  • My favorite artist passed away a few days ago. He was a big inspiration for Echo Johnson and a lot of my other characters. Give the guy your time and you'll be paid back in dividends.

My husband introduced me to John Prine in 1983. He would serenade me even though he really couldn't sing, bless his heart. I lost him to cancer in 2004, a week before his 50th birthday. Now I serenade him up in Heaven even though I can't sing either, lol! Much love ❤️

This was his dedication on 10/01/22 ABC News, Muhlenberg county for John Prine memorial Park, with the Rochester Dam, in the background, and the Green River. Also, the mayor named it John Prine month from 2022 to infinity.

Coming up on a year since the best friend I never met left me. Not a day goes by that one of John's songs doesn't run through my mind. As much as I miss him being here, I can't imagine what the world would be like if he had never been here.

I feel the same & hear that so often - the best friend part. I did get to shake his hand once but still he lived as - i didn’t know what to call him growing up so i said he was my “other dad” but it’s like a secret best friend - then to find we all feel that way. It’s like it took his leaving for us to finally all say hey - i hear hus lyrics all day every day & he was my “own best friend”. I miss him so much. ❤️

My brother who passed away in 2010 got me started listening to John Prine and Bob Dylan long before he died so I have been a fan of John Prine for a long time. When I got my second desktop computer I got me a CD burner and I mean it was an old computer. It was obsolete when I got it but it was a Dell and I was so proud espec6since I could burn music. When my brother asked me to burn him some CDs I was so happy because I love music so much. I started asking him to name who he wanted on CD he mentioned a few I knew and he said I want a John Prine and of course I said who is that? He said oh I started listening to him when I was in the army and with him being 11 years older than me I had never heard of John Prine before. So I started downloading the songs and listening to them and I fell in love with his music. I listened to it so much I wore my CD out and made me another one. After my brother died I couldn't listen to it without thinking about my brother and crying. But when I heard he passed away from covid-19 I started listening to his music again on my smart phone and now I can't hear enough of him and everytime I hear his voice it brings back memories of my brother and I laugh now instead of crying. RIP John I know you made it to Heaven and it's everything you wanted in your song about when I die I'm going to Heaven. I love your music and I watched your wife's dedication to your life. She is a beautiful person and I can see why you love her. I believe love goes beyond the grave.

I never knew who John Prine was until I heard of his passing. I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable person when it comes to music. For the last 3 weeks I have been diving headfirst into his music. He has very quickly become my most favorite songwriter. Such simple song structure that has a powerful story to tell. Sad I never got to see him perform.

I can give you my first experience with JP. I was in Austin, Tx, somewhere around 1970 to 1974ish. I was there to see Kris Kristofferson. Can't remember which venue. But, he played two sets with an intermission. During the intermission, they started playing John's first album over the PA. It was like an unworldly experience. Everyone around me were going wth is this? It was like, is that Dylan, no, who is this? It was an unforgettable experience. Short time later, I found the album and Kris had written the notes on it. Never had an intermission like that. hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.

    Hey Carson,
I've been a fan of yours since Chonto, I run a fishing boat and I make it a point to play Chonto for everyone that works on my boat at one point or another every year. My skiff man Johnny and I used to joke about inviting you up here to Cordova to spend some time fishing, or maybe just to meet some of the local characters that are so similar to the ones that you create in your writing. I realize now that those kinds of people are everywhere and you don't need to go so far out of your way.
I am 35 now, maybe about the same age as you, close enough anyway. I first discovered John Prine in my parents record collection early high school years. Sam Stone hit me deep in the feels and inspired me to write my own music. I was fascinated by the way he could deliver the most depressing lyrics to a happy little melody. Your writing has a similar quality that has always drawn me in, though I didn't make the connection until now.
I guess I just wanted to take this opportunity to reach out, I have been checking in with so many friends lately with this pandemic going on. I consider you a friend and you are welcome in my home as long as you don't try to trap any of the ghosts... Heh heh. Loved another evil btw.
Hope you are well, thanks for your art.

It shouldn't matter how he died IMO but I believe he was already experiencing respiratory illness before the outbreak.
As for Dylan, Prine's first album was self titled in 1971 so Dylan precedes him by a decade abouts. Chris Smither and Townes Van Zandt would be a contemporary of his I'd say.
He will cast a long shadow til the mountains crack and the sea runs over.

@ImNotMad ButURwww.yahoo.com/entertainment/john-prine-last-days-beautiful-145628836.html (Check it out). I loved that Fiona told of how she went shopping and bought him gifts because he always bought her nice things. SO, I'm thinking the strain of the trip plus the fact that John's immune system was already compromised due to numerous surgeries plus radiation and chemo perhaps he just didn't have the strength to fight off this ungodly virus that is ravaging throughout the world. I have been listening to his music for almost two weeks now and wow, the man was a genius and he could certainly make your heart bleed. I know all about that because I am a widow 83 years young (most people think I am 60) and I lost the love of my life 18 years ago. Yesterday was my daughter's birthday who passed away with cancer at age 57 so I can relate to many of John's songs and will be listening to them for some time. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my note to you earlier, good luck to you and keep listening to the genius storyteller and keep his memory alive.
