I wanted to make this video to show you all the great things you can be thrifting instead of buying brand new! It is a great way to recycle, but also get really unique pieces for your home! Us too by the end of this month!! Thrift stores are going to be our friend for decorating.
I always look for cashmere sweaters. I have 21 of them. I'm spoiled now. No other fabric feels as soft and warm against my skin. I haven't paid more than $6 for any of them
ZenaBumblebee me too. Shopping by touch usually makes them jump out. Love being able to just wear them around the house to keep warm and snugly. And of course on dates.....hahahahah haven't dated in years. But I have to stop buying charcoal grey cashmere....I have three cardigans and others....need some color. I have a cedar chest that hasn't been opened for a few years and I know there's a red one in there...probably vintage. I keep my Harris Tweed collection of vintage coats in there along with matching gloves....some cashmere lined.
That “industrial towel bar” is a grab bar - you screw it into the studs and it’s a safety aid for the disabled and elderly. They can be quite expensive so finding one at the thrift store is great!
I put them in as towel holders because I was tired of the regular towel holders breaking off. Might look a little strange, but it works for me.

Damn that thrift store has good stuff. The ones near me all you find is crap. Lol! I have to really look to get something useful.
It’s 1:48am here in the Philippines and after watching this it makes me want to go to the nearest thirft store. I told you Kristen has this vibe that makes you do what she’s doing. Hehe! It means Kristen is an effective influencer.
My local Salvation Army is not accepting furniture at this time, so that may be why your local thrift store doesn’t have much selection.
I love shopping at thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, Marshalls, Ross etc. Even buying slightly dented or otherwise "damaged" items at regular stores gave me some pretty good discounts in the past.
I just picked up some really beautiful vases and picture frames from my local thrift store. Picture frames are oddly expensive to buy new, so the $5 ones i found got a coat of spray paint and now look fantastic!
The JOY I just felt learning you're from Toronto!!!😭😭😭😭 WHAT!!! Ugh feels so good for a home channel to be from Canada. Watching everyone in the states find all these things at home goods drives me crazy😭😭

I LOVE UR..THRIFT STORE!! The 2 things I saw that I collect.. Cake Stands (especially if they are vintage or Retro) and Native American hand-made baskets!! If u ever wna sell it...LMK!!.. 😋
I went thrift shopping for the first time in months a couple of weeks ago and found so many great things! I scored big time at my favorite Value Village!
I wouldn't pay $12.99 for a mug!
It will also make a huge impact on the environment. We have MORE than enough already. Great video.

Love, love thrifting videos! Our first apartment was all thrift finds. I still thrift today, its the joy of finding treasures. It’s silly but one of my best finds were these heavy lion book ends which I still use.

Our thrift stores are overpriced and many items look like they should be in the dumpster. I've always repurposed most of my finds, but they are so hard to find here. You're fortunate to have great reasonably priced items. First time watching your channel!

In my area, the best thrift store to find household reno things is called Habitat ReStore.

@Kristen McGowan Hi!! Excited for ideas to have friends look for for me while I stay safely at home (darn underlying health issues 🙄😉. FYI, the “industrial looking towel bar” @1:41 is actually a safety grab bar for the bathroom wall inside the bathtub enclosure. My apartment had one when I moved in, and now I’m glad it’s there. ) Wishing you and your loved ones safety, peace, and as much lighthearted laughter as you can get in these incredibly unpredictable times. I like finding baskets too I want to makeover my bedroom in all organic style, wood ,linen,
neutral whites and beige and brown colors ,
i need to start I don't know when it looks so hard to do it .
I have a lot of stuff stuff stuff I need to start before I can realise the idea in my head .
My best findings were some table covers ,some vests, and baskets 1 black and 1 white :)

Thrift stores weren’t accepting large furniture pieces because they need to “quarantine” their soft line items for a period of days, clothing was xx days, dishes and hard surface items were another xx days, the furniture would take up too much space in their storage/quarantine areas. Our thrift stores have just barely started accepting small to mid sized furniture pieces.
Nice! Thrifting is a good way to save money and the environment! I'm mainly donating though since becoming more minimalist. Since the donation centers reopened a few weeks ago here in MTL, they are not accepting any furniture. I guess they are being overloaded and the big pieces take up too much space?

I love Savers. I have gotten so many things from there. I found a bag of 12 brushed nickel cup style drawer pulls for $3! Just ONE of them brand new goes for more than I paid for the whole bag!

I am a cosmetologist and one day I found a $60 makeup brush that had never been used for 50cents I have taught all my 8 kids how to thrift as my mom taught me to look for bargains~
Love to know we’re this thrift store is, we do not have this kind of selection. My thriftshop is heavily picked over and has ridiculous expensive prices. Once in a while I find something or when they have 50% sale.
How you desinfect them?
I would also add lamps (either the base or the shades) and frames !

I am a mug collector but I never had a complete set I just choose randomly...also the baskets collection has really many beautiful peices.

Hi Kristen-I bought a $900+ Lazy Boy chair made in 2018 in mint condition with floral fabric pattern for $30 at Goodwill. If I never find another deal in my life, this was worth it
Not in canada. Even a simple dollar store paper towel holder goes for $6.99 here. And the really good stuff such as that brass faucet they sell to the consignment stores they don't even keep at the thrift store because they're cheap and horrible here. Canadians thrift stores have trash that's outrageously priced. Simple plain wooden picture frames that aren't even big ,the small ones, are $3.99 to $4.99 each.
Value Village in Canada is the absolute worst rip off. They sell Ikea mugs for $1.99 each when you can buy them for $0.99 at IKEA and that's the norm for thrift stores in Toronto.

hello Kristen! i m from Finland ( North Europe) and i love thrifting ans thrift store. i buy almost everything furniture or decore in thriftstore. and here is a very normal, basic and usual life. when my kids was younger i buy all theirs chlothes, toys and etc in thriftstore and save money. all best to you 🙂

I think my best find was a le creuset pot for only 5€ . The same size new is sold at over 200€ and as a student who loves cooking I was soooo happy haha the shop owner thought I was crazy

Are you in Canada? We don't have thrift stores like that, not even in expensive parts like the SF Bay Area. They used to be better but are really pathetic now.
I always check the thrift store first when shopping for pretty much everything. We only have 1 thrift store in the area and it is a 2 hours round trip drive so I only get there once a month. I just keep a list of everything I need to shop for and spend time working through the list while in the store.
The basket would be good at a charging station with some type of separation insert.
Yes baskets are good for baby shower gifts
Big mugs are good for soups

Loved this video but I feel like some of the things were really expensive? Like the cake stand for $14.99 and the mugs for $7.99? Is that US or Canadian prices?
Value Village can have silly prices, you get lucky sometimes too but they are kinda over priced at times. And it's Canadian $'s.
In OZ I find many thrift store prices are way too high. I think the reason for the recent price hikes was that the thrift shops have lost a lot of money during the COVID shutdown & are trying to make up their losses. 🤣🤣👎🙏

Other things to look for: silk flowers & vases. Picture frames, mirrors and original artwork (I've got a wall of original watercolors, all thrifted), organizers for drawers, keys, bills, makeup, etc. I also check for paper goods - wrapping paper, ribbons, cards, even notebooks and binders. And if you do charity knitting or crochet, there's always singles and bags of yarn, knitting needles, etc. Some thrift stores carry batches of fabric and/or sewing patterns, so you can find supplies for quilting, doll making, and home decor. And there are always ass't throw pillows for your couch or chairs. Lots of beautiful things, no longer wanted.
