@@Lunk42 I realised a few days ago how Kobayashi may have orchestrated everything. Where Trigger plays a huge role the guitar is there. When Sol Squadron is about, the male chorus. Archange/Sol 1 there's a solo male voice. Drones have a female choir/solo. Arsenal Bird and the named drones have a lot of brass. Give a listen to the various missions and you'll notice these themes are rather prevalent.
What’s terrifying for me is that when Long Caster says, “…no, five SU-30s inbound!”, Wiseman comments back with, “It’s Mister X!” However, he doesn’t say it in his usual “stay focused and maybe have a little fun here and there” tone. Instead, when he remarks that Sol Squadron has officially entered combat airspace, his voice provokes fear and confusion, almost as if he’s saying(to Trigger), “Oh Lord, let’s pray for a miracle, and fight as much as we possibly can”. You can tell he’s terrified by the possibility that Mister X is now in the fight, and even with someone like Trigger on his side, his mind still releases that feeling of being shot down instantly. Good Lord, this game is SO underrated.
Yeah There is a video on TH-cam of the air show on TH-cam and if you listen closely you can hear it, someone has marked the time stamps in that video’s comment section but it’s pretty epic I would provide I link but I can’t remember the name of the video
Firing emls on sol squadron in a nutshell: Sol 5:one shot ko Sol 4:one shot ko Sol 3:one shot ko Sol 2:one shot ko Mister X:just refuses to fucking die after his jet being penetrated by 10 railgun shells
You've gotta imagine what's going through Sol Squadron's heads at this point. They're legends of the sky, and they've heard the rumors of a pilot with Three Strikes on his tail. When they arrive at Farbanti, they find that the Erusean forces have been _routed,_ and so they get to work, blowing enemies out of the sky. And then... a single pilot in that enemy force suddenly shoots down most of their squadron in quick succession. Not only that, but that same pilot is now going toe-to-toe with their leader, a man known as the "King of the Sky." And then they see it. The tail of the craft. Three lines. Three strikes.
I remember playing this mission for the first time and when the Sol Squadron arrived and the music started to kick off, my reflexes and perception instantly increased and I caught myself pulling off more risky maneuvers and managing to keep an eye on the Sol Squadron members while at the same time ensuring I was not about to crash into anything nearby. I remember that it felt good to hear the members beginning to sound worried and then finally shooting them all down.
in my first encounter *I was playing on hard* I made absurdly quick work of all 4 pilots with the HVAAs on the SU-37 and I just decided to try and completely fuck up Mihaly as hard as I could by staying behind him as best as I could. I was so happy that I didn't crash into any buildings
I am so happy, even now months after it's release. In an age of Fallout 76's and Diablo mobile games, Andromeda's and Anthem's, Ace Combat remains one of the few titles that has not been egregiously tainted in the interest of making money, it has not been rushed and brutalized simply to make a quick buck. Rather it's fans are respected, it is clear they have put every bit of love they have into these games, and will continue to do so. I am proud to be an Ace Combat fan.
Agreed indeed. Playing ace combat is all about enthusiasm, passion and thrill. It's a shame that it only has 20 mission, because gameplay and soundtrack like this one is one of the many bomb ac 7 has
Have you read how close not only ac7 came to not being made, but quite possibly the entire franchise being scrapped? I only read it last month but I'm just glad the game did well.

AC7 was pushed out the door when it wasn't ready. What may have had heart at one point no longer exists. Even though it doesn't have micro transactions. It does have content such as the sol skins locked behind payed dlc and the ADF 11, locked behind payed dlc. Even though they are both in the game. @@Art2D2 mostly chasing Sol 1 as he runs away for 10 minutes taking tens of missiles. Seriously, who thought chasing an invincible ace around waiting for the timer for the mission to make him retreat count down fun? It's fun to take on the escorts, but dealing with Mihaly isn't difficult because he never fires at you, and keeps pulling impossible maneuvers, in scripted chases (like Assault Horizon). At least Markov tried to hit you. Dealing with Mihaly is just simply boring. That's also what his character is. Ironic.
I wished I could disable the audio alert of enemy locking and missiles. Only alerts I really need are stall warning, "ground is close omg"-warning, and that sound when you've got the enemy's life on the trigger.

@Faffs with Yuki I had no emotional attachment to Count, so I don't think so. See, you have t build up a relationship with a character before you care about them. When Chopper died, you knew him since mission 1, had interacted with him (unlike 7) and you've seen him in the cutscenes, you've gone through tough times, you were all together through when you were accused of shooting that school. You might have been worried when Nagase was shot down. You grow attached to these guys because they earn, if not through gameplay because you're too lazy to command them, but through story, and interactions. And when Chopper dies, you feel genuinely upset, and kill everyone who killed him immediately after. Taking out your rage, making you feel like a demon has taken control of you, just like in game. So let's recap with count. You meet him in Mission 5 where he takes credit for your kills, reduces himself to what feels like a side character, and has no traits other than fraud. Same thing goes for every other criminal being extremely lazily written instead of actually having character. High roller gambles and that's all he mentions until he dies. Full Band gets access to secret information, and that's all he ever talked about. And hell if I know what tabloids problem is, other than he's a whiny Lil bitch. In Mission 6 Count continues to take credit for your kills, and what we learn is he can survive, and that's it, he's not good at fighting, he can just survive. And that somehow makes him a hotshot. In missions 7, he does nothing and runs away. In Mission 8, he screws you over and runs away. In Mission 9 he Kills full band because he wouldn't pay attention, and the shitty writing doesn't have trigger talking to tell him what's going on, and apparently none of his squadmates care By the way, I know that no protagonists before were talking, (even though trigger should have broke that) but in this game it's especially bad since trigger never defends himself, commands his squadron, or warns people of danger. They wrote themselves into a hole there. Anyway, in Mission 10 count eats a few missiles before not helping with the drone. In Mission 11 Wiseman makes fun of count, and count's a whiny prick like Tabloid. In Mission 12 count barely speaks. And when he's supposed to do something... he doesn't. In Mission 13 he does nothing but trash talk. In 14 he does nothing but complain, and in Mission 15 he kinda cares about Wiseman maybe. And then he gets shot down and dies, according to your version. Now. What the hell did he do to earn my respect, or make me care about him? Same thing for Wiseman, his whole character was 'cool black guys'. Dr Shroeder's story is more interesting than Counts, or anyone else's. I was hoping the princess died... when her head got blown off. Thankfully Tabloid died, although I didn't know that the first time I played the game, since it was mentioned that debris was collapsing or something, no real explanation. Plus the games audio mixing is terrible and the dialogue gets cut off by the music. Yeah, screw this story. It's terrible.
@@TheGamingKiller242 I mean, count's personality shines through if you pay attention to him. He's one of 2 squadron members to help fight with you in mission 6, he gets embarrassed in mission 11 when Huxian asks him if he was one of the rear guard fighters who left in mission 8, in mission 10 he was ordered to stay with McKinzie for defense (doesn't really help that the ai can't do anything most of the time, otherwise he could have actually helped you a bit), and through the LRSSG squad's missions you can see that Wiseman believes Count is capable, and you can tell that Count is putting up an act which is broken whenever Wiseman goes behind Mihaly. Also I think you just had some unresolved anger over characters like Cossette. Edit: Plus I think that Chopper was definitely more impactful than Wiseman or Count but you don't condemn a game for it's story if you don't at least work to understand things better.
An enemy that stalks with bare teeth without firing immediately can suck the breath out of any pilot. Because you don't what he can do in terms of capabilities and the constant fear of whats going to happen next.
To be fair, when fighting against the drones, her plane was still on a pristine condition and she was flying together with her squadron. But later on, her plane got damaged and was forced to retreat with only one fighter to cover (and that rear guard got shot down, too). Props to her that she was able to hold on against an ace with a damaged plane (longer than her rear guard who couldn't even last for 5 seconds).
"Don't let Mr. X run wild." - AWACS Longcaster "He's tearing through our forces"- Huxian "NO NO NO"- Count witnessing the BS that is Sol Squadrons high armor rating after putting 23 missiles into Mr. X and the rest of Sol
Taking down Mister X in his *FINAL FORM* is truly the best dogfighting you can experience in the game. “This aircraft alone isn’t enough to take down the Three Strikes... This plane is my body...... There are pilots like you in every generation... and I have felled every last one of them”
Not as good as the Ace Combat Zero Ace fights, those didn't feel scripted. My first playthrough on AC7 on hard these fights certainly felt like I was going up against this force that was unstoppable, but on the second playthrough, it was just too obvious how much they were pre-scripted for me to get that same level of enjoyment out of them, it just cheapens the experience, making it seem less like I beat them with skill, and more like I beat them by playing to a set script. If they want to truly re-capture that magic I think they need to step away from all these pre-scripted dogfights.
@@ls93780 The way I see it is because in ACZ you have *various* rival Ace squadrons to take down. Whereas in 04 and 7, you had only *one* specific rival ace squadron which explains the scripted elements for both Yellow and Sol. Plus for some, it'd be *really anti-climatic* if come the final dogfight, you suddenly take down the flight lead or the entire squadron almost immediately by way of 4AAMs and that's just much of a downer considering how the narrative not only builds the player's character up but also builds up the rival in question. Scripted fights are either a hit or a miss really.
@@gnw_AstA you're missing the part where yellow squadron wasn't scripted. Sure, they could always outrun or out turn your missiles in Lifeline, but that's a hell of a lot better than eating 20 missiles. Plus I've heard rumors that you can shoot down yellows in Lifeline, but it's nearing impossibility to do so. And you wouldn't have enough time to complete the mission if you did. In Comona, they can eat a few missiles before retreatinf, which is acceptable. But after yoy bag Yellow 4 they're always killable, until you get to the last Yellow on the map then he retreats if you him. Indicating that is yellow 13. And once he shows up in Farbanti, all vets are off, and the fight is completely unscripted. They have a strategy, not a script. They have one man bait you while the rest get behind. And they use QAAMs. I know pretty much every maneuver Mihaly will do in his final fight. Have memorized the triggets, and only Fire when I need to, because wasting missiles is pointless when you know every move he makes.
@@gnw_AstA Instead of relying on scripting, they could make enemy aces pop flares/chaff against missiles that they won't be able to dodge. It would make them seem even more impressive, because they'd be skilled enough to gauge when they can't dodge a missile. It'd be a lot less bizarre and immersion breaking than watching them eat half a dozen missiles without dying, or alternatively having them die in the opening salvo 10 seconds into the fight. At the very least you'd have to force them to expend all their flares/chaff before you could actually hit them with missiles.

@@AlessandroTheCynical True, and looking at it you could cut the Ace Combat name out and the game isnt terrible. Compared to the other ACs is when it falls flat. There's just been too many times a series has tried something new and went under for it.
I will be honest. Assault Horizon was the only Ace Combat that I really got to play. And I like it. @@svenschwingel8632 nah, his character has drastically changed through time, count was a massive cunt but as time went on, throught the loss of Champ, Full band and high roller, then Wiseman, he learnt something, its never about him, its about being a team. It's really how the Mobius vs 13 fight should have been had AI for the series had developed as much back than as it is now. If they remade Ace Combat 04, I would do it just for a revised Farbanti Duel.
@@mariodacostamosteiro7262 Yeah, I feel one should always separate what gameplay and story tries to tell. Yellow were fearsome but the gameplay didn't allow to show off that they were arguably the greatest Squadron ever. And I am very sure AC7 tries to tell that Mihaly is the greatest Ace there has ever been and Trigger being lucky he was way out his prime.
I suck at flying in GTA 5, I always lose the dogfight... But when I jumped in a Lazer again after I played AC7 multiplayer for 4 weeks, I ruled the skies, I was unstoppable until a flying bike with inescapable missiles shot me down lmao
Definitely one of the most unexpected and sudden deaths... this game had quite the body count, which is surprising as past games barely have your allies getting killed... except for that one in 5 :,(
After listening to Archange on repeat. Hearing how this track acts as a precursor to it by sharing so many similar arrangements between them is just spine chilling!
Fun fact, in the mission that brownie gets shot down, if you go to try to help her, Mister X is actually there. You can't lock onto him, but if you look, you can see his jet. You can hit him with your gun too, even if plot armor keeps him from being shot down
I had a realization, in some songs, like Zero, we have Guitar and lyrics, lyrics are there to tell a story, about you. But the guitar is there also, you’re fighting your wingman, you were Allie’s and fought side by side, slaughtering countless. In sol Squadron, the guitar is once again, you. The lyrics is sol squadron, it’s a battle between the lyrics and the guitar. After the opening line, the guitar kicks in. It began with Trigger, and it’ll end with Trigger, as the song did. It started with guitar and ended with guitar, and you could almost always hear the guitar in the background during the entire song. Despite the scare of having Sol there, Trigger didn’t run away, he kept fighting, and that’s why Sol Squadron ends with guitar. Trigger prevailed.
All Mr X Theme including "Sol squadron" and "Archange" are my favorite theme songs from Ace Combat. There are some really cool songs and I love listening to These.

At 2:00, when it really starts to pick up, I see a pilot, tasked with chasing down a civilian-class enemy aircraft which holds a man, wounded, who holds information crucial to winning the war. The pilot has been ordered to shoot it down. As he’s fending off the enemy fighters dispatched to eliminate him and protect the civilian-class aircraft, his communications intercept that aircraft’s transmissions. Through them, he hears a man gravely wounded, panting, heaving, worried he won’t make it. Another man, possibly a squadmate or medic, tries comforting him. “Don’t think about the pain. That’ll only make it worse. Instead, think about your wife, your son. Think about little Emmy, and her third birthday coming up. Think about the joy on her face when daddy returns home for her birthday. Think about that.” At that moment, the pursuing pilot has a realization - There’s another life on the other end of his crosshairs. A simple button press would take that life from this world. The pilot hesitates, knowing now that there’s an innocent man, who didn’t want this war, but got forcibly drafted into it against his will, on the other end of his crosshairs. But with his commanding officer screaming at him, “Take the shot, now! If you don’t, and they escape, millions of innocent lives will be lost! Take the shot!”, the pilot is now conflicted. Take the shot and know the blood of an innocent stains his hands, or refuse, and millions die by his hesitation.
Spoiler alert: This was me in Mission 18, when I could target the C-1 cargo plane. Take the shot and end the war by killing the drone scientist and the innocent princess. Or let them both live, which sets the stage for Missions 20 and 21. (The game forces you to take the 2nd step)

What’s terrifying for me is that when Long Caster says, “…no, five SU-30s inbound!”, Wiseman comments back with, “It’s Mister X!”
However, he doesn’t say it in his usual “stay focused and maybe have a little fun here and there” tone.

Not only that, but that same pilot is now going toe-to-toe with their leader, a man known as the "King of the Sky."
And then they see it. The tail of the craft. Three lines. Three strikes.

In an age of Fallout 76's and Diablo mobile games, Andromeda's and Anthem's, Ace Combat remains one of the few titles that has not been egregiously tainted in the interest of making money, it has not been rushed and brutalized simply to make a quick buck. Sad that Wiseman got put down, but still nothing gets close to the feeling when Chopper died in AC5.
In Mission 9 he Kills full band because he wouldn't pay attention, and the shitty writing doesn't have trigger talking to tell him what's going on, and apparently none of his squadmates care
By the way, I know that no protagonists before were talking, (even though trigger should have broke that) but in this game it's especially bad since trigger never defends himself, commands his squadron, or warns people of danger.
I think the thing for Wiseman's death though was it was so SUDDEN, you were just like.. wait what?!
This game actually has a surprising body count
AC7 didn't do its characters justice, Count was basically the only one you felt like you got to know to any degree.
RAMR chopper died I only played a little
Rip chopper my favourite

Yeah what an ace picking off helpless planes. Really screw Sol 1.

There are pilots like you in every generation... And I have felled every last one of them
@@gnw_AstA you're missing the part where yellow squadron wasn't scripted.

Trigger prevailed.

it's just skill
2:27 Literal Goosebumps everywhere in my body!!
Mihaly: *has plot armor to not die too fast during cutscenes*
Sol squadron itself: *post stall battle*
This is the most excited I've been for a boss fight in a long time
At 2:00, when it really starts to pick up, I see a pilot, tasked with chasing down a civilian-class enemy aircraft which holds a man, wounded, who holds information crucial to winning the war. Think about that.”
At that moment, the pursuing pilot has a realization - There’s another life on the other end of his crosshairs.
Spoiler alert:
This was me in Mission 18, when I could target the C-1 cargo plane.
Take the shot and end the war by killing the drone scientist and the innocent princess.
Or let them both live, which sets the stage for Missions 20 and 21.
(The game forces you to take the 2nd step)
The orchestra in this track gives me goosebumps
I've been looking for this song since the trailer. Finally.

2:00 sounds so much like 2:00 from the "Transfer Orders" track. I was half expecting to hear the choir vocals.
