I'm so grateful to live in the era where you can learn almost everything without going to college❤ thanks for this gold tutorial sir🙏God bless you
Simply the best charcoal tutorial on TH-cam.
How very kind of you to post this video Mr Chen. Thank you so much, it will be extremely helpful to everyone watching it.
This I think may be the clearest instruction how to correctly do portrait drawing. This video is pure gold.
Thanks :)
I agree, and I think I just found my new medium!
WOW, So Beautiful drawing, congratulations, Wishing you more and more success, Best regards 💜
Very good and usefull tutorial👏👏👌👍
YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER
Mesmerizing video...something like two-dimensional sculpting.
This is just great educational from a real artist 👨🎤
Thanks Alex.
@10:28 "Again, you don't have to do exactly what the photo reference [is] giving you." I agree totally with the master. This is what makes it art; it's your interpretation of the reference or subject. It's also what makes it enjoyable and interesting.
Whoa! I wouldn't have let that hideous Halloween-lit picture out of my house! Overhead lighting, up the nostril view and grim hostile expression; the photo would win a contest for making every possible mistake. You did a great rescue on this dreadful shot and it was a pleasure to watch the magic appear out of a film disaster.
Brilliant tutorial ! What i learnt here i didnt learn in all my art classes
Thank you for that clear explanation of drawing with charcoal , and actually portraits with any medium . I learned a lot .
I've just celebrated my 70th birthday and decided that I'd take up golf and find out whether there's any truth in my belief that I'm not artistic or creative and that I can't draw. I've trawled TH-cam looking for tutorials and stumbled upon this this afternoon. This man's a genius. I'm so envious of Yong Chen's talent. I definitely feel inspired to give drawing a try. If I succeed it will be down to this man.
The best tutorial drawing I've seen so far. Thanks
You're a great teacher. Such a wonderful explanation. It's extremely helpful. Thank you! 😊
What a lovely phrase - “we try to enjoy the creative process”
You take the time to show us the reality. Thank you
You are welcome :)
You are so right about the jumping steps and not practicing and learning enough of the basics 1st. Wow your totally talking to me Mr. Chen.
Happy New Year!

:)
Dank u dit is werkelijk heel leerzaam een goede hulp om inzicht te krijgen licht en donker
:)
There is so much information here which, to be honest, is not the way I would be explain it as he does here. And yet the technique in how he explains the composition is not what would come to me naturally; my eyes have been truly opened. At 06:00 he is already showing so much likeness of the subject. He shows *exactly* how it should be done. Being shown techniques like this is worth so, so much in the early days of using charcol ... and I have yet to experience it at any level. This guy is a valuable and learned guy and he's worth a Sub. Thank you for sharing this.

You make it look so easy but surprisingly I took away more than I believed possible. I love your art and you are a talented teacher. Please continue to bring us further on in our endeavours to become as talented as you.
