Ford 5000 Park Brake Upgrade. Easy Reach E-Brake Lever.

  • 1968 Ford 5000 farm tractor. Originally these tractors came equipped with a troublesome park brake lever, designed to hold the tractor from rolling away. This little lever is hard to reach, as the operator has to press the brake pedal, then reach down to the floorboard of the tractor and pull up and twist the brake hold lever.
I show an improvement that can be done to your tractor, which can be done by anyone with some free time and some fabrication skills.

Please don't think I'm knocking your choice. I was mearly making a suggestion. You had the balls to make a channel and I enjoy it.

Boy, do I feel your pain concerning the parking brake! I have a 1975 Ford 5000, diesel with the dual power transmission. Setting the parking brake must always be done to keep the tractor from slowly rolling away, Since the tractor is equipped with the dual power transmission, and after the motor is shut down, the tractor will begin creeping away. Since I don't have your talents for fabricating an extension for the parking brake, I did find a couple of things on e-bay that might be exactly what I need. Thanks for sharing!

I just can't believe that Ford engineers let the tractors go off the assembly line like that! Anything you can do to raise that handle will be a great improvement...best of luck.

By the way, you are 100% correct about the 4000 series having a much longer parking brake lever. My niece had a 4630 Ford tractor which had a parking brake lever that was as high as the top of the gearbox. Ford much have finally received enough complaints about the short lever. @@marktolman6037

This is a great idea. I'm going to do this on my 69 4000. As for the rattle I'll never hear it over the diesel lol.

So far it doesn't bother, can't be heard over the sound of the engine and bush hog running. Thanks

Good job! I would buy one if it could be attached without welding.

If it does rattle, you could use a throttle shaft grommet, they are cheap.

Excellant design, but maybe a round Ford shifter knob instead of the cheesy golf ball?

I used what I had! I'll keep an eye out for a nice shift knob
