Good sound advice, clearly presented. Down to earth in terms of equipment and cost. Nice to see others doing astrophotography who do not have unlimited budgets. Thank you for making this video. Looking forward to the next.
Thanks Bill! Trying to keep it simple, but having quality gear certainly helps. In my mission to get better images Ive done a few upgrades that I'll show in my next video coming soon. However, this channel will always be about using a smartphone to do deep sky astrophotography!
@@DeepSkyDanAstro I have been looking for days for a video like this, everything thus far has basically said 2 things, 1 smartphones are terrible for AP and 2 get a dslr instead of a telescope for starting out. Problem is I just bought my phone (s22 ultra) and while I didn't do so FOR AP its still a big purchase I made and have no intentions of getting a dedicated camera at the moment. I also want telescope over a dslr because I also want to be able to just gaze and not only capture images. That said I am looking into buying my first telescope and would be planning to get 1 of these adapters to do some AP with my phone, what should I get? I was between a 8" and 10" apertura dobsonian because that seems to be THE recommendation for beginner telescopes but would a refractor be better for imaging? Keep in mind I don't ONLY want telescope for imaging. My budget right now is 800-1000 and that has to include EVERYTHING I might need. Thank you so much!
Appreciate the comment! Yeah, you will get a lot of that from others saying dont use a smartphone for AP. I see it all the time on FB groups. I also see people that spend 10k+ and cant do crap but are the first to critisize smartphone images. Everybody has a phone these days and camera sensors have only gotten better and better over the years. With your Galaxy S22 ultra you have a nice camera sensor, however, 30 second exposures are the max even with the DeepSkyCamera app. But thats all i use with my Galaxy S10+ and look at the results Im getting. Of course that has a lot to do with my post processing skills. But dont worry, its easy to learn and there are some free programs available. As far as telescopes go I do have some recommendations for you and your budget. Can you PM me on Instagram, or Facebook? Or even email me? Be glad to help👍🏼
I was going to buy a Celestron NexYZ, for two reasons. The third axis, of course, and that the eyepiece clamp fits 2" as well as 1.25" eyepieces. I chose not to because so many people reviewing complained about the flex issue because it's primarily plastic. I like the way you "fooled it" by adding the washers and changing it's unloaded angle. What I chose was to forego the 2" eyepiece capability and got a metal three axis adapter that got great reviews for being rigid. ....I don't have the name in front of me, and it hasn't arrived yet for paperwork. Anyway, I'm not advanced enough to comment on the app or phone settings yet- I'm still learning. Thanks again for your videos.
The Celestron NexYZ has been great with the mods I did. One thing to note is it doesn't do well with heavy phones, or heavy phone cases. And the use of 2" eyepieces won't be good for smartphone astro anyway because of the size of the exit pupil with them. Best to stick with 1.25" for afocal imaging. I will be doing a video review on the Move Shoot Move 3-axis phone mount as soon as I get it. This one sparked my interest because of its aluminum design and the 3rd axis adjustability. Maybe this is the one you're speaking about?
Just want to say a Massive Thank You. Just got my NexYZ finally after over a year of searching for one at a reasonable price. I didn't know my phone could shoot in RAW until you mentioned DeepSky App. No other app says I can do it. Not even Camera FV-5 or the built in Pro Mode. I've been wanting to mess with my telescope and phone for so so long. Originally just had an old 2MP webcam taped on to viewfinder haha. Worked surprisingly well. Great video and app. Now just have to wait for clear skies !!
Youre welcome! Glad the video helped you😎🤙🏼DeepSkyCamera app is a great tool that I always use. And its only getting better and better. If you plan on doing deep sky like me then RAW is the way to go. Since my last video, its been nothing but clouds so I feel your pain. Good luck and clear skies!
A real rookie. In fact, my first telescope arrives Thursday. A Celestron 150mm 750 with a CG-4 mount. Have never taken a photograph in my life, yet. Learned a lot here and downloaded the recommended software. For dummies such as myself, your presentation was easy to understand. Thanks again. Thumbs up! 👍
We all have to start somewhere! Thanks for watching. Glad the info was helpful. There will be a PRO version coming out and once it does I'll be doing an updated tutorial about it's features and using it. Good luck with the new scope!
The important thing is to have 3 adjustable axis. Thats what is nice about the NexYZ. Other phone holders only have 2 axis. So if youve designed something with 3 then thats great👍
EUREKA! Finally someone who has had the same “flexing” issue with the NexYZ with a heavier phone. I have an iPhone 11 in a case, and even out of the case I get some flexing. I haven’t wanted to mess with the mechanisms too much because I’m worried about doing more harm than good. I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks 😊
It's an unfortunate flaw in the design but my mods have really helped me get solid images. You can also try to use it in landscape mode if all else fails. Good luck!
This hobby has brought so much enjoyment to my life and I really want to help others who want to start. Glad you see my passion! Thank you for the comment, and youre welcome😁Clear skies!
Oh this was good. I had just ordered the same phone mount and the Samsung G23 ultra a few days ago, so this is perfect. I still have to set up the phone, so now I wonder what the max exposure time is.
Hello, thanks for the message! I think you'll be happy with the S23 Ultra. Great camera! That's my next phone. Maybe check how the S23 aligns on the NexYZ before you do the mods that I did. Might not be necessary. I also recommend that you don't use a phone case when using the NexYZ as it will add a bit of weight. As far as exposure time when using the DeepSkyCamera app, I think I heard from the app creator that the exposure time will be increased.
No phone app will ever have the same abilities that a dedicated PC program will have. Nor the same processing power. For the best results, I'll always recommend to use a program like Sequator or Deep Sky Stacker. Free to download and free to use.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro I am the developer of this app and yes you're totally right, pc softwares provides richer features, but this app offers the main one which is stacking, also in terms of performance it is super capable, because today's phones have very powerful computing power cpu's chiped with multithreading ability. I feel happy to provide you a trial version to test just please send me your email.
I developed this app to make astrophotographers sepcially smartphone astrophotogrpahers able to stack their photos using only their phone without the need to pc, mostly when you go outside far away to camp or long trip photography.
Thanks! Hope it was helpful. Its not perfect but it works pretty good once you get used to using it. If I can finally get a clear night to image, I'll be showing how I use mine in part 2 of the series.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro if I buy two light pollution filters what would be your recommendations? I am thinking of buying any two out of the following sets. 1. Uhc narrow band Cls broadband 2. Uhc narrow band O-lll filter 3. Uhc narrow band Uhc broadband
@@abhijitchakraborty1901 that really depends on two things: the DSOs you want to image and the amount of light pollution where you image(bortle scale). For broadband targets Id say the Optolong L-Pro is a great choice and widely used. For emission nebulae, the L-Enhance or L-Extreme is a great choice. The L-Enhance allows a 24nm bandpass through the OIII and H-Beta region, and 10nm for Ha. The L-Extreme is much more strict with a 7nm in Ha and OIII transmission.
Thanks for a great and concise explanation of the Deep Sky Camera app. This will definitely help me with my settings on it. I plan to marry my Honor 20 mobile to my Skywatcher 150M telescope and see what I can capture with it. I know it doesn't have a goto mount but at least it has a motorised R. A. axis to follow the object that I'm going to attempt to capture. Here's hoping for some clear skies over the south coast of Sussex, England.
gonna try this app out this weekend try to catch the shower peak this weekend .. setting I guess are gonna be diffrent and looks like several new things in the app not listed here :)
@@DeepSkyDanAstro iso I guess I want around 1600 I'm out in the country low light and guess I want 20 seconds and burst ?? what 100 photos at peak times .. Im kinda guessing here
I mostly use DSC with my telescope for galaxies and nebula, so as far as setting for trying to catch meteor showers I'm not the one to ask😅 Good luck! It's cloudy here so I will miss it.
I will getting the same adapter as you do for your phone. I have the galaxy a21. I want to take pics and video of the sun. I will be using a solarmax 3 that is doublestacked. We will see how it turns out!
Hi there. Greatest tutorial of this app so far. It has changed a little and we still don't get the pro version, though. Do you know if the app stacks the photos taken or should I do it somewhere else?
Hello! Glad it helped! Yes, the app now has a fresh new UI but still functions the same. I'm currently testing the PRO version and hopefully it will ne released soon. It takes a lot of work to get it to be compatible with many phones and sort out any bugs. The PRO version does have live stacking but it won't be able to stack photos like Deep Sky Stacker or Sequator. I will be making another tutorial about the new UI and some updated features soon.
A very interesting and helpful video. I'm just learning astrophotography, I have modest equipment for now. Thank you for the factual information. Regards Sławek
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful! I'll be making a newer version of this video very soon using a different adapter and an updated version of this app that will be released soon. Don't worry if your equipment is not the best. Just keep practicing and learning with what you have. You might be surprised what you can do with it! Clear skies!
Thank you for your prompt response. Took your advice and contacted the developer. Got a friendly and super fast response and learned that my difficulties were with the phone's operating system. And that they (DSC) were working on resolving this issue. Bye the way, how does one reach you by email?
Great👍🏼 Hopefully he can get it taken care of soon and get you back using the app. You can contact me anytime on Instagram or Facebook. If you don't use those I'll give you my direct email.
Thank you Dan for bringing to my notice the flexibility of using an adapter, phone and telescope in astronomy and astrophotography. My initial use of this will be to show the wonders of the moon to my inquisitive grandchildren and I am considering using my Baader zoom eyepiece for this purpose. Do you see any drawbacks to this as opposed to a fixed focal view eyepiece?
Hello! Thanks for the message! I'm glad to hear plan on sharing astronomy with your grandchildren. The moon is a perfect target to start with. I think the Baader zoom EP will be fine. Just remember to get your phone centered on the eyepiece as accurately as possible. This is why I use Celestron's 3-axis phone mount as its fully adjustable. Have fun and let me know how it goes!
I am so excited now!! I have been ripping my hair out, trying to get decent shots of ANYTHING! My question is this. I also have the Samsung Galaxy S10+, and the NexYZ mount. How do you get the actual camera lenses (of which there are 3, on the back of the phone) lined up with your telescope eye piece? I never know which lens to use! Wide, regular or telephoto? Then I am playing "try to get an image on the screen" by moving the phone all around. It's an exercise in futility! Any tips or suggestions for an old dingbat like me??🤣
Hi Donna! Thanks for watching! Trust me, I understand your frustration. When I use my S10+ in "pro camera" mode or in the "DeepSkyCamera" app, it should always default to the normal camera lens. Thats the middle one and the one you want to use for any deep sky objects. For the best quality, I use "3:4" which gives a smaller view but a 12mp 4032x3024 frame. The easiest way to get your phone lined up it to do some practice in the daytime. Learn how each axis works. Get your phone lined up THEN go outside at night and it should be easy to do. And make sure you line it up on a bright star or planet. Oh, and dont forget to clean your camera lens! My next video I'll be showing how i set mine up and how i image a galaxy so keep an eye out for that. Also, I'll be making a video about how I image Jupiter & Saturn using the "pro video" mode. Any other questions feel free to ask!
I have the same phone and same problem, then tried my old previous phones, an iPhone and a huwawei and both were immediately easier by miles in the house but they have no sims for outdoors. Now I know which is the lens to use I might try some gaffer tape over the u unwanted lenses.
Hello! I'm currently using a Galaxy S10+ for all my smartphone astrophotography. The Galaxy flagship phones are great for astrophotography. Also, Xiaomi and Huawei have very good camera sensors and will produce nice results. My next upgrade will be the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Hello! I always stack the single images in software like Deep Sky Stacker. The more exposure time you stack the better. Then i process the stacked image in software like Adobe Photoshop, which is what I use.
Thank you Arghadip! I use a tracking mount so I dont get any star trails when I do 30 second exposures. But, if you aren't using a tracking mount you definitely will get star trails. If you want to do long exposure astrophotography, then its very important to use the proper mount especially for galaxies like I do.
Thanks Andy! Yes, there are many types of software releted to astrophotography. Each program does something different depending on what kind of object you are processing. Some are free, some are not.
I've got the app, it's in Beta now. On paper it's definitely promising. But as it is today, I don't use it. Having the preview show different properties than the one chosen at the bottom is stupid and confusing. I want to see the affects of my changes in real time! At some point I was even wondering if one of the "exposure time" settings wasn't actually the shutter speed (since a lot of sources online mix up those two). I also don't understand why we can only shoot pictures 100 at a time. What if I want more? What if I want _less?_ Why isn't it one of the settings at the bottom? Right now, I'm using the Pro cam of my smartphone with an intervalometer. But hey, this app giving me the RAW files even though my built-in camera doesn't let me, so at some point I will switch to it, and I still do recommend it.
I use this app every single time I image. One of its best features, in my opinion, is having a live view preview screen and it's own settings from the actual imaging settings. No other app or even stock "Pro mode" has this feature. By setting it to max ISO and 1 second exposure, this allows me to see the faint galaxies I want to image and allows me to line them up easily before I start imaging. Not to mention, the preview screen also allows me to align my phone camera easily with the eyepiece. That's not possible in any other app. It's very simple...preview screen settings on the left side...all imaging settings on the bottom. Very easy to navigate. Not sure why you think you can only choose 100 images. You should check again as the app allows you to shoot ANY amount of images you want. Just touch that setting and type in the amount you'd like to shoot.
After you attach it to the eyepiece, and your phone in in camera mode, use a small flashlight and shine it between the eyepiece and the camera from the top. Youll be able to see on the screen where your camera is looking in relation to the eyepiece lens. Then just adjust it until its where you want it. Turn the light off then fine tune it until its centered perfectly. I do this often and it really helps.
It's possible to get good pictures of Andromeda with only your phone if you can do it in a very dark area. Also, you'll need a phone that can take images in RAW format. JPEG images will just compress the image too much. You can take a single, or many and try to stack them to increase the signal.
@@DeepSkyDanAstroI also wanna ask when I press the button it tells me I have to wait 23 hours?. How can I fix this Edit: I found out how to fix this best app ever bro
Hello and will this ap work with a galaxy s7?? And I just received the Nex xy phone adapter and will be using this on a 12" ACF f10 and 18" f5 thanks for sharing your information
Hey Johnny. Thanks! Yes, the app will work on your S7. Right now its only for android phones. Thats great! Sounds like you have some good setups there. Just remember to practice setup in the daytime so youre ready to go at night. Any other questions feel free to ask.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro I downloaded the app and I noticed that my s7 doesn't have some of the settings you talked about and guess will try it out and see what happens and may have to upgrade my phone cause it's a few years old now and don't see a way to do time exposures with the settings even in pro mode
Do you have a "pro camera" mode? If not, then you probably cant shoot in RAW or do long exposures. You can check in the app. Open it, hit the 3 dots at the top, then hit "info". That will show you the capabilities of your phone using the app. Imaging in "RAW" is best if you want to do stacking and post processing in programs like Photoshop. My S10+ has RAW and up to 30 second shutter speed. The Galaxy A70 has a max shutter of 106 seconds and the A71 has max 100 seconds shutter using the DeepSkyCamera app. Unfortunately not all Galaxy phones have these availabilites. You may need to upgrade to get these kinds of settings.
I have been doing some photography with that device and binoculars, and I find it quite difficult.but I have taken some great pictures of the moon. I was thinking of getting a celstron C90 maksutov. any recommendations?
I get asked this question all the time. There are many factors that will help you decide what telescope is best for you. What are your goals in astronomy/astrophotography? Visual only? Planetary or deep sky astrophotography? Budget? Portability and/or ease of use? Answering these questions will help point you in the right direction. For beginners, I usually say a refractor (biggest aperture your budget will allow) on an EQ mount will get you going and learning the night sky. If you really want to step up, get a mount that has GoTo ability along with tracking. Then you can do both planetary and deep sky long exposure photography. A mak is great is your focus is on planets and the moon.
Hey so for your deep sky images, do you take darks and flats? Or do you only take lights I'm clueless when it comes to imaging of galaxies and nebulas it's confusing thank you
Hello. Good question! I always take dark frames at the end of my imaging session. Only sometimes do I take flat frames because most of the time Im tired after being out all night lol. But it's a good habit to take & use both. They have to be taken properly though or else they wont help. If you are a beginner, my suggestion to you would be to just take as many light frames as possible. The more you stack the better the signal-to-noise ratio will be in the final stacked tiff(less noise more signal). For just about any target i recommend 3 hours or more of light frames. Once you get more advanced and knowledgeable about astrophotography then start adding in calibration frames.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro Thank you so much, but since you normally only take lights and darks, how do you stack them? Cause I thought in DeepSkyStacker you need all Lights, Darks, Flats, and Bias's to stack but in Siril there is a script you can run to stack without Darks/Flats/Bias, etc
In DSS, you can put in any of the calibration frames you like and still be able to stack. No calibration frames is ok too. Siril creates FITS files from the .DNG phone files, and that takes up a ton of space on your PC. I don't like that. Yes, there are scripts that allow stacking without calibration frames. I've used them all. For a beginner, DSS is much easier. Just drop in the files in the correct location, register, then stack.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro Alright this whole stacking/taking calibration frames thing is starting to make sense now, thank you I just took my darks after taking a decent amount of lights and I'm gonna get to stacking now :) Keep up your videos by the way their perfect for people that want to get into astrophotography but only have a cellphone, clear skies
Glad to hear it. Eventually it will become second nature. Good luck! And thanks for watching. Glad you find them useful. I'm planning a lot more. I'll definitely do one about stacking in DSS.
You seem to be doing what I'm looking to get into. Got my hands on a Celestron 8SE today and I'd like to live stream to my TV. My best guess to keep it simple is using my phone with a mount and getting a wifi or Bluetooth adapter to connect to a tablet for control. I'm thinking I might need one of those auto aligners to keep it even more simple. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for stopping by. That Celestron 8SE is a great scope. Ive never live streamed to a TV so I cant say. But you could get a camera to replace your eyepiece and stream to a PC, then run a cable to your TV. I do long exposure imaging on galaxies and this is not possible with that. As far as using wifi to control your mount & scope, that is possible. There are some great apps out there like SkySafari Pro and Stellarium Plus that work great. Im currently using a Celestron Starsense and that does star alignment procedure automatically. Its really a great tool and It makes alignment a breeze. Your goals in astronomy will help you determine the correct direction to go in. I do highly suggest a good EQ mount with the GOTO feature.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro i appreciate the info! Does Starsense use the GPS on your phone to align it? Any experience with controlling it via Bluetooth vs WiFi? I'm coming across a Bluetooth adapter that uses the plug on the controller as well as the Aux and I'm just curious what the need would be if using a wifi adapter as well. Actually heading outside right now for the maiden voyage lol
@@ryansproviero you cant use the wifi dongle to control the Starsense. It has a handcontroller for that. I always input time and date myself but if you want it to be automatic then you will need Celestron's Skysync GPS. That will send location, date, and time to your mount. The wifi dongle is if you want to control your mount via phone or tablet. You will need to download one of the apps to control your mount. Also, you will have to do the alignment manually via the app. The Starsense is what i prefer because i use my phone for imaging and not controlling. Plus its automatic and easier for me. Just remember, the Starsense must be calibrated to your OTA before you can do the alignment. This is a very important step for accuracy. Good luck outside with your new gear! Clear skies!
Hi, hope you are well. Im looking to buy a sky-watcher explorer 200P with the EQ5 and I'm looking at motorization and I'm just wondering if one axis guidance will be fine or do I have to buy the two axis motor set. I'm planning to do astrophotography
That really depends on the target galaxy and the telescope used. I use an SCT with 1400mm focal length(when using a .7x reducer). For bigger galaxies like Andromeda and Triangulum I use an Orion 40mm(with a FOV of 43°) . Recently, I've been imaging a lot of smaller galaxies and using a TeleVue 25mm plossl (with a 50° FOV).
You can absolutely use a mak! Thats how I got started. I used an Orion 150 mak with great results. Many people online said to me "dont use a mak too narrow field of view". That is true for the bigger galaxies such as M31 and nebula like M42. However, you can still image them just won't get the full target. But I say, it really depends on what you want to image. I do galaxies and the Edge 8 that I'm using is by far superior to do that than a mak. Maks are known as "planet killers" and thats what they excel in. My Edge 8 is made for "deep sky" astrophotography will it's features. There are pluses and negatives exclusive to each. If you've watched my videos then you'll see me say "use whatever you have". I still say that. But in the end, your goals will dictate which direction you should go as far as which OTA you should buy.
Thanks for the question! Check out my page. I did a stacking video using Sequator. It's a simple stacking technique if you only have a short amount of data to stack. I'll be doing a more advanced stacking video using Deep Sky Stacker which is for lots of data from many nights of imaging.
Deepsky, Going to try the software deepsky camera. My refractor 4 f15 scope only has right assension drive. Is that going to give me problems? I want to try cloud bands of Jupiter or the moon. The most easiest. Its my first time. Also should I use 2 inch or 1.5 eyepieces. Galaxy S22+ Thanks Deepsky
Hello 👋🏼 I'm not very familiar with RA only tracking mounts so hard to say what's possible with them. DeepSkyCamera is best for stars, nebulae, galaxies, etc. For planetary, you should use pro video mode in your S22. You can adjust the iso and exposure to compensate for bright planets such as Jupiter which will show the gas bands and GRS if the atmosphere and seeing are good. Take a one minute video at the highest FPS setting you have. Then use post processing programs like PIPP, AUTOSTAKKERT, and REGISTAX to get a nice final image. I'm currently putting together a 2 part series of how to video image and process Jupiter. This make help you.
Can I use deep sky camera on a non motorized telescope.....there I think I can't fit 30 sec exposure as it will cause heavy start trail..... please help.
Sure you can. You'll have to use 5 second exposures or so depending on what focal length your telescope is. Maybe even 3 seconds. Start with 3 and then go a little higher each time to see how the stars look. If you are imaging DSOs at these types of exposure times, then you will have to take a lot more images to use in stacking.
Hello! Just like in this video, I'd recommend the Celestron NexYZ. It's pretty durable and has 3-axis adjustability which other adapters don't have. Give it a try!
It can attach to just about any telescope. But you have to be careful about attaching it to short high power eyepieces. The NexYZ needs a bit of surface are so it can grip on to and be tightened. With your telescope you can probably attach it to the focus tube that the eyepiece goes into when you use short eyepieces. But if you have some longer low power eyepieces then you should be able to attach it directly to them and not the tube.
I also have an A71. In mine the max is 60 seconds. Is the app updated? Also, you can check by going to "setting" then click "info". There you see all the phone info, camera settings, sensor model number etc. What does yours say?
Can you elaborate a little more? Target? Image settings? Phone? Raw or JPG? Also, remember the view screen settings are seperate from the actual imaging settings on the bottom of the screen. So you have to set those.
Did you try downloading and using the DSC app? On my A71 model there is no setting for RAW but when I use the DSC app I can take images in RAW format (.dng) I see your model is supported for increased shutter speed.
My apology for asking a basic help question in a Comments section, but I can't find anybody else who may be able to help. I have a conflict in Deep Sky Camera (1.9.4), and my Moto g8 re exposure times. Can you recommend or refer me to an assistance source? I have read through the manual and have reset the app, so far nothing has helped. Thank you for any help.
Hi Bill. No problem. You can always shoot me an email too. Have you tried to delete the app, reset the app cache on your phone, restart, and download again? Lots of times this will resolve any issues. And when I say "app cache" I'm talking about the special reboot menu when you restart your phone and hold a sequence of buttons to bring it up. If something like that doesn't work then you may want to send a bug report to the app creator. He is very responsive and will get back to you quickly. Lots of times, bugs pop up with new updates as he can't possibly test the updates on every phone. But he can look into it if you send the bug report. Hopefully this gives you some direction to go to. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
@@davidapolinar9979 ah OK. The settings for the actual photos you'll take are at the bottom. The settings for the preview screen are at the left side of the screen. What are you trying to take s picture of? You have to adjust the ISO and EXPOSURE depending on your target.

Hi👋🏼Glad to hear it was helpful! Good luck and clear skies!
Great ideas. Just ordered the phone holder.
Awesome! 😎👍🏼Hope it serves you well! Been using mine s ton
found it complicated to use so made a different sytem myself,
can use with 1 hand as thats all i have, already sold a few, keep up the good work
The important thing is to have 3 adjustable axis. Thats what is nice about the NexYZ. Other phone holders only have 2 axis. So if youve designed something with 3 then thats great👍
Cheers Dan, looking forward to using the NexYX and the App soon
Sounds good! Hopefully they serve you well. Any questions feel free to ask😎🤙🏼
Good luck!
I love your enthusiasm! Thank you for all the great info
This hobby has brought so much enjoyment to my life and I really want to help others who want to start. Glad you see my passion! Thank you for the comment, and youre welcome😁Clear skies!
This video was absolutely amazing and informative! This would definitely help me in my astrophotography :)
Hello!
Glad it was helpful! 😊 Good luck!
Great, Great, Great video!!! You absolutely answered my questions!👍🏾
Excellent! Glad it was helpful! After the PRO version comes out I'll be doing an update video on the new features.
Exceptional quality tutorial! Entertaining too! Thank you!
Thank you!😁Glad it was helpful and entertaining too!
You can align and stack astronomical images using your phone by using Eagle Image Stacker which supports most RAW formats
No phone app will ever have the same abilities that a dedicated PC program will have. Nor the same processing power. For the best results, I'll always recommend to use a program like Sequator or Deep Sky Stacker. Free to download and free to use.

I am the developer of this app and yes you're totally right, pc softwares provides richer features, but this app offers the main one which is stacking, also in terms of performance it is super capable, because today's phones have very powerful computing power cpu's chiped with multithreading ability.
I feel happy to provide you a trial version to test just please send me your email.
I developed this app to make astrophotographers sepcially smartphone astrophotogrpahers able to stack their photos using only their phone without the need to pc, mostly when you go outside far away to camp or long trip photography.

@@DeepSkyDanAstro if I buy two light pollution filters what would be your recommendations?
I am thinking of buying any two out of the following sets.
1. Uhc narrow band
Cls broadband
2. Uhc narrow band
O-lll filter
3. Uhc narrow band
Uhc broadband

Any other questions feel free to ask!

which smartphone do you use? and could you suggest which smartphones are the best for this kind of AP?
Hello! I'm currently using a Galaxy S10+ for all my smartphone astrophotography. The Galaxy flagship phones are great for astrophotography. Also, Xiaomi and Huawei have very good camera sensors and will produce nice results. My next upgrade will be the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
do you stack the images after in seperate software or just use the images as is?
Hello! I always stack the single images in software like Deep Sky Stacker. The more exposure time you stack the better. Then i process the stacked image in software like Adobe Photoshop, which is what I use.
Very helpful video.
Will 30 second exposure create star trails ?
Thank you Arghadip! I use a tracking mount so I dont get any star trails when I do 30 second exposures. But, if you aren't using a tracking mount you definitely will get star trails. If you want to do long exposure astrophotography, then its very important to use the proper mount especially for galaxies like I do.

@@Ghosh-Arghadip Look at lucky imaging
This was a great tutorial thanks. I've heard that there is software where you can take video and use this program to create a detailed image?
Great video Dan. I just got my XYZ. Image data storage, is your phone adequate or do you I have additional card?
Thanks! Hope it was helpful. I have 128gb internal storage plus an additional 120gb SD card
Im having problems center8ng my phone to the adaptor, any tips
?
Do you mean centering over the eyepiece?
@@DeepSkyDanAstro Yes, with the adaptor
After you attach it to the eyepiece, and your phone in in camera mode, use a small flashlight and shine it between the eyepiece and the camera from the top. Youll be able to see on the screen where your camera is looking in relation to the eyepiece lens. Then just adjust it until its where you want it. Turn the light off then fine tune it until its centered perfectly. I do this often and it really helps.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro Thank you so much!!! I was about to throw the adaptor to the trash and stick to visual obsering

How do i take picture of galaxies without a telescope just my phone and how ?
It's possible to get good pictures of Andromeda with only your phone if you can do it in a very dark area. Also, you'll need a phone that can take images in RAW format. JPEG images will just compress the image too much. You can take a single, or many and try to stack them to increase the signal.

Hi 👋🏼 Thanks for the question! If your plan is to do astrophotography then definitely go for both axis drives. You'll be glad you did!
What mm eyepiece are you using for galaxy pics
That really depends on the target galaxy and the telescope used. I use an SCT with 1400mm focal length(when using a .7x reducer). For bigger galaxies like Andromeda and Triangulum I use an Orion 40mm(with a FOV of 43°) . Recently, I've been imaging a lot of smaller galaxies and using a TeleVue 25mm plossl (with a 50° FOV).
Why not a Mak? Many think they are better than SCT's. Field too narrow? Coma?
Is your scope motorized with tracking software or do you let it drift and then stack?
Hello 👋🏼 My mounts are GoTo mounts so yes they track the object. That's important for doing 30 second exposures on galaxies like I do.
How to stack images for better views
Thanks for the question! Check out my page. I did a stacking video using Sequator. It's a simple stacking technique if you only have a short amount of data to stack. I'll be doing a more advanced stacking video using Deep Sky Stacker which is for lots of data from many nights of imaging.
Deepsky,
Going to try the software deepsky camera.
My refractor 4 f15 scope only has right assension drive. Is that going to give me problems?
I want to try cloud bands of Jupiter or the moon. The most easiest. Its my first time.
Also should I use 2 inch or 1.5
eyepieces. Galaxy S22+
Thanks Deepsky
I would stick with 1.25" eyepieces.
@@DeepSkyDanAstro thank you
Youre welcome! Good luck👍🏼

Hello! Just like in this video, I'd recommend the Celestron NexYZ. It's pretty durable and has 3-axis adjustability which other adapters don't have. Give it a try!
@@DeepSkyDanAstro is this compatible with the National Geographic 76/700 Telescope

And the pictures ?
Which pictures are you referring to?
Whem i también a photo my image is white , but in the camera is ok
Hello👋🏼 Please explain a bit further. The photo you took is white? But looking at the view screen is normal?
@@DeepSkyDanAstro I don't know how to configure the photo taking, since it comes outcompletely White, the camera image on the screen looks 👍👍👍
@@davidapolinar9979 ah OK. The settings for the actual photos you'll take are at the bottom. The settings for the preview screen are at the left side of the screen. What are you trying to take s picture of? You have to adjust the ISO and EXPOSURE depending on your target.
