    I’ve been following your channel for a couple years and I’m thrilled you are moving to my town. I’ve been in Orlando since 1999 and I am a big thrift store guy! In the past 3-4 years the prices at central Florida goodwills have skyrocketed! Hats and T-Shirts used to be 99 cents. Everything used to be so cheap. I would have a huge cart full and spend maybe 25-30 bucks. Now it’s barely worth stopping by. I highly suggest hitting Altamonte Springs area down 436 there is BrightLight Books which is not a thrift store but has an AMAZING used movies section with RARE stuff. Also Salvation Army, OMG Thrift and Boys and Girls club thrift, all down road 436.

    Did you already move to Florida? If so, how the heck did you get your movie collection there?

    That's always an excellent idea and my past girlfriend and I always fueled up at a local Sunset Grill or Denny's for an excellent breakfast/brunch before heading off to find thrift store treasures. :)

    I hate it when stores keep all the Mario and Pokemon games in the glass case and over price them

    Back in the 20s-30 The Fleischer brothers studios was equal with Disney. Then Snow White came out and Disney took over all animation studios. Bugsville was released on VHS and Laserdisc under its original tittle “Mr. Bug goes to Town” a reference to 1939s “Mr Smith Goes to Washington”

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I'm sorry, Fernando, but as someone like me who has worked in the animation industry and as someone who is an animation history buff, I can assure you that your animation history is a bit faulty since Disney never "took over all animation studios"; not after 'Snow White'; not ever.
      Aside from independent animation studios like Paul Terry's Terrytoons ('Heckle & Jeckle' cartoons, etc.), Walter Lantz Productions ('Woody Woodpecker', 'Chilly Willy', etc.), UPA (United Productions of America known for 'Gerald McBoing-Boing' cartoons as well as 'Mr. Magoo', etc.), most, if not all of the Hollywood studios had in-house animation studios churning out cartoons as extra entertainment shorts before the live-action features were screened and those studios included MGM (with animation directors like Tex Avery), Warner Bros. (Looney Tunes cartoons with directors like Bob Clampett, Bob McKimson, Friz Freleng, and Chuck Jones), Paramount (which subcontracted Fleischer Studios), and then later Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, as well as a few other animation studios emerged with varying degrees of success.
      Those Hollywood animation studios existed well into the 60's and some into the 70's, but they did not disappear due to any Disney takeover, but due to waning demand for animated shorts in movie theatres and due to cost-cutting measures by those various studios as well as due to the rise of television which necessitated that cartoons be made on much tighter, more restrictive budgets or not at all.
      You were right though about Max Fleischer's 'Mr. Bug goes to Town' being a reference to 1939's 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' and unfortunately Fleischer Studios folded not long after its move from New York City to Miami, Florida where its animated features like 'Gulliver's Travels', etc. were not as appealing or anywhere near as profitable as Disney's animated features, so Fleischer Studios went bankrupt and ceased operations in July of 1942.

      @@TorontoJon Im sorry I did not mean to say that Disney was the only studio left. But before Snow White most animation studios were somewhat equal but with Snow White, Walt did take the lead above all.

    I live in St. Augustine and the Goodwill prices here aren't insane like down there. DVD's are 2 for 1.00 or 10 for 3.00. and blurays are 2.00 each. it's crazy how prices vary. but i know it's the Orlando area, they have better stuff.

    What's the rule about HDMI? Are they expensive?

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      HDMI cables are not expensive nor are DVD players nor Blu-ray players these days that have HDMI connections.
      Dave's "No HDMI, no buy" rule means if he finds a VHS/DVD combo player, but it doesn't have an HDMI connection on the back, he won't buy it. It's not about price; it's about not offering superior video quality if no HDMI connections are present. :)

So Dave, I know you moving down there, and I am so not going to get on your ass ever again for not getting something. Seeing as you got some roguish ass GOODWILLS down in your future home state. #EATBEFORETHRIFTING

    I know this is probably a sacrilege to say this... especially on a Disney lover's site (but I DO love Disney as well) But Max Fleischer is a king equal to Disney. I mean he created Betty Boop and Popeye. You will LOVE Bugville!!!!!

    • @RetroRestStop
      @RetroRestStop  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t disagree!

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No way. I love Max Fleischer's Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons from the 30's and 40's as well as the Superman cartoons made at the studio, but he's not equal to Disney in terms of output or quality and he made no live action features nor did he create theme parks or a massive merchandising empire, so he's great, but he's not equal to Disney. You could stand on a busy street corner and ask 10,000 people passing by who Max Fleischer was and not one person would know, but everyone has heard of Walt Disney.
      Plus, Max Fleischer didn't create Popeye since Popeye was created by E.C. Segar (Elzie Crisler Segar) in 1929 as a newspaper comic strip, but Max Fleischer's studio created some wonderful Popeye animated cartoon shorts and some features. :)
