    Cars from the early 2000s have reached such a high point in refinement and ease of use that I really see no point of buying a brand new car anymore. X-type, C5, A4, E class, etc... a good one with an automatic gearbox is all the car you need really

    Interested in exactly this model and year, for sale elsewhere, so looked for reviews - glad I found this one. Informative and somewhat hilarious .''I need a holiday'' - indeed you did. Hope you got one! Enjoyed the vid, thanks.

    I really enjoyed your review. I am currently on my second Rover 75 Diesel of 2018 and have been wondering how an X-Type might compare. The review gave me a really good feel for the car, they are very smart looking motors. It's also refreshing to see an informative and reserved presentation style, as opposed to someone who might be a bit over the top!

    How reliable is this 2009 and 2010 diesel version? I wanna buy one but they are really rare with low milage over here (belgium) im planning to drive around 80.000km in it will one with 200-220k km be to risky ?

    Pretty nice cars, especially for their price today. Diesel is the most sensible choice if you want low consumption as well, but I don't know how expensive is the maintenance (mainly parts). I would also avoid diesels with DPF (so 2008-2009 models).

    • @craigsketo
      @craigsketo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DPF's were an option, not standard on X-Type 2.0D even in the later facelift models from 2008 onwards, not so sure about the 2.2D though, I know because my 2008 doesn't have a DPF ;-)

    I love the styling and interior but it is a noisy engine that! A Jaguar that sounds like a Transit! Sure I'd get used to it! 😅 They should have updated it to the PSA / Ford unit used in the later Mondeo. Much better more refined unit!

    • @leonwilliams1560
      @leonwilliams1560 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not as reliable though, lot of issues with the PSA units being seen now in the SType. Rougher but very frugal and hard wearing which is why it's popular now on the used market

      @BarrieCrampton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      its a great position, safe and comfortable too

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the closer you are to the steering wheel, the less you can see past the Windscreen A pillars, that can be the difference between Life and Death to an on coming motorcyclist, the nearer you are the more restricted your elbows are an are more vulnerable in a side impact, elbow, arm , collar bone damage, the less you can bend your legs, the more likely you are to sustain ankle and knee damage in a frontal impact, that's if you are lucky and don't have your thigh bones pushed back through your pelvis, the air bag deploys at up to 220 mph, so the nearer you are to that, the more facial and chest damage you get, if you drive with your hands at the 1/4 to 3 position and thumbs through the steering wheel, you will get them broken in a side or 3/4 impact.
      the first thing they tell you on a racing course is do not feed the steering wheel through your hands, do not take your hands of the steering wheelat all or else you have no idea which direction the front wheels are facing.
      the "ideal" driving position was thought up in the days of cross ply tyres and non power steering cars, now instead of needing all your upper body strength to steer, you can do it with your little finger.
      so in closing i sit in a position that i find comfortable, i have very fast reactions and have been driving for 43 years (legally and on tracks a lot longer), the only injuries i have sustained in crashes, both motorbike and car are when i was driving my girlfriends car and i was sat too close to the steering wheel because i didnt want to move her seat. You drive where you want, and i will drive where i want, but in all my years giving people test drives one thing has become blatantly obvious, the closer that someone sits to the steering wheel, the worse the driver they are!!!
      Thanks for watching!!! and you are welcome!!!!!!

      People who have no idea at all what Jaguar is about say stupid things about diesels. If William Lyons (the founder) were still alive he would have been the first to stick a diesel engine in the whole range. Jaguar are getting into Electric in a big way now and that's typical of real Jaguar culture.
      Jaguar have never been solely about large automatic petrol saloons. Read up about them. The same with the fools who taunted about the car being 10%.mondeo. Lots of Jags from its initial golden era are magpie cars, built with engines from other suppliers and suspensions taken from other manufacturers. Bill Lyons was all about doing it on the cheap and created something amazing from the different bits. Jaguar might be marketed in the Premier sector and make premium cars but they are a totally different manufacturer to BMW and Mercedes and people should get over it.
