    confirmed this is more difficult in the car, due to not having clearance to get a puller on the crank dampener. However, i don't believe its pressed on like some other cars I've worked on. Tap it with a hammer and it should come loose. be careful not to damage the pulley with the hammer though. Thanks for the video

    This has got to the easiest timing belt job ever !! Right now I'm in the middle of pt cruiser turbo timing belt....worst car to work on EVER! ! !

      No, just line up the timing marks and install your new belt.

    Can this only be done with the engine down or it can be done with the engine still mounted in the car?

      This is supposed to be done with the engine in the car. The engine was out so it’s just for illustration purposes only

    You don't need a puller for the crank pully it's not a press on. The trick to hold the cam is called cam locks.

      Camlock‘s is not a trick. It’s a tool for a specific task. I think my crescent wrench is more of a trick. 😁
      As far as the crank puller. Not all of them just slide off. And as soon as you run into one you’ll wish you had the Puller. The puller is for demonstration and it’s a good practice to have.

      Mine wouldn't come off last time I did the job and I broke a piece off the pully by using one of the jaw-type pullers. I actually used it anyway and it's now time for another new belt - I'll replace the pully this time but will still use the proper puller if I need to, when removing :)

    That job is a lot more difficult when the engine is in the car , by the way the two bolts for the valve cover are 12 millemeters not 14

      This has to one of the easiest timing belts to do. In or out of the car.

    What type of alternator is this? I need to replace one for my '94 tercel and can't figure out the amps I need or whether it needs a heat shield or not. Thanks!!

      The only advice I can give you is to remove the alternator and take it to an auto parts store and have them match it up. I really don't think you need a heat shield.

    a little advice please, my 95 tercel seems to have a tapperd ID. The balancer only easily installs one way, an the keyway doesn't touch. is it being installed backwards?

      As far as I know it only goes on one way. What is tapered? What ever gets it closer to the engine is the way it goes.

    Im trying to put the belt on but its just barely able to get on and i have the tensioner locked fully back in position. Any ideas?

      Make sure its the correct belt. Don't let the tensioner fool you. It can move just enough to make the belt installation difficult. Also try rocking the cam back and forth to get a little clearance.

      Nicoya i figured it out. The camshaft needed to be rotated like 2 cm to the left and the teeth lined up better on the belt and gave me just enough to get it on. So for your future advice thats another tip. Line up the pulley teeth to maximize full belt length. Thank you for your help.

      Check with your vehicle manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Some can be as short as 50k, while others can be 100k.

      No entiendo la prequnta. Para cambiar el filtro. Aflohase los tornios despasio and deje que salga la gasolina. Y se cambia el filtro...es muy facil.

      It's the top pulley on the alternator belt path. Yes, it should be changed w/ the timing belt replacement.

      how do you know when it is exactly in the 12 o clock position, I say this cause the engine is a little at an angle, so I was trying to get it perfectly in the right position.

      if it's an non interference engine it won't (5e-fe is an non interference engine) depends on which engine you have (most older toyota engines are non interference)

      It's a 1995 Tercel AC,PB,AT 220,000 miles.When it warms up the idol gets rough. I've cleaned the throttle body, new spark plugs and replaced the radiator.Replaced the water temp sensor. The car will shake at times especially when sitting and steering the wheel. The brakes are spongy. Under acceleration it runs perfect.no check engine light on.Thanks for the help. Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm thinking about cleaning the throttle body again. It was extremely dirty.

      did you search for a vacuum leak? spongy brakes sound like the brake booster doesn't get vacuum and this could also declare why the idle is bad since that partially depends on vacuum. also make sure to check and have an air filter installed and maybe check the egr valve (if your engine have one)

      This was a replacement engine...the other one had a oil consumption problem...oil rings stuck.

      That's the same problem in my 1994 Tercel but that was the previous owners fault for not keeping up with the maintenance.
