    In today’s tutorial, we’ll be transforming a single image into a Black and White masterpiece using the innovative TK Magic Mixer and the powerful TK9 Plugin for Photoshop. We’ll apply four different conversion techniques, each on a separate layer, to the same image. This layered approach allows us to explore the depth and versatility of Black and White photography, creating a rich and nuanced final result. Join me as we layer our way into the monochromatic world, one conversion at a time. Please feel free to download the image and PDF notes and give the edit a try.

    Simply brilliant Dave! I never would have thought about using multiple Magic Mixer layers to create the custom B&W. I am amazed how I continue to learn so much from you after all this time.

    Happiness is TK Friday. As I have been experimenting with the Magic Mixer, I of course used the randomized button. Sometimes I liked the sky with one setting and the foreground with another. I had no idea how to use two different settings for the sky and the foreground. You must have read my mind and created this tutorial to solve my problem. Your solution is brilliant. Thanks Dave!!!
    Of course kudos to Tony for creating all the TK software, I am totally dependent on the amazing tools in the TK panels and am starting to love the Magic Mixer. Thanks Tony!

    Your multiple Magic Mixer edits combined with TK9 are effective for teaching how to get the most out of TK9 with Tony's continuous improvements. Thanks, Dave

    Thank you for another educational video Dave. It would be interesting to me to learn your thoughts on the pros and cons of adding a Soft Pop layer after doing a Magic Mixer/Channel Mixer conversion in a future video. I always look forward to Friday!

    I've been dabbling in floral photography, and the 'style' I've been working on is a dark background with brighter blooms. Kind of screams out for a BW conversion. I'm going to fiddle around with the Magic Mixer today to see what I can come up with. Thanks!

    Had to chuckle a bit when I saw today's edit. Got my MM yesterday and had started in on a B&W conversion for a similar type scene I took in Arches park. I will be taking what I learned today and move forward with some improvements on that one and incorporate these techniques into others. Thx!

    I always look forward to TK Friday, but this week you've outdone yourself. Excellent tutorial, and especially relevant as I edit a lot of my photos in black and white. One thing I have been playing with is keeping the Magic Mixer in color and adding a gradient layer for the BnW conversion. Not sure how this might work with multiple Magic Mixers, but I'm keen to experiment and find out.

    Thanks Dave. I have been using Nik's Silver Efex Pro for B&W conversions. Using Magic Mixers with TK masking could give me more control over the conversion. I am going to try it.

      I edit a lot of my BnW photos with Silver Effex, and have found the typical Photoshop BnW conversion methods unsatisfying in comparison. Using the Magic Mixer, however, is yeilding great results, and I anticipate that using multiple instances will make it even more so.

    Hello Dave, thank you for yet another interesting TK Friday video. For me, the key learning was using four Magic Mixer layers to create a b&w image. I must admit it did not occur to me to use the Magic Mixer in this fashion. I love b&w photography and the Magic Mixer is a great tool to experiment with. Cheers!

    Multiple Magic Mixer layers......I love it. I find it interesting that adding a 2nd or 3rd Mixer layer only affects the areas masked in the Mixer layer below it. There must be some math involved there.

    • @TonyKuyper
      @TonyKuyper หลายเดือนก่อน

      Red, Green, and Blue channels are identical for the parts of an image that are black and white. When a new Magic Mixer layer is added on top of another Magic Mixer layer, the black and white parts are still being "mixed" according to the Magic Mixer slider settings, but because all three channels are already identical for these parts, there is no additional change possible based on how these channel mix.

    What a nice surprise and what an wonderful editing tutorial! Thanks Dave. I was glad to see that you used my image again for the Multiple B&W Conversion using the TK Magic Mixer - such a cool and functional tool. Thanks for that Dave. I always thought this image was a though color edit because there was so much contrast and colors in it and was contemplating using the TK Magic Mixer for a B&W conversion, but thankfully you beat me to the punch. One question I have is if only want to adjust the sky using the Color Lum adjustment layer and not the entire image how would you do this? Would you just drag the Color Lum above the Sky Layer and attach it to just the layer below (the Sky Layer) to make that edit? I guess one option would be to do the sky edit first, then use the Color Lum to refine the sky and then put this in its own White Group.

      Mario, I just figured out how to do it thanks to your question and it has opened up a whole new workflow for B&W conversions with the Magic Mixer. I will make a new video about it. (I wouldn't have thought of it, if it wasn't for your question).

      I’m so grateful to you and Tony for the development and tutorials on the Magic Mixer tool. I know I’ve been a bit MIA lately Dave, Laurie had a stoke and we’ve had our hands full. Things are settling down, so I’m starting to get caught up a bit.

    Thanks Dave a great new idea. I am still trying to figure out why when you created the second magic mixer layer with a white mask that it didn't affect the sky from the first magic mixer layer

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's due to the layer masking. Anything already converted to B&W will not be effected by a new Magic Mixer layer, only the areas that were in color before adding the Magic Mixer layer.

    Hi Dave, great video about Magic Mixer. But I have one question left (for now). I don't quite understand why the sky doesn't change in the second, third and fourth layers. Thanks 🤠👍
