was just watching Calabash unmasking video over gold ring vers Triple score. the updated version of the Vortex and it failed to unmask the gold ring…false on the nail. the target wasnt buried target at all. thanks for the depth test Iffy!
Welcome. I noticed its opened up more but still will not pass level 3 on my blocks. So a touch better than it was, but not inline with the others in the same (or less $) price range.
Great test, no where to run and hide after this comparison. On a different note, I've seen a lot of tests comparing the triple score to the deus and manticore and vortex etc. Is the triple score now Nokta's flagship model? I thought the legend was. I don't think I've seen anyone do a depth and unmasking comparison between the legend with its new update and the triple score to show who is really King. You or Calabash should make it happen as I think a lot of people would really like to see that.
I am hoping it is firmware, and can be fixed with updates. That is a much better outcome for us all than it being hardware and limitations in what the performance is capable of.
@ Interestingly, the firmware in the Apex seems to be much more refined with more accurate TIDs despite only having one firmware update in four years. Time will tell for the Vortex.
Hey iffy. I did some air tests with the update last night. My test garden is buried in snow now. One thing i noticed was at 5 and 6 sensitivity the ID was more stable and consistent. I wasnt able to see what in ground testing would do with the 5 or 6 sensitivity. Can you try that for us?
The legend nailed the steady vdi .The Ultra also seemed a lot more stable then the Xterra Pro on Vdi... Interesting Test the The Vortex. If Garrett gets things right on he detector It will be a game ganger for them.. Thanks Man.. Happy Holidays
Hi Iffy. Considering a huge amount hunt in park like sites that are filled with aluminum trash, have you considered doing comparisons for nonferrous trash unmasking performance?
Hey Diga, i might setup some control tests with modern trash. I have a couple already with bottle caps and foil. Both are pretty easy so need to make better ones. - Edited for the non ferrous 😆. I’ll see what I can come up with for foil tests with levels of difficulty.
@@IffySignals Thanks!! Also, here's a great detector I've seen circulating online: Golden Mask GM 4 Xtreme Pro it's looking to be a fantastic deep machine
Nooo. Legend and Versa had initial "teething" problems as Mike illustrated months ago. Thanks to Mike corroborating with Nokta and Rutus both machines are on point.
Both great, both offer pro packs with a second coil and headphones, performance is neck and neck. TS is $100 cheaper with a couple more single frequency options. Elite offers a 99 vdi scale. Cant go wrong with either. I like the ML tones but that personal preference.
The Garrett still isn’t ready to be released to Anyone. It’s still full of bugs. Sorry, I was hoping for a better outcome with this new offering from Garrett. No thanks I will pass. The competition has left them years behind!!!!
They definitely should have gotten some outside (from the Garrett team) feedback before release. I knew it would be missing features but I really thought performance would be there with the competition.
Can you do the 800 on some test and comparisons, please. I think I mentioned it in a video a while back. Forgive me if i didn't see response. Merry Xmas!
It sounds as if the Vortex coil is not fully sweeping over the target. Its like it is just clipping the edge of the target as the coil go back N forth... It's wierd you can especially here it as you try to lock inn on the target
@lffySignals Yo thanks for the videos, do you think there will be a new nokta legend model released soon? Id like to get one, but would be bummed if they release a new one shortly after i get it.

@@Diggin4Fun-h3m same here. 👍 in the 80’s my dad was into it and had a bounty hunter 8400. I did not find an interest until I started researching and finding relics. Then i was hooked.
Doubt it. Garrett screwed the pooch right out of the gate. I was a Garrett guy until I saw what the Minelabs can do. If you want Multi frequency then get the Elite. I have an Xterra Pro and am digging targets 20 inches deep with very stable target separation.
@ thanks for your input. The Triple Score looks more attractive price wise and you get so much more than with Elite. My AT pro has been a solid machine ,all this Multi stuff is so confusing
Elite Vs Triple Score are right there with each other. The Triple Score and Legend have the same performance, the Legend has more bells and whistles to adjust. All are performing much better than the Vortex.
Of course there are a myriad of differing soil varients, and because you live in North America there are no Roman or thin section silver Medieval coils buried, which is totally understandable, but for me, 'this is where it's at. i think the vortex is getting way to much attention. i call it a toy detector based on it's limited multi frequency range. i think Garrett released it as a step detector deliberately knowing all its faults, strengths and short comings. the vortex is a prelude to the next detector they bring out which will have improved performance maybe
Say what you will but air test mean nothing I find them useless. I have the vx9 and am very pleased with it. A better test would be 1 mile of beach with each detector same stretch and maybe then you would have a more reliable result!
Thanks, I will watch for your beach video on that. Glad you like your VX9. It will find stuff, but it is currently not keeping up with the competition in the same/less price range. Hopefully that will change.

@@IffySignals i think the vortex is getting to much attention. Garrett basically released it as is. it is their product to fix. it should not be our problem to fix it
Looks to me like a batch of bad coils to me. Garrett needs to do a recall, or ship replacement coils ASAP. Getting working IDs is something every company ought to be able to do, and Garrett has done it in the past, so I don't see any other possibilities at this point. They had to have known the update wasn't going to fix things... Shipping bad software once is a mistake, shipping bad software twice either means the software isn't the issue, or there is some egregious incompetence at play...
Loren, you may be onto something with either a bad batch of coils or just incompatible coils. I have a VX9 that I borrowed from a friend. Before and after the software update, Multi Salt and any single frequency setting had fairly normal target IDs in air testing that lined up pretty closely with the AT series target IDs. That depended on the frequency shift setting which would change them slightly. Changing the frequency shift also changes the iron tone pitch on the one I'm borrowing which is just nuts. So the coils seem to be okay for Multi Salt and single frequency. Using Multi Frequency the target IDs are just bizarre. After the update there is very little change. At least they are consistent and I was able to do a couple of hunts with the VX9 and basically knew what I was about to dig. But watching the target IDs jump from 71 to 76 to 79 swinging over a 4" deep zinc penny with no target IDs displayed between those is kind of crazy. I did see a big improvement in ferrous/non ferrous separation after the update on simple level 1 down the barrel testing in Multi Frequency along with more stable IDs in the high iron mineralization where I detect. The power On/Off and battery stuff seem to be fixed on the one I'm borrowing. No I wouldn't buy one at this point. The Legend, its Score clones and the X-Terra Elite are much better choices right now. Thanks for your great testing Mike!!!
@@jeffmcclendon3835 Something is very fishy. There is no way they would release an update without swinging it over a few coins to see if its fixed the ID. It's possible they have early production coils that work fine and the later production ones that shipped to retailers are bad. There is just no way they would claim its fixed in an update when its not, unless something else is happening. Do you know of anyone out there has a Vortex that doesn't have this issue? If there is somebody out there with a Vortext that doesn't show this issue, then I'd almost guarantee its a bad batch of coils.
@@calabashdiggeradventures Garrett needs to do a press release and inform everybody of the situation, vow to correct it through whatever means necessary, even if that means recalling and shipping entirely new units.
