- The large Santa statue moved from Carpinteria in 2003 to its new home in
Nyeland Acres, California, and the fun began.
What started as a toy giveaway for the children in the underserved community of Nyeland Acres, has turned into a festive, fun, and healthy event for the entire family.
Since 2008, Santa to the Sea has been providing many options for everyone in the family to participate in fun events such as a Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon, 5K, 1K fun run, and a Diaper Dash.
On the second Sunday of December, the Half Marathon starts at the large Santa and winds its way through the beautiful seaside town of Oxnard, finishing at the Channel Islands Harbor for a lively finish line filled with spectators to cheer on all the runners. Santa’s Village operates all weekend long where you can shop for unique items and join in the celebration of the season. You can even have a picture taken with Santa. On Saturday, the Diaper Dash happens where babies “race” across the stage to the finish line and celebrate in the festivities.
Sunday holds a full morning of activities. The Half Marathon runners are led by the antique fire truck with local officials on board to celebrate the event. The Quarter Marathon starts at the iconic Pagoda in downtown Oxnard with crowds cheering them on and the Oxnard High School band providing outstanding music.
The 5K and 1K begin and finish at the Channel Islands Harbor to complete the festivities. More than 10,000 spectators are all along the route to cheer on runners.
Costumes are encouraged for all runners and our judges enjoy seeing all the unique and creative ideas that are presented each year.
We ask that each runner bring a toy as part of their entry fee. Following the race, Santa to the Sea is joined by law enforcement officials and other community leaders to distribute toys to the children of Nyeland Acres. For some children, this may be the only toy they receive that year.
Each year Santa to the Sea provides approximately 3,000 toys to underserved children in our community and provides 80 $500 scholarships to Oxnard College for students to achieve their dream of a college education.
Santa to the Sea is a non-profit organization with strong support from generous donors such as Gene Haas Foundation, Port of Hueneme, Driscoll’s, Visit Oxnard, and many others.
Join us for a fun and festive event that gives back to our community. See you at Santa to the Sea next year.
