I really like how they made this reveal for this series. Throughout the Fate route, Archer makes very subtle hints about his connection to Shirou, unlike the UBW route which flat-out tells us. We the viewers aren't meant to realize this until his final scene with Shirou where he tells him how to use his magecraft abilities in his fight with Berserker, as if he knew all along. Then this ending comes on after his battle with Berserker, and we all realize the truth in front of us.
He doesn't tell us directly, he just says that it's the heroic spirit Emiya and at that time, no one knew how it worked to become a heroic spirit and we just thought it was the ideals of Shirou taking physical form
Shocking isn't it? I always thought that Archer and Shirou were somehow related...like Archer is his ancestor or something...but that he IS Shirou never even crossed my mind - totally forgot Servants can come from the future as well.
To see it for myself I got the game - I just cleared Unlimited Blade Works. Definitely recommend any fan of the anime to get the visual novel and play.

He's the canon fate/route Shirou if he doesn't change his ways in the near future. Or check Fate/Extra once Aksys releases it in the English Shores for more clues about his past. No he doesn't get killed by anyone in UBW. He disappears since the War is over. He was stabbed by Shiro and then by Gilgamesh but that did not kill him

Archer is Shirou from a timeline similar to the Fate route but he didn’t convince Saber to give up her wish for the grail. Fate Shirou becomes a hero but reunites with saber in Avalon, UBW Shirou becomes a hero but is in a relationship with Rin and learns to value his own life, HF Shirou and Kaleid Shirou give up on becoming a hero and instead focusing on making a single person happy(Sakura/Miyu). None of them became Archer
Well he's not technically a true heroic spirit. Spoilers. Do not read if you do not want to be spoiled. He's a Counter Guardian. He made a contract with Alaya in order to save the lives of a hundred people or so that died. After he was betrayed or died, he then went on to 'work' with Alaya so to speak.
there is only one explanation why Rin accidentally summoned Archer...It's because of the jewel Rin made Shirou to swallow...It has the same reason of how Shirou summoned Saber...Shirou possess the Excalibur in his body that his father(step-father) gave it to him so that he would survive when he saw Shirou was half-dead...
He did not swallow the jewel, Rin used the Jewel to revive him, and left the Jewel Necklace besides him, when he got up he just took it with him. Imagine if he had swallow the thing he would have had diarrhea for eternity

They did fight but Archer was losing then he noticed Gilgamesh was executing his Gate of Babylon then he protected Shirou and told him that if there is someone who could beat Gilgamesh, it is him. in the end, Archer helped them (opening up a path for Rin and shot down Gilgamesh's Head when he entangled Shirou with Enkidu to drag his body out from the black hole stuff because of the Holy Grail doing).
archer is shirou. at least he's a thousand times hotter than the younger version. anyway,i personally thinks that shirou's just a stupid character. so, yeah. although it pains me to admit that archer (my fav servant... damn) is the brainless shirou, it's true. i love rin's character more than shirou. if she knows that shirou will drag her down, she wouldn't revive him at all. (but that is only my wish... in my dream)

You would need to read up on wiki to know. Apparently, Rin did an incomplete summon and that's why he doesn't have all his memories.
