I have had this Rapidfire from 1994 and I am still using it. I had a set of those original butane canisters that I finally ran out of a few years ago...lol...it's an excellent stove that has seen service all around the US and Canada over the last 27 years on backpacking and motorcycle camping trips.
The Rapidfire is absolutely designed to be run in liquid feed mode. That is the entire point of the Rapidfire, and the MSR literature for the stove makes that perfectly clear.
I bought mine back in 1992 with the service kit and an MSR 1.1L pot. I’d seen guys not pump their Whisperlite bottles enough and watched the 3ft flame that results when the stove is lit and chuckled whilst I adjusted my Rapidfire between thumb and forefinger. Never had a problem. The internet tells me they were discontinued around 2001.
Manufacturing ceased due to failures of the o-ring that sealed the valve to the fuel canister. A customer service agent at MSR told me that when I called them in need of a new o-ring.
Excellent information thank you for sharing. I didn't know that. After shooting this video I got to thinking that the Rapidfire and Windpro were both eventually replaced with the whisperlite universal
Thanks for the video! I remember being sad when I saw the windpro did away with this sexy msr legs. Alas now even the whisperlite universal has gone away from them!
I use the Whisperlite Universal that does all the liquid fuels as well as canisters. Gives a ton of flexibility. Though for canisters I prefer using the Pocket Rocket Deluxe most of the time.
Should have watched this before trying to figure out how to operate on my own. Mine doesn't have a manual with it so I appreciate you. Luckily I didn't burn anything down
I’ve always seen GSI products throughout the years but I have no experience with them, and in a competitive market there’s plenty of other top notch stoves but I’m wondering if you have any opinions on the GSI Pinnacle? Says 4 season but I’m assuming that’s simply because you can flip the isobutane canister. Looks pretty cool. 5.76 oz. can’t go wrong with MSR that’s for sure but as a fellow stove junky.
There is a place in Keswick UK that has the replacement o-rings that push against the canister. Jiujitsu, how do you replace the other O-ring and where can you get that size one?
Thank you. I don't know what size they are. I went to my local hardware store and eyeballed them. I found one that was close and bought a few. Got home and they worked great! :-)
I’m very interested in paying you to copy your user manual and sending a copy to me in an email. My late husband had the Rapidfire in his hunting gear. I don’t think he ever used it. I’d like to try. Julie
This is a great stove but really isn't supported by MSR anymore. They won't even provide you wiht an owner's manual or O-rings. I purchased one of these and a Simmerlite many years ago.

Great job .....the coverage of the "O" rings is just what I needed....thanks!

I bought one off of Ebay because of your video! Great information and a really good stove. Thanks for the videos

I've been thinking about looking into getting one of the international versions I like the fact that it burns multiple fuels
I'm about 90% sure the flat milled on the pin is to allow gas to flow through more readily.

I've found that adding a bit of silicone grease to the o-ring solves any problems.

The whisperlite universal is one of the best stoves I've seen
Thanks so much! I totally forgot how to use the RapidFire. Looking forward to sparking it up in a couple of days. Very informative vdeo!
Thank you, this is an excellent stove!
Thanks for the info. Need to look for one of these stoves.

Thank you, for a brilliant informative and helpful video.
Awesome looking stove.
MSR makes great stoves, I have one of their MSR Whisperlite Universal Stoves and use Ethanol free gasoline
Thank you for the video. I would like to see a video comparison if possible of the MSR
VS Soto Muka stove

Thank you for the video, do you know what size O rings are needed? I have one of these stoves but having issues with leaking fuel.

When I open up the fuel valve on mine, there is no fuel going to the burner. What might be causing this?
Is it possible to put the white gas jet (UG jet) in this stove and run it off gasoline?
Hmmmmmmm... let me look into this
Great full
Since it’s identical it’s different... what?
I agree sometimes I forget how to talk when I'm filming... lol

MSR was pathetic and no help with my stove (and cryptic).
My fuel canister valve is sideways on the line so the canister cannot sit upright. How can I fix this?
