    I am from the Philippines. My problem with tableau maps is that there is no particular geometry for barangay which is the smallest unit of government (country, region, province, city/municipality, barangay) - is there any way i can create them? thank you in advance and more power.

      Big hello from India !!
      There are few approaches to that (a GIS guy can give you lots of other solution)
      1. Use spatial files (for geographies at granularity not defined in tableau, spatial files are available on various GIS sites, govt portals etc). How to build it from spatial files is explained in one of my videos here :
      th-cam.com/video/zDYEbUWw0TQ/w-d-xo.html
      2. Use an image to convert it to spatial file using the concept of georeferencing (basically putting some points on image that correlate to actual map and then use it as a reference to draw geometries) and then use in tableau. Here is a good read in the same:
      th-cam.com/video/zDYEbUWw0TQ/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps!!

      Hi Asif,
      Thanks ..
      this is a typical binning problem ie you need to create bins . There are 2 ways I can think of :
      1 . There is an option to create bins in tableau (right click over the field) and you can customise its size too
      2. Create a calculated field and use an if-else formula to define bins
      Once bins are created you just need to drag bins over colors
      Hope this helps !

      sorry to have missed your message.. This issue is generally resolved by following :

      navya chinnari colouring based on target value you can create a calculated field (let’s call it map_colour) and set it equal to 1 if if it equal to target value and 0 if it’s not equal. You may change this logic to suit your requirements (ie less than, equal to etc). Now drag this map_colour field to color and set 1 = green and 0= red. That’s all. Will try to create a video for the same sometime soon..

      navya chinnari do you mean a video illustrating these steps ?

    • @DatasciencewithManu

      The map_color calculated field should be something like this:
      ----------
      IF x

    • @DatasciencewithManu
      @DatasciencewithManu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      navya chinnari use quotes - “red”, “green” and also you might have to customise a bit.

    Can I animate the map like year-wise?

    • @DatasciencewithManu
      @DatasciencewithManu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Syed,
      Yes, one can easily do that.. This however requires timeseries data ie year wise data for each state in this case. After that you just need to put the "year" measure/column into the "pages" shelf (which is just above the filters shelf).
      Here it is an example I did in tableau:
      th-cam.com/video/tkPSe4rin7w/w-d-xo.html
      and this one in powerbi (technique is somewhat similar):
      th-cam.com/video/GVxXVCIfX3g/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps.
      Cheers !

      1. Set your workbook locale to English(India)

    • @DatasciencewithManu
      @DatasciencewithManu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda,
      There could be many reasons, few I can think of:
      1. Check your locale settings
      2. In maps edit location amd see if correct country is selected
      3. Typo in location name
      4. Field not part of tableau standard geographical role
      If nothing works you can also try using a spatial file..

      Hi Rahul
      Tableau can go down up to a specific level in maps (districts, county etc). For anything below that (like Taluka) we can do following:
      1. Use the shape file (you can easily get it for India), see my other video on shape file here:
      th-cam.com/video/zDYEbUWw0TQ/w-d-xo.html

      Hi,
      It would depend on what you want to do. If you just need to show a map of Bhopal, setting the column that contains this information to county (equivalent to district ) would suffice. Then bring that column to details and select map is one option to create map.
      If you need to go sub district level then you can use cities (if you have that information in your data) to show them on the map. Alternately use shapefiles if you have complex requirements. You can get shapefiles online (try this for instance - www.diva-gis.org/gdata)
