    Please note the Irish Fougas were designated CM170-2 Super Magister and were fitted with the more powerful Marboré VI F2 engines and not he Morboré II as mentioned in the video.

    I believe the Vampire T55 as supplied to the Air Corps was powered by the Goblin 35 of 3,500 lbf (15.6 kN) and not a Goblin 3 as mentioned in the video.

    As far as I know the Anson XIXs supplied to the Air Corps were fitted with Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah XV engines and not the Cheetah IX as mentioned in the video.

      The Air Corps had 7 (6 flying + 1 grounded technician trainer) 3 survive today, 191 is still at Casement (@2:57 in my video), 198 (the trainer) on long term loan to the National Museum of Ireland and 185 is in a private collection in France

    Thanks for posting. Enjoyed that. Very nostalgic. A national shame Ireland does not have at least 3 defensive jet fighters (eg Saab JAS 39 Gripen). Ireland can now afford such. It seems embarrassing in the extreme and ridiculous that Ireland cannot defend its own airspace against terrorist threats nor drugs traffic by air. Instead a phone call to the RAF to intercept hijacked aircraft in Ireland's air space. Ireland used to have a squadron of armed spitfires during WW2, and in the 1970s had Fouga Magister jets (v tail) that actually could carry ordinance. Before that the vampires jets.

    Why does the Irish Air Corps not have any fighter jets only turboprops? Great video 👍

    Love the Pc 12's. During the war several ME 109's and American P 51 ditched / Hard landed in the republic...what happened to them ?

    So when a unknown fast jet enters Irish airspace do they have to reply on France or U.K. to scramble jet fighters to see what it is ?
    I think France, or U.K. would give a couple of old sepcat jaguar’s to Irish Air Corps in same way as the vampires, and chipmunks.

      The uk...there has long being a standing agreement betwren both countries, regardless of which plotical party is in pwer in either country the the defense of Irish air space is the responsability of the R.A.F.

    can anyone go in there or do you have to be with someone who works in air corps?

      You need to contact the Defence Forces and try to arrange a visit as it (even the museum) is not open to the public

    Is the Alouette 3 still flyable. It looks to be.. I also tought they had a Gazelle in the museum or was it sold with the Dauphins...

    • @planespottingireland
      @planespottingireland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Alouette is kept in airworthy condition, but no air corps pilots type certified to fly it. No there is no Gazelle in the museum, think they were all sold off 2006/2007

    Is the Fouga CM.170 Magister airworthy? Be good to see Irish Aer Corps classic jet flying,
    I also do believe Irish should buy at least 8 or 9 Saab Gripen Es.

    The Government Refuse to provide proper funding for jet aircraft to protect irish airspace making it a glorified Taxi service for politicians its a Disgrace

      The reason they dont (or at least part of the reason ) is there is an agreement between Ireland and the U.K. that states the defence of IRISH air space is the responsibilty of the Royal Air Force and NOT the Irish Air Corps......that agreement has been in place for years but i do agree with you.
