Southern pine beetles killing thousands of trees across Long Island

An invasive insect is forcing thousands of trees to be cut down on Long Island's East End. The southern pine beetle is eating and destroying native pitch pines and other trees. Experts tell CBS2's Jennifer McLogan the only way to stop the bug is to take down infected trees.

The nysdec has known about this problem for years and has done little to nothing to correct it, had they acted 10 years ago when they found out the problem would have been taken care of then, they cut the trees down and leave them in place creating a Hazzard for the firemen if there's ever a fire
