Just a tip from someone who has sailed longships, the sail is boundup using the sheets, so a looping thread from one end to the other would be more authentic, as it were. The up-right stands are really to hold the oars out if the way when not needed. There's no need for stands to support the furled sail as you can just houst it out of the way - whereas oars can roll around and be a danger underfoot.
Recently subscribed. I can't figure the algorithm. You've been around a bit and this is the first video I've seen of yours. Best of luck with the channel none the less. That is the most rigging of any other builds on yt and it is the b-mb. Sets it right off, looks great. I've seen pictures of sails that were two color and the 'mauve' we'll say was included. Nice. Hoping to find the time to go through your the back catalog of videos. Be well.
It might be cos I’ve uploaded very little in the last few months, and the algorithm is a stickler for regular content, but all my build videos and tutorials, are available in separate playlists if you click on my channel. Watching the videos all the way through really helps to get into the algorithm, as well as liking the video! Thanks for your comment, I hope you are well!
I was trying to decide between this Revell kit or the Emhar Gokstad. I ended up going with the Gokstad, but this is still a very nice kit. Great work here, well done! 🙂
Excellent Video Tam, and I really liked the editing style. You've got to love Revell ship kits... I'm currently dead in the water on my Revell HMS Victory due to many, many, MANY issues, but will eventually move forward when I can rectify them. Outstanding work on this Viking Longship, I absolutely love it and it turned out incredible! Thanks for sharing.
What about calling them awning post's ?....sure they will hold the yard arm, but would you love to be caught in a sudden storm without a roof ? This kit certainly requires a lot of up grading as a lot of parts are not available with this kit....eg.such as the prowl board's.... checkout pictures of the original Gokstad Skibet
there is a lot missing, but also, its a decent kit as a starter for ten, and fairly inexpensive. I think anybody could scratch build most of the missing parts with a little time and patience, even someone like me, with little scratch building experience. I've been tempted to do the kit again and do exactly that if im honest.
Purchased my kit so long ago, that it should be put in a Museum.....the Kit was Originally black plastic.....l used mostly wooden matches for the scratch built part's....and miliputt. Osprey 47 Viking longship's is a good reference to the Prowl board's....the decking and blocks etc And l carved out the Prowl head in 3D with a scalpel blade of balsa. You will read that the Shields were once claimed to be Black and Yellow, but some historians know claim to be Red and White, due to some discolouration a fragment of the shields and according to rag's believed to be a Sail ? I myself didn't change the exterior of the hull, being black !, but gave it a little wear and weathering... Because these old age vessels were normally coated in Tar pitch and Animal fat while being corked in Animal hair etc.
Thank you! I have a miniature and wargaming channel coming soon, it’s called fantasy inc, and whilst there is nothing there right now, there will be some content uploaded there soon!

I'll give the Emhar Gokstad a look, if its reasonably priced, i may do it at a later date!
P.S. l have found that if you use super glue...to hit it with Tamiya Flat Clear gets rid of the glossy appearance

I used to have a Fez, a nice one, all wool about 6 inches(600 mm) tall, no tassel though. Great job on the ship👍
