One of the universal talking points about what Arsenal needs in the transfer market is a backup at RW for Saka. After watching Martinelli play the final game I think we have that depth in both Martinelli and Jesus. We also have that depth on the left with Trossard and Martinelli and we have the depth at CF/ST with Havertz/Jesus/Nketiah. It doesn't feel as if there are many proven options out there for the front line that would be better without spending 100 million to bring a player in. I hope they bring in Midfield and LB options instead as Partey and Zinchencko's injury history seem to be more of an issue for us than the number of goals we score. Don't get me wrong I'd love a killer up front but the options are limited.
it’s arguable that Mikel should employ ESR on the LW and rotate Martinelli between LW and RW to spell Saka. an attacker is still necessary I think but using ESR out wide is a way to get him more game time and give additional attacking impetus
I would say its time to see how Cozier-Duberry and Nwaneri cope in the first team environment on a consistent basis. Cozier-Duberry would be a great back up to Saka and Nwaneri is a superb option as an impact midfielder choice off the bench.

I don’t want Arsenal spending big money on someone they’re not convinced of just to sign a striker, even if Eddie goes. (And Eddie should leave btw.) And I definitely agree with you on Mika Biereth. Great content as always. I love the idea of a return to the “reserve team” structure. Think it would be great for making sure first team players remain match fit despite not getting regular minutes for the actual first team - thinking of someone like ESR or Vieira. But, when prem teams are disadvantaged by UEFA rules re offering pro contracts to youth players, it could be a great tool for Arsenal to keep players like cozier-dubery and Chido rather than losing them at 16/17 to European clubs

Wanting to change Martinelli is extremely short term thinking in my mind I'm afraid. To have such a top player, which cost us so little, in position that is incredibly rare with such quality would be crazy to try and incrementally improve on compared to the #8 or #9/10 that is the real gap in our consistency compared to m city. For me, all out on the sporting striker and Luis as a mid would be a good window.
I think we won‘t move for any forward before we have a sell. The only position where I see us strengthen before any sell is a midfielder. In my opinion the transfermarket will be really quiet for us until july.
Of course we need a proper striker. It’s like saying Man City didn’t need Haaland because they were already doing well before him. I really don’t think Arteta sees Havertz as a 9. But we did fail to score in five games last season. Whilst in any “normal” era it wouldn’t be a big deal, up against City it’s just too many. If we have Havertz, Trossard and Jesus, we effectively have 2 false 9's and a striker. Havertz can't play every game, and if he were injured we condemn ourselves to playing a false 9 every game. What about Ethan Nwaneri. Where does he come in on the discussion for a winger? Man City introduced some of their academy players last season that made significant contributions. If we can't find the quality, do we stick with the what we've got? Keep Eddie as back-up. Keep ESR. Keep Reiss. All homegrown. All quality. All could potentially spring to the next level if they get a run in the team. The best striker Arsenal can get this summer is one who is already at the club - Martinelli. He will end up as a striker at some point. While Havertz is better on the ball, Martinelli is a rocket like no other and with Jesus too, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to sell Nketiah. Spend the money on a new winger and an outstanding left 8 - preferably a player with as high a technical level as Ødegaard. I'll take Xavi Simons, Dani Olmo and Castello Lukeba and then let's ask Sesko afterwards how much he and Leipzig end up accomplishing while Arsenal clear the table. :)

The difference city have with the doku signing is that they already had a near perfect 11 and a better 11 than us and they still do; so adding a player like him works. Leao's dribbling and blistering pace is what we're missing. The guys over at the Cannon Pod have been talking about him a lot recently, and it very much feels like an Arteta playmaker who has the pace to get back and do the dirty work as well.
It's really not though; Martinelli has blistering pace and we rarely see him use it. Saka maybe not but his acceleration off the mark is second-to-few and we don't see that too often either. I'd like to see us use pace to exploit space more but it's not how we play under Arteta and never has been. Moreover, pace isn't a playmaking trait, nor a typical trait of a playmaker; by all accounts he sounds more akin to a classic striker (not saying he is one) than he does what we've seen Arteta ask of any of our forwards so far. This is the manager who had Aubameyang, one of the fastest and most prolific forwards in the world for a time, who had proven he could do it from out wide... and asked him to predominantly stay central & link play... Until I see him in the team on the regular, I won't believe we're in for anyone remotely like Leao.

I agree with Benge when he said “Midfielder, Winger, Striker” - but I also think LB is a priority. Is Timber a LB? From what I’ve seen he does better centrally, but who knows. He’s been out so long 😔 With Tierney and possibly Zinchenko leaving this summer, I’m doubtful of Kiwior or Tomi living up to what we need from a starting LB to be frank.

Love Leao as a player, he certainly is among the X factors forwards. Only dilemma for me is what does that mean for Martinelli and Trossard’s futures. Martinelli is still only 22 and has shown the capability of scoring 20 goals in a league campaign, meanwhile Trossard has been superb since we signed him. Does bringing in Leao signify the end of them at the club? If Leao’s fit, he realistically should play every game similar to Saka. Don’t think either Nelli or Trossard would ever get significant minutes, barring injury if Leao’s the addition.

Joao Neves should be our main target this transfer window. Any player after that would be gravy.

If we can't find the quality, do we stick with the what we've got? Keep Eddie as back-up. Keep ESR. Keep Reiss. All homegrown. All quality. All could potentially spring to the next level if they get a run in the team. Leao is not better than Martinelli imo.. Tbh i get if we dont get a striker rn due to the market but we have been crying out for one since Jesus' knee injury... The amount of years that we have been '1 or 2' players off of competing.. The best striker Arsenal can get this summer is one who is already at the club - Martinelli. He will end up as a striker at some point. While Havertz is better on the ball, Martinelli is a rocket like no other and with Jesus too, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to sell Nketiah. Spend the money on a new winger and an outstanding left 8 - preferably a player with as high a technical level as Ødegaard. I'll take Xavi Simons, Dani Olmo and Castello Lukeba and then let's ask Sesko afterwards how much he and Leipzig end up accomplishing while Arsenal clear the table. :)

The difference city have with the doku signing is that they already had a near perfect 11 and a better 11 than us and they still do; so adding a player like him works. For us we’re still trying to catch there 11 and we won’t do that with squad players.

Leao's dribbling and blistering pace is what we're missing. The guys over at the Cannon Pod have been talking about him a lot recently, and it very much feels like an Arteta playmaker who has the pace to get back and do the dirty work as well.
It's really not though; Martinelli has blistering pace and we rarely see him use it. Saka maybe not but his acceleration off the mark is second-to-few and we don't see that too often either. I'd like to see us use pace to exploit space more but it's not how we play under Arteta and never has been.
Moreover, pace isn't a playmaking trait, nor a typical trait of a playmaker; by all accounts he sounds more akin to a classic striker (not saying he is one) than he does what we've seen Arteta ask of any of our forwards so far.
This is the manager who had Aubameyang, one of the fastest and most prolific forwards in the world for a time, who had proven he could do it from out wide... and asked him to predominantly stay central & link play...
Until I see him in the team on the regular, I won't believe we're in for anyone remotely like Leao.

Only dilemma for me is what does that mean for Martinelli and Trossard’s futures. Martinelli is still only 22 and has shown the capability of scoring 20 goals in a league campaign, meanwhile Trossard has been superb since we signed him. Does bringing in Leao signify the end of them at the club?
If Leao’s fit, he realistically should play every game similar to Saka. Don’t think either Nelli or Trossard would ever get significant minutes, barring injury if Leao’s the addition.
His record is 15. He has not shown capability of scoring 20 goals in a season.
