Plain and simple it doesnt scratch the itch that we long for. We were younger when this game come out and it was amazing for the time.

I tried it on Switch and yes, the controls are awful (unless you have the N64 controller for Switch). Alternatively, you can use the Switch Pro controller, change control option in-game from the default to the alternative, and then spend time in Switch system settings remapping buttons and then it is decent.
When it comes to online, it is via Nintendo Switch Online N64 virtual console option which makes it more similar to PlayStation SharePlay than what people normally call online play. Meaning, that you are basically in a screenshare with the other player and they are your virtual P2 using local multiplayer option. The downside of this is that your own customized Switch system settings don't follow you to their game or vice versa so the controller customization don't follow you online. So if you prefer inverted aiming and the person you are playing with doesn't, now you have a conflict.
It really is one of the worse games to try to play on Nintendo Switch Online which is fine for Streets of Rage and other classic games with simpler controls, but for GoldenEye, it is a pain. Also, Nintendo Switch Online voice chat through the Nintendo Switch Online smart-device app (iOS / Android) is atrocious to point you are just better off using the phone calling feature of your phone or some other communication app on your smart-device.
Too bad the Xbox version of the game doesn't support online at all. That would easily become my go-to for this over trying to compromise around Nintendo Switch Online absurdities.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. It's frustrating to be that close to being able to multiplayer goldeneye with friends and it just end up being a pain. Thanks for watching and commenting

I believe both of these versions are being emulated, not direct ports to their respective systems. I have the Xbox version and I have noticed some frame rate issue. They're minor but they're there.
I think the biggest reason why people are disappointed is the fact that an XBLA version was in the works for the 360 like how Perfect Dark was done.

I enjoy it on Switch. But I don’t recommend not to use the C-stick but instead toggle the YXBA-buttons to be the C-buttons when ever you want to strafe.
Btw I’m 37 and I remember the single player very much because I tried hard to get every cheat and aztec and egyptian. With a little help of friends of my brother a finally managed to get every cheat and also the 007 difficulty and the savefile felt like a treasure for me.
By now I played through the switch version of it in Secret Agent and am still hyped (Pro-Controller and JoyCon). I would love to have an original N64 controller but lacking one can’t keep me and my son(13) off of the game.

This exposes the problem in what defines a port from a remaster from a remake. Strip away the nostalgia and a lot of these older games dont hold up to modern standards and are missing a lot of basic features that we take for granted. So say you want to port classic game X to modern systems. Do you stay true to the original and just get it working? Do you attempt to shoehorn in more accessibility and feature improvements like dual stick control and higher framerates? But then as you do more of these things you start to erode the nature of the original game. e.g. Goldeneye level environments are simply not designed for 4k resolution. So then there is the possibility of rebuilding the level from the ground up to support it. But then is it still the same game any more? I dont envy the task. Perhaps the best approach is to keep all these options open as settings for the user.

As I commented on the perfect dark video fast movement being implemented into the Golden eye controls makes this sport Superior over perfect dark XBLA.

Honestly, never played much of the multiplayer for GoldenEye, and in that respect I'd be the exact opposite of you since all my nostalgia is for playing around with the events of the story levels. Oddly enough my only experience with the game Halo 2 was a friend of mine having us do local multiplayer with his little brother and sister, and when I kept drawing direct comparison between the two games (GoldenEye on N64 being the only FPS game I owned at the time) he would get rather offended. We did agree on the idea that a co-op campaign was good in theory, but I never actually did get to try that aspect. I think I might need to check this out since it sounds like it'll hit all of my buttons, thanks for the review, good sir!

It'll def hit all the buttons for you. The single player experience is all there!

Goldeneye on switch should go down as one of the biggest video game fails I can remember..

The leaked remake was fucking awesome! Felt like the original but with brushed up textures and shiz. Controls were pretty good too!

Personally, I’ve been having a blast with this game. I’m playing on Xbox (strange, as my Xbox does not get much use lol). Honestly, I think people need to stop looking for things to complain about. Just be happy we have it at all. I am. The only thing I would complain about (which has nothing to do with the quality of the port itself) is the fact that the game is currently locked to subscription services. This game deserves a physical release.

I stand by it needing online multiplayer for sure but I agree the actual port itself is pretty good. I would love a physical release that would be amazing. If you get time you should look into the cancelled remake they were working on a few years agom it was completely finished but never released and looks really good

I am sorry, but I think you're wrong. We SHOULD be upset about this port. We should be. Its insulting. Imagine if Nintendo tried to force you to play the new Zelda game with the duck hunt gun/controller. No, seriously. Imagine this. Because what they did to us with this Goldeneye port is no different. Clearly they did not care enough to lift a finger. As a consumer of their products I was honestly offended. Because not only is it a trash port, its a trash port of one of the most iconic game of it's era. No excuses. Shame on Nintendo.

    • @neoconnor4395

I personally think it should go down as one of the worst ports in history.

Like, whoever was in charge of this port should lose their job. Thats how serious I am. Imagine ordering a pizza, and you get the pizza, but for what ever reason you cant open the box and start eating the pizza without standing on your head and touching your nose. Its like, why? You're just trying to eat some pizza. With this game its like, you're just trying to play some Goldeneye. And you can't. You'd have to relearn how to play the game, all over again. This is not rocket science. Did the developer of this game want me to remap the buttons in my head, rather than on the game? Apparently. I don't have time for that. We waited 30 YEARS! For this.
      Unforgivable.

Legendary botch. Like, way worse than GTA definitive edition. The GTA remake was playable, as flawed as it was. It got the job done! I got my GTA fix, on the switch. This goldeneye port left me scratching my head, realizing I couldn't even play the damn thing.

It introduces bugs never in the game and never even in ancient versions of n64 emulators….laziest cash grab ever. I get people are happy just to get to play this but come on have some standards.

Certain times it starts stuttering and going slow. It makes no sense at all cuz on n64 it only did that with tons of explosives going off.

I sunk many hours into it because of the campaign because I don't have any friends. As for a perfect dark XBLA, that was a good time because it's the only PVP game I enjoy. It's a shame that the service are rather dead and it's really hard to get a party of Xbox boys to play it anymore. And I have since canceled my Xbox live Gold subscription because I got tired of struggling to find people to play with. Halo PVP Not comparable at all, I always go for the campaign because Halo 2 legendary is the best Halo ever. (I'm not kidding) Everyone should sharpen their Halo skills to beat Halo 2 on Legendary. It's a great time once you get the hang of it. Don't bother with Lasso though.
