I picked up a pair of these for a friend to use with a turntable in a room with no convenient place for a traditional amplifier and passive speakers. These fit the bill nicely. They are versatile with the range of inputs on offer and they sound very pleasing with enough oomph to fill a small to medium sized room; they obviously can't fully compete with more expensive HiFi speakers, but for their size and price they're great value, my friend is well chuffed and is revisiting her record collection. Meanwhile the grandchildren can pair their smartphones over Bluetooth and play their music. Nice product for the money.

There's one thing about these that are incredible for the price....output for a sub! It's very hard to find that in speakers in this range, and I've shopped the sht out of Amazon, etc...this is one of the few sets around $100 that have that feature. SO, if you have an old sub, like a Sony powered multimedia sub(etc) from the 90's/00's,10's.... that still hits hard like mine, you'll be wanting something like this, it takes a lot of load off off the built in amp to push those lows and increases the dynamic range my an amazing amount. Btw those old subs are cheap af, and can be picked up from yard/garage sales for next to nothing now. It's almost like doubling the power output, and clarity when your sub can take the low end load off the relatively small book shelf sized cones, allowing them to focus more on mid to highs. Just be careful matching connectors, be sure you're not losing signal, or getting a dirty one due to cheap siring, like the stuff that comes with them at at times(not these in particular).

when you do have a sub, how do you reduce the bass on the 1280's so they don't have to work as hard?

Just got them ordered and they’re coming in this evening. Very excited. Got a new tv a while back and the built in speakers are terrible. The optical input is a win for me. Hope they sound as good as I’m hoping. Hard to tell until you listen to them in person. I’m a bit of an audiophile but am a fan of these budget brands. College keeps you broke.

Can you use these as simple left and right speakers with no Bluetooth no active option without the need to be plugged in ? Also the size of them on amazon seems a complete lie "17in x 11.8in x 7.2in"

The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...

If they would have HDMI ARC it would be perfect to extend your TV sound ( without using 2 remote controls ) at a reasonable price, much better sound than similar priced soundbars and also nicer look! :)
