Tend to agree here, Peter. Couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed by this outing. A premise which felt both astonishingly original (a juror implicated in the crime over which he himself was deliberating - how has this not been done before!?), if not a little contrived, but also somewhat misexecuted. The comparison to Rose is apt, the script read more like a theatre piece than a feature film. I couldn’t help but feel while watching that in the hands of another director - Fincher, for example, circa Gone Girl, which I think was a better film based on an inferior premise - that Juror #2 could have been a masterpiece. As for the ending, a false attempt to elicit SOMETHING, ANYTHING, from the viewer: mistimed, misjudged. As you say, a commendable entry in a fascinating filmography and worthy if it proves Eastwood’s last, but ultimately forgettable.
On my Christmas wish list Peter🎄🙏
