INTENSIFYING BLACK PEPPER PRODUCTIVITY

This is a novel technique for intensified pepper production by using vertical column concept. The technique ensures enhanced and sustainable supply of fresh pepper in a cost effective and eco-friendly manner. This is developed at ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Kerala.

There are several advanced technology to grow Piper Nigum (black pepper).But in market we can get only lateral shoots. Is it possible to graft or grow runners and top shoots from lateral shoots?Please advise. Thanks in Advance!

The problem here is the wire mesh will collapse. So need to use galvanized or steel wire mesh.
Else heavy guage wire mesh will workout.

Best option is to grow trees which provides carbon and nitrogen to soil and when trees are at certain height plant pepper near their roots so pepper grows without fertilisers and receives its nutrients from trees and then not to worry about mesh etc
Although its a long procedure but worth doing it as pepper’ market price is good

Alongside that grow Australian Teak plants they will take 5 to 6 years to grow such height so the pepper plants can be grown near their roots Australian teak absorbs nitrogen from atmosphere and deposit to soil and both plants grow together at 70 ft height and its a very good future investment for almost next 20 to 30 years just harvest the pepper and wont require much fertilisers and teak tree nourishes it properly minimal irrigation required
