been to Somerset, Ky, then you know that most of the social life is centered around the strip of Somerset where there’s plenty of stores and downtown where they have the car show every year and plenty of other events and nice dine in restaurants. Not to mention the expansive community college in the middle of town that has bridge programs with multiple universities.

    • @seanbrando_7456
      @seanbrando_7456 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Somerset is a booming little place in the middle, (on the strip) and there is more culture than you think. The problem is the cops do the bare minimum or are on the take. If you are smart and willing to work it is a killer place to live. GREAT Mexican food on the strip just off highway 27. Tons of other places to eat also but they could use a better mall and more nightlife. They're are clubs and bars with live music though....at least 10. They could use better cops, a bigger skate park and a decent concert arena. With a few more factories and those things it would be a lot like Lexington in a way.

The people are super kind, the cost of living is very affordable, and I'm surrounded by beautiful hills. I'm a 5 minute drive from Ohio, and about another 10-15 from West Virginia. The Tri-State area is one of the best places to be in Appalachia. We have plenty of restaurants and all the businesses we need to thrive here. Living here has been pleasant not only for me but for my family as well. The border line to Tennessee is about 15 minutes from my home, thus it's been also cool living under a some kind of blended Kentuckian-Tennesseean environment. Sadly, there is a drug problem. Many of the locals blame the easy access of chemicals due to the number of farmers that have to treat their fields. Mammoth Cave is a pretty cool place to visit. For anyone curious, the best cities to live in, 1, 2,4, and 5 are all located within 9 miles of me. Where am I located? Northern Kentucky, right across the river from Cincinnati. Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati share many aspects of the same economy. There are plentiful bars, stores, touristy areas with a ton of bourbon trails, and there are different flavors of neighborhoods to hang out in with many culinary wonders nearby as well. While there are very beautiful wildlife areas further south in the state, my corner of KY is by far the best and it shows! It is more expensive to purchase a house up here, just keep that in mind. Oh, and if you do decide to check out my corner of paradise, DO NOT BRING ANY TROUBLE, we all conceal carry around these parts and Kentucky has no "duty to retreat" laws on the books. Good city school, a university, lots of businesses, and a pretty big hospital/healthcare presence. Of course, I said DOWNTOWN. It quickly shifts back to a more typical Appalachia leave the city limits. It can get rough, but the city and a majority of the surrounding area is nice and home to good people.

    Take it from someone who grew up in KY, the eastern part of the state is rural and full of really hard working good people that would give you the shirt off the back. Yeah it's not the hustle and bustle of the city and not too many opportunities to work unless you know a trade or something. Lexington and the surrounding areas is full of work and some of the best restaurants in the whole Midwest. Western part more of similar to the east without the mountains and hills. Cost of living isn't too bad at all and if you are not like this guy and would like to get some land and live in the country then Kentucky is 1 of the best states in America. Yeah there is crime and gangs in the cities but that's everywhere.

Sure the population withing the city limits is about 12k but the county population surrounding it is 65-70k. The photos you show are not the heart of the community. There is good shopping and dining here. Granted, agriculture is the primary economic driver her but there are plentiful healthcare, retail, manufacturing, education, tourism and tech (although less numerous) jobs as well. The area is also a retirement and water sports haven due to the presence of Lake Cumberland. (9th largest lake in the US). Most people I know who want (key word) work here are employeed. The cost of living is realtively low compared to the national average. The people are friendly. I think the picture you presented may be a bit superficial.

    Lexington KY is great place to live for family or singles, lots of jobs, opportunities, a lot to do & great food & people! You can be in the country within mins, there is a lot of big cities close by, hiking, camping & fishing if you're into that. Lastly, we have the best bourbon, breweries & trails & gorgeous sunsets, highly recommend visiting!

    Nick, Mayfield KY is a amazing town! How can you say that Mayfield is the 2nd worst town to live in because of a tornado? This town is trying it's best to rebuild and move forward. There is tons of other jobs in the area too other than the candle factory. The crime is low, the income of the area is normal for the country average. My parents moved there about 10 years ago and I can't wait to retire and move there myself!!! The people are amazing and very resilient especially after a devastating natural disaster!! You should give a lot more thought about your opinion of what makes a town bad!

      Glad to have read your comment. I think Nick does a good job qualifying his opinions, especially with an emphasis on how "a few people", in any location, making it bad for "everyone else." And he rightly falls back on the stats he has available.
      To your point, I like better his vids when he sits down one-on-one with a resident and asks questions. He very probably would've found out from a Mayfield resident exactly what you're countering here.

    • @Prow91
      @Prow91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He’s not saying it’s a bad place to live because of the tornado, he just mentioned the tornado. He goes of statistics that anyone can look up online. Crime, poverty, unemployment school drop out rate and many other statistics. Has nothing to do with the mayfield tornado. I’ve never lived there but I’ve been to mayfield many times and I’ve always lived in Kentucky, it’s a great city, but all towns have their downfalls. He uses middle sized cities for the most part in these type of videos so don’t be offended. He’s just using the data that’s available to everyone online.

Gotta say, wouldn't wanna live in Memphis, Detroit, Little Rock, L.A., Seattle, Kansas City, Cleveland, etc., etc........Good people, STAY STRONG!!!

      Houseboats are taxed too. My neighbor has a new pontoon boat. Last year he couldn't take it out onto a lake because he couldn't afford to pay the taxes on it, and no, I'm not talking about the registration, I'm talking about property tax!

    Nick, would you rather work a job that pays well but consumes most of your time(50-70)hours a week. Or would you rather work a lower paying part time job(just barely scraping by,but getting by), but gives you so much more time to yourself? TIME or MONEY? Think about it, before you answer, cause we sure are living in the TWILIGHT ZONE ☝🏻😌

    Love the 1980s CBS movie intro music in the intro!
    I have plenty of family in Mayfield. Economic opportunity is sparse there, and there are few white-collar jobs. Most employment comes from general businesses, factories, schools, farms, and the hospital there (which my family regards as a place where you go to die). I have heard that the schools there pay less than other area school districts as well.
    Tobacco farming, especially dark-fired tobacco, still occurs around Mayfield, but the system of selling tobacco at loose-leaf floors has faded away in favor of farmers directly supplying companies.

    Use to live in Louisiana. Moved to Kentucky 5 years ago. I love it here. The people are so nice. Yes i love Louisiana but the poor are left for themselves. There is hardly any place you are safe. Inless you are in the higher income parts of town. Jobs are hard to find and the cost of food and living is super high. The only thing i miss about it is the food. I love where i live now. Kentucky is my home. Food is cheaper well was until lately. When i moved here milk was a dollar. Now it cost the same it did in Louisiana.
