    That’s a unique combination for the Orion articulated bus TTC had some of them for around 20 years

    Pretty tough to beat the sound of one of these taking off from st Laurent (95) on the transitway just screaming / reverberating off the concrete tune walls under the 417.....I miss these soo much. I wish there was more videos of these.

      They could fly the way they be screaming on the 417 whether it was the 85s or 88s series.

      In a drag race to 100kph which octranspo orion 3/ikaras 286 were faster. Octranspo own spec with red seats or ex ttc with brown leather seats. I alway like the octranspo spec more slighty more horse power quicker off the line also better shift point rearly put out a lot of black smoke

      The powertrains in your country were different: the Ikarus buses on your side of the Atlantic Ocean would have had MAN D2566 engines and Renk 874 or Voith D864 transmissions.

    Those buses might have serious corrosion problems but other than that they were quite well built, and were reliable. The engine and electricals were reliable. Just like 1987 Toyota Camrys were reliable but they rusted out by 1994 unless very carefully treated with rust protection.

    • @WeatherxCalipha
      @WeatherxCalipha ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they had major corrosion problems then they weren't reliable period.

    • @laszlopalkonyay4133
      @laszlopalkonyay4133 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WeatherxCalipha with your logic, a late 1980s Toyota Camry or Corolla was then unreliable. However they were considered the most reliable cars. Without exceptional care a 1988 Camry in Canadian weather, was full of rust by 1995 being only 7 years old.

    • @WeatherxCalipha
      @WeatherxCalipha ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rust is not the same as corrosion; it might be an attribute but rust in itself is at the result of oxidization when exposed to certain elements.
      Corrosion is gradual degradation and destruction which results in structural compromise.
      More specifically; cracks and corrosion developed in the frames and articulated hinges of the Orion-Ikarus III; are you implying that a vehicle that's has essentially had it's foundation compromised is somehow reliable? You don't need to answer that because the TTC's decision to retire almost the entire fleet within 8 years because of these circumstances speaks for itself.

    • @ClassicTVMan1981X
      @ClassicTVMan1981X 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The powertrain was pretty much the only thing that was reliable and hence survived on these buses; I suppose after being scrapped, they saved most of the good parts for other purposes.

      It wasn't better for us here in Portland, OR: at Tri-Met our 1981-82 Crown-Ikarus 286s, which used the Cummins Big Cam and Allison HT-740 (although one of them was converted to a Detroit Diesel inline 6-71TA engine, but still with the HT-740), also had numerous structural issues. Among them were the wheelchair lifts, located at the rearmost door, which were permanently disconnected in 1989 after someone tripped on one. Ours were retired for good in 1998-99.
