Just got this one in the mail today. I LOVE it. I can't praise the quality of the game enough. It has absolutely amazing artwork, quality components and a fun game play. They went so far as to make the box fit perfectly with all the pieces. The back of the board game is even printed beautifully with this cool golden coin artwork. Love it!
Wow I just caught this video and boy o' boy am I excited to get this game. What a gem! Thank you so much for introducing it to me. Great job, and keep up the good work!!!
My worry is whether I'll find this "too light" or "too lucky". It does seem like you could do everything right but just get screwed over by drawing bad cards.
Tom, don't move the mike...Thank you both for re-introducing this game. I did not know of it, but it looks beautiful and seems to be fun fare. I look forward to this new aspect of Miami Dice to review older games.
Sometimes its good to have a light game that does not tax the old grey matter, this and Camel Up both very entertaining. (don't know why I mentioned Camel Up).
@clovett65: You can plan ahead, and I actually do. I guess it would be better, though, to state the way you did as "going in with a particular strategy". But I always have a couple of different plans in mind each time those dice are rolled. You have to look at your cards and know which one is best to play in each situation. To me, that's planning ahead.
Me and my girlfriend have been having great fun playing with a variation we thought up, where in a 2 player game you change the rules of the ghost ship and add "Battleship" rules instead... Each take a photo of the board and mark 4 trap spaces of the map (Not treasure spaces) with the edit photo feature on your phone and use the draw tool to mark them on the picture. Now when your opponent lands on one of your trap spaces, bring in the ghost ship and attack them as usual. Only move the ship when a trap is triggered. It gives lots more combat opportunities and removes all of the tedious ghost ship movement while adding so much more fun with the traps and bluffing people into them. We also remove all of the overpowered treasure cards and most curse cards too, just keep the extra "Hold" and all of the highest scoring "Victory Point" treasures thereafter. If playing with the expansion (which I do not own yet) I will probably just put all the highest victory point treasures in to the 2 player games and that way it makes it way more worthwhile to stop rather than just rushing to the finish. Honestly, try this out. You will not be disappointed. I could really do with printing out some board cards and then if laminated you could use a marker or maybe even print it on metal and use magnetic X's to mark the spots... Enjoy ;-)
I've been on the fence about this one for a while but may now pick up a copy of this since there has been one on clearance forever at my FLGS. I laughed out loud when Sam took the box away from you Tom :)
Easy, fun (sometimes) quick game. Play it quite a bit in my gaming groups. In fact, I'm getting a little tired of it, ha! If everyone rolls poorly (I.e. 1s & 2s) the game can drag a bit. Other then that it's one everyone seems to love.
I like this game but I disagree with Sam's comment that you can plan ahead!! You can go in with a strategy but you cannot plan ahead as you wait for the dice roll to decide which card you play. The game has lots of luck but often luck brings fun.

Worst part about this game: question about the rules? open up a giant map! either know the rules by heart or get angry!
what a cute little table compared to the colossus they have nowadays! :D

That camera angle!!!
Love the buy it link.
You guys should really link to your other review and any live game play you have of this game.
I used to play that game online, it's very good and fun!

Does Jamaica work well with 2 players?
@winterplum Yes, it's a nice counterbalance on the cult of the new way of thinking.
@Toxicrafa Where can you play this online?
