Since everyone is loving this again, just wanted to say for those that dont already know the meaning behind this song, M.I.A made this song to comment on the stereotypes of immigrants (of all kinds, not just “legal” ones) saying the stereotypes, implying that she’s violent (she herself is a refugee) and she just wants to rob people. At least thats what one would think if you just think of the stereotypes and listen to the lyrics, but if you watch the video too, she’s not doing that. She’s working hard at a food truck, making a living for herself. Ironically, completely missing the point, i think she got banned from some government building for this song (i forgot exactly where).
