Dear sir, I would like to inform you that before the 60's Malaysia then Malaya, the people here living their life, is very close similarities with Hong Kong almost everyway.Even the town building is the same. Rich boss also employed mah cheh (maid). The Chinese people here live their life style with no difference with Hong Kong, especially Cantonese speaking Kuala Lumpur.
Maids were called Amah since 50’s, also being teased ’ tao leng yu = local dace of fish, mostly never ever get married, dressing with black and white as uniforms, salute to their hardworking and self-practiced English speaking, even they couldn’t read and write. Mum was an Amah for a Westerner’s family in Kowloon Tong for a couple of years, back to late 50’s. She was fluent in Japanese speaking too, as she worked at Tokyo Restaurant at the rooftop of Imperial Hotel,TST. (colleagues including actress Sandra Ng Kwun-Yu’s Mum, widely called ‘Ah Liu’) ,Mighty a talented lady.
Try to spend more time at the parks, playing chess games or cherish the past with the folks, someone might come to you and says “ hey! You look familiar, you must be…..” voila! simple as that. Slim chance, but why not have a try, go go go go!
‘Koon Choi Yiu’ =folded coffin shape kites, simply just one foot long of thin thread, and 2/3 of a A4 size paper. The bamboo handles of ice-stick ( suet till gwun))could be made a ship with a twisted rubber band as motor, also made the mini bird cage. * the coffin kites I made, could fly away up to 300-350 meters roughly, as long as no regular kites attacked, to stabilise or balance for folding and two thread holes were important.
Also mantis(tong long), dragonfly ( ching ting), grasshopper ( Cho marn & gwai marn). my brother was once stung by the bees, when he went home with the swollen eyelids, the lady next door was breastfeeding the baby outside her home, then she immediately squeezed some milk from the breast to spread my brother’s hurting areas directly, mighty a generous and helpful lady but a bit embarrassing in front of the neighbours. My grandma would chop a handful of cane sugar (pin tong) for me once. it worked really well too.

I saw the guy was doing something at the hip pocket area that nobody could notice it, as remote-control those floating stuff like sailing around the ‘feet rinsing basin’, very tricky. I have been scratching my head even now how the guy did with the movement from his right hip, I tried to get closer to find out the tricks, but he stared at me just like wanna kill me. Might be about magnetic effects, btw, another tricky game/gambling, during Chiu Chow ‘Yue Lan Festival’ in 1958-60, there was a game at the entrance which attracted a few people, actually there were some of their fellas playing (jo mui) in between ,held in Wong Tai Sin , opposite block 5&6, it’s $1. one go, ( my daily breakfast money was 10 cents), the game was to swing the hanging tied object to hit the emptied can from the stand, if you push and swing the object and hit to drop the can when it comes back, you can win $100., wow! 100 to 1, so attractive, those guys showed us how easy to win 100 bucks, after you lost a few bucks, you couldn’t afford to play any further, as $1. I could eat a lot of food during late 50’s. They hit the can almost 80-90% accurately , but you couldn’t get even closer to the can when it’s your turn, just far from the target with strong swinging to Atlantic or Pacific, I wondered if they would pay you if you really won $100. therefore, that was just lasted for 3 years as unaffordable games , and no longer appeared from the annual so-called ghost festival. It’s better sitting down for enjoying Ms. Siu Nam-Ying’s gorgeous performance,* Chiu Chow Singers didn’t/ don’t need microphones or amplifiers as their voice were/are super powerful.

She was fluent in Japanese speaking too, as she worked at Tokyo Restaurant at the rooftop of Imperial Hotel,TST.
