We here in Australia that our (RAAF Royal Australian Air Force) also had the Macchi aircraft but they were used for Air Shows for their Aerobatic Flying Displays & they were known as The Roulettes Aerobatic Flying Team from the late (60s & the 70s) & maybe to the (80s) but NOT the (90s) at all of course. The Macchi planes were originally made by an Italian aircraft manufacturer called the Aermacchi which was previously formerly known as Aeronautica Macchi in Italy of course.
Amazing that when these aircraft could at least have replaced the ancient Strikemasters at Ground Training Wing, some clown decided it was all too hard. Apparently they didn't want to change the existing training, but given the very tired state of the old Strikemasters, their hopeless manuals, and lack of spares, replacing them with the Macchi's should have been a no-brainer. This would have at least given the ground trainees something more modern than the totally steam driven Strikemasters with gaps in the instrument panels because they couldn't source replacement parts, and manuals up to date rather than looking like escapees from WW2. Some people in the RNZAF really weren't doing their jobs back then. Hope that has changed. The Strikemasters should have gone to museums, not the Macchi's.
the Aermacchi 339 can be armed, 1 flight hour cost as much as a propeller plane, that's why he is such a success. Argentina was in 1982 able to damage a British frigate, in the middle of an entire British fleet, at that time he had no aiming device or other optoelettronic devices, the new Aermacchi M346 FA was bought by Israel, Poland, Austria and more, Israel controls the aereo space with the M346, which some leftist used to criticise Italy
I had a media flight in probably the mid 90's in one of these. It was the best thing I ever did in a g suit lol. All very low level Invercargill to Qtown, Te Anau, back up high & then strafed the Stewart Island school a few times, some aeros over Foveaux Straight and back to Invers in 55 Min. The Pilot was Brendon someone, I forget. Thanks bud
Incredible how a new incoming government can simply wipe out a fighter wing and all the support and investment made so quickly and without contest. Unfortunately, there will never be a new fighter wing. The investment is just too massive!
Agree, it's been said that Helen had it in her sights from when she was at Uni. So much expertise lost and difficult to get back. Now look at her, UN based and look at how that is working out
New Zealand has the wealth just not the wisdom to sort out its defence forces. We shouldn’t be in the shambles we’re in with dilapidated defence force and assets in 2024. Unless we declare neutrality our military are sitting ducks. It’s not fair for Australia to cover us completely for free.
Got a good look at the Macchi in the mid 90"s, I asked one of the pilots if they were as good as the skyhawk pilots, he laughed and said getting there.
Sorry but that's a blatant lie, the Aermacchi MB 339 is very well known for its excellent capabilities, the countries that are using it speak for themselves. An Argentinian "hero of the skies" attacked a group of ships alone and put a ship out of action, despite massive air defense and hits the plane held out.
@@Ezekiel903 You misunderstood the comment, we were talking about the pilots, not the aircraft, the Macchi pilots were more conservative when it came to flying, where the Skyhawk pilots were more gung-ho.
The CB is a different beast to what is in DCS my friend and whilst no where near the complexity of the F-16 or F-18, it did have a Stores Management System, HUD and HOTAS. Even had a "green screen MFD" that was approx. $90,000 each back in the day :)

Hi, could I use part of this footage inside my next video on my youtube channel? Thanks a lot 😊
Yes
We should of kept the Aermacchis at least. Skyhawks were get old, but macchis were near new

Given the date range, it was highly likely to have been Brendon Clarke, a top guy, formally an Avionics Cpl who remustered to pilot.

The RNZAF gave up their combat aircraft and now they’re a total joke!
New Zealand need to get there air force Jets back 18 hawks trainers 30 F16 😎
Perhaps even F-18 Block III SuperHornets (twin engine for safety).
@@theaviatorexperience4886FA50 would be a good shout. On the cheaper side.

Cool vid👍🇳🇿
So i learned how to fly this on DCS. i dont think "sophisticated" is the correct term for it lol
