I remember driving home from a gig on a snowy night. The landscape was beautiful, all white and sparkling and the roads empty at 2 am. I put this album on and formed a memory that will stay with me forever. Pure musical perfection and nature at her most beautiful.

Was instantly one of my favorites when it was released in 1980. You can hear the Bee Gees style in it. Just amazing stuff. Barbara did the right thing making that call to Barry to ask them to write her some songs. Magical.
What a beautiful catchy haunting melody! The lyrics are somewhat vague and misty and borderline psychedelic but hey, they work. Let's start with the amazing lush orchestration: Soaring string, electric piano, gentle riff, soft woozy guitars, drums, French horn and violin all blend seamlessly and beautifully. Her voice has never sounded so clear and angelic as it beautifully conveys that dramatic passion and emotion needed. Add to this, Barry Gibbs' subtle backing vocals as well as that incredible note Streisand holds for an absurd length of time at 2:25 which is remarkable. No wonder it went number one in over 23 countries back in 1980!
The Bee Gees also wrote 'Heartbreaker' for Dionne Warwick, 'Woman In Love'- Barbara Streisand, 'Grease'- Frankie Valli, and 'Islands In The Stream' for Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton. Those last two went to #1.
And one of her least favorites...heard / read that she really doesn't like this song / the lyrics. Actually detests the overall theme and being written by a man (Barry) and the liberal she is. Though, I'm sure she's happy with all the money she's earned from it.

It's April 2023 and I STILL love this song! I remember this when I was about 12 years old and appreciating it even then as a young girl. Barbara's voice is crystal clear, melodic and magic.

She is a really nice person. When I was still in pigtails and middy tops, my sister, cousin and I used to wear our aunt's blouses, stocking gloves and sing her songs on hairbrushes! We used to do "shows" singing Barbra's songs, also some Dionne Warwick, a lot of Mary Wells and Diana Ross... Lots of Gladys Knight and Donna Summer. Such beautiful, wholesome times! Its too bad that today's kids do not have that imagination and sense of wonder. They prefer cheap filth.

Was instantly one of my favorites when it was released in 1980. You can hear the Bee Gees style in it. Just amazing stuff. Barbara did the right thing making that call to Barry to ask them to write her some songs. Magical.

What a beautiful catchy haunting melody! The lyrics are somewhat vague and misty and borderline psychedelic but hey, they work. Let's start with the amazing lush orchestration: Soaring string, electric piano, gentle riff, soft woozy guitars, drums, French horn and violin all blend seamlessly and beautifully. Her voice has never sounded so clear and angelic as it beautifully conveys that dramatic passion and emotion needed. Add to this, Barry Gibbs' subtle backing vocals as well as that incredible note Streisand holds for an absurd length of time at 2:25 which is remarkable. No wonder it went number one in over 23 countries back in 1980!
