They're all amazing. Great video my friend. I couldn't possibly pick a favourite. But as long as we're talking about funk bass you really wanna check out Rodney "Skeet" Curtis. It really doesn't get much funkier than that. As Marcus Miller once said "On a funk-scale from 1 to 10 Rodney is a 12."
I agree ...if i had this vidoe only to veiw..... andyfen0 is rite ..you can base greatness just off of this one video..but there All great in there Own way..dont forget the ones they didnt show....Peace!!!!
Out of these clips Buddy Hankerson is the funkiest, in my opinion. However, Bootsy would usually take the 1st place easy, if it were a more relative clip..not the best ex. of his 'funk' genius.. watch the 'rockschool' snippet, that's pure ball-quaking funk! Where were Louis Johnson and Bernard Edwards btw? ;) Those guys are the gods of groove and 'solidity'. (cont'd)
Bucketheadhead, it is to bad didn't really know about Louis Johnson he should have on this list. I perfer Bootsy and Graham not in that order Marcus would have been 3rd with Louis and Buddy fighting it out. But thanks for the video.
what no prince? Rhonda,Cameo and of course Mark King! All are very very but I find Marcus runs out of ideas (saw him in the mid 90's), he tends to solo in E and use the open G too much, just ends up sounding the same, but I do like him! Check out my vids for same Prince funky bass :O)
Dudes....I am telling you....the funkiest bass player you ever gone see or hear.....Is Aaron Mills from CAMEO.....O...MY....F-ing GOD.........O..yeah....then there is Charlie Wooten from Atlanta.......My funky hurts when this guy funks it up.........Check them out....check them out.....they are 4 stringed funk on steriods.....
Bootsy Collins, but in order to hear him really get groovy, you need to listen to a whole bunch of his stuff. Larry Graham and Buddy Hankerson are also very good groovers, but Marcus really isn't
... I wouldn't even consider Marcus Miller in this run down, but that's just my opinion. I think he's the most overrated bassist on earth, too safe and clean :) There's no nasty filth or excitement to his groove and tone like say, our man Bootsy, Louis 'Thunder Thumbs' Johnson and Bernard. Those guys have the real earthy stuff, which is why their grooves are still fuelling nightclubs today!
This is more of a popularity contest. I love them all.
The creator of the slap and Pluck Mr. Larry Graham!!
Buddy hankerson!!!!!!! BEAST!
I'll say it like this, If I had to have a Bass player on my album I would be in great shape with having any of these legends to choose from....WOW!!!!

I hadn't known about Louis when I made this video, he is now my favourite bassist.
Bootsy just simply plays with a passion & love that is hard to describe. That man is in a deep trance while he's playing.
i love them all :D
@siriusblackmandem That song is called I'd Rather Be With You. The studio version doesn't have the sweet solo but, all the live footage does.
Of course Louis Johnson
All 4 are great, but I might vote to Buddy Hankerson personally.
Without question, Bootsy. That brotha is someplace else on that Space Bass!
The 13th Scroll
buddy Hankerson is the Bomb.
what is the name of the song that plays before the first solo?
Buddy hankerson was the funkyest
"That's the way I pat my baby on da Butt" lol Only Bootsy Collins
@FunkInDaPocket47 funk yea funk yeas brotha

I'll go with Marcus!
I like all of them, but as a matter of personal preference, I choose Hankerson.
Buddy Hankerson is dá answer to dá question.

Hankerson! Bootsy has the most style, though.
Buddy Hankerson!
I'd go collins, he really gets a feel for it.
I agree ...if i had this vidoe only to veiw..... andyfen0 is rite ..you can base greatness just off of this one video..but there All great in there Own way..dont forget the ones they didnt show....Peace!!!!

bootsy gets my vote
This must be the first time I've seen Marcus Miller actually play improv. He always seems to stick so much to pre-composed pieces.
yeah its buddy
bootsy gets my vote aswell
Larry Grahm is good, but WE WANT BOOTSAY!
Buddy
bootsy
This is missing so many names...Stanley Clarke, victor Wooten, doug johns, Abe laboriel. Just to name a few
If you are gonna ask this question, how are you gonna leave LOUIS JOHNSON off of the list???????
Bernard Edwards is the Funkiest !!!!

Shit Hot
bootsy has more charisma and showmanship ...plus he's my fav anyways

It's Marcus for me...You must be out of your mind if you think he's overrated!!
what about Les Claypol....with a name like bucketheadhead, i would think you forgot someone.....lol
Before you mention Claypool Rodney Skeet Curtis will blow Claypool away.
claypool is not on here because clay pool counts as a separate genera
victor wooten is pretty good too...
BUCKETHEAD WINS THE GAME
WTF ?! Where is FLEA ?!
squarepusher

Flea??!!?? there are a lot of better bass players, flea is not as good as people believe
