I had avoided buying ANY IKEA furniture for my whole life (I’m 37) until 2 years ago and I bought a bed because it was what I could afford. It came in, I opened it, had a panic attack so my roommate built the bed all by herself with me standing over her panicking. She’s the real MVP.
Ive built too many to even list. Two Billy bookshelves with glass doors and attached them to the wall. Built a giant 9 piece cube/drawer custom shelving/ladder unit for storage and cat climbing. Built and rebuilt my ikea bed a good 5 times until I finally got rid of it after many moves. Dressers, furniture for dolls, more bookshelves, and so many other non-ikea furniture pieces. I’m the builder of the house for sure. 🧰

I've built all the furniture in my apartment by myself (some of it from Ikea) because I like to take my time and don't want someone distracting me, but I know bigger pieces can be hard. The hardest by far was the bed and the wardrobe with its sliding doors. You did so well Irene, you go babe 🥰
I’ve put together two nightstands, a dresser, a tv stand, a book shelf and a whole sectional. Everything was okay except for the couch… I had to put it together by myself in my tiny living room and then at the very end found out they forgot to give me a whole bag of stuff to put the armrests on and I was barely able to get replacements since they didn’t make the couch anymore, I got one of the last bags they had 😅 also fun fact it was a whole ass delivery truck (essentially what you see moving companies use) that brought it to my house. And yes they are all still around and doing great.
My partner actually introduced me to that song a glimpse of us. And I think it's super cute but he's always getting on to me about how it's sad song about like you said loving another woman even though this man is with someone he loves. But that song is just so good to me and I don't know why it just clicks in my brain
About two or three years ago I bought a dresser, a nightstand, a vanity, an Alex drawer and a little metal stand thing from Ikea, I put everything together by myself, it took the matter of a weekend. I still have everything that I built and the amount of back pain and hip pain that I had for about 2 weeks after was absolutely insane.
As a Swedish person living in Sweden - half my apartment is IKEA 😅 and I've built it all by myself- shelves, TV stand, wardrobes, extendable kitchen table, chairs etc. And most of it is still here since it's pretty good quality for the price. Also, I'm a freaking wizard with building them if I'm honest 😅 I myself find it easy and quite fun, everything is in the packet and neatly organised instructions, I just always check that all screws, parts etc. are there in correct nubers before beginning. But I do understand the frustration anyways ☺️ You did great Irene!
I did build IKEA furnitures before: At my parent's office I had to build two L-shaped desks and those were annoying because there was a tiered storage on top of the desk. The two drsks are still around. At my place, I had to building a "plain" desk and bed frame when I moved in. The desk is still around but I might get a another one because I feel like a giant in my room since I am at least a Head taller than my furniture. I have already switched out the bed frame for a different one though
Our longest lasting piece of furniture in the house has been a small end table (I believe it's called LACK). My husband bought it as a nightstand at some point in high-school. It has made it to like 3 different houses and has been used for many different purposes. It currently holds a broken record player.
Ive built a few pieces of ikea furniture and I've actually never had a problem! I've built the same end table you have as well as a set of the kallax storage cubes!
I Recently took apart a new Wayfair bed frame made from cheap metal & replaced it with a pretty sturdy bed frame from Ikea. Which took me 6 hours to do alone. I also Frankensteined the Wayfair headboard onto the Ikea frame because the Wayfair one was nicer.
Hi Irene. Good luck on your room makeover. I have built several things from Ikea before with and without help. The directions always seem straight forward, but become confusing and I always end up with at least 2 spare wood doles or screws. I have built 2 different kinds of bookshelves specifically by myself. I never actually bolt them to the walls. Instead I just put all the heavy stuff on the bottom and they never even lean let alone fall over. That could be dangerous if a child tried to climb them, but my apartment is a child free zone anyway. To be clear I don't suggest or condone anyone else doing this, I'm just lazy and don't want to put holes in my apartment walls.
I made Amazon furniture about 2yrs (still do have it) it was a nightmare & the one table with stools came with literally no instructions so I had to guess & brute force it together. It always takes forever to build this kind of furniture & your back is always killing you about an hour in. Good on you for doing this again after the struggle of last time & thanks for sharing with us 😂

Oh when I got my first Apartment a friend of mine and I build a 6 draw side by side dresser from Kmart and one side of 3 Drew’s always overlapped in the other side and I could never figure out why. This was like 9 years ago🤣

I decided to build a huge bunk bed 29 weeks pregnant alone…. Well not alone. With the help of a two year old who loves to help by stealing screws and parts🙃 I thought it would be so cute to take a Timelapse and it took me literally like 8 hours and sweating and cussing 🤣 and possibly crying to my husband and he had to come help in the end. So I feel your pain 🤍
Ikea tip number f*ing one: get an electric screw driver. they sell those there. it's a little box with an electrical screw driver with different replaceable tips. That saves you A LOT of time. Trust me. It's bzzz bzzz bzzz and it's done. You're welcome.
This makes me want to redo MY room and then I realized that I have a whole house.... and that I just have chaos ALL AROUND ME. ugh. Redo-ing a whole house is too much.
I got those Alex drawers that EVERYONE has...and I built it upside down....but yes it's still around and the feet are on top and I can't really undo it. OH WELL.
My bedframe arrived today and it's just sitting in the box and I have no desire to open that damn thing. But this video has given me motivation. Wish me luck. I HATE BUILDING THINGS. I lose everything. Im unsure about each step. The directions always use words or mention tools that I dont understand. :( I was never a kid that played with legos or blocks. I was the boy that wanted to play with chalk and barbies
I find building IKEA furniture to be a love hate/relationship. 97% of it goes totally fine,but there’s always one or two directions that don’t come across clearly enough and it creates a catastrophic disaster that makes me question everything about my choices.
